The Raven in HD by The Alan Parsons Project
From Wikipedia:
Tales of Mystery and Imagination is the debut album by the progressive rock group The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1976. The album's avant-garde soundscapes kept it from being a blockbuster, but the interesting lyrical and musical themes - retellings of horror stories and poetry by Edgar Allan Poe - attracted a small audience. The title of the album is taken from a popular title for Poe's macabre tales of the same name, Tales of Mystery & Imagination, first published in 1908 and many times since under this name. Critical reaction to the album was often mixed; for example, Rolling Stone's Billy Altman concluded that it mostly failed at reproducing Poe's tension and macabre fear, ending by claiming that "devotees of Gothic literature will have to wait for someone with more of the macabre in their blood for a truer musical reading of Poe's often terrifying works".
This album was released in the UK originally with a different name. Simply called The Alan Parsons Project, it was successful enough to achieve gold status but later that year the same album was released under the name of Tales of Mystery and Imagination.
Lyrics:
The clock struck midnight
And through my sleeping
I heard a tapping at my door
I looked but nothing lay in the darkness
And so I turned inside once more
To my amazement
There stood a raven
Whose shadow hung above my door
Then through the silence
It spoke that one word
that I shall hear forever more
Nevermore
Thus quoth the raven, nevermore
And still the raven remains in my room
No matter how much I implore
No words can soothe him
No prayer remove him
And I must hear for evermore
Quoth the raven, nevermore
Thus quoth the raven
Nevermore

During my military days, a fellow grunt and smoking partner (RIP) ended up at a party of older people (still don't know why we were there) but the owner and his wife a history professor, as it turned out) of the party put this album on, he rolled a couple, passed it around and we all just laid back and listened, no one spoke, now close to the end of 60, I have followed The Alan Parsons Project ever since, thank you for those memories Alan:)

And still the raven remains in my room No matter how much I implore No words can soothe him No prayer remove him And I must hear for evermore! MASTERPIECE‼️ APP 🙌🏻
The Raven was a ground breaker in it’s day being one of the first rock songs to feature the newly developed (by EMI) of a device called a vocoder, a voice changer used to distort the vocals to great effect in this track. Love Love Love The Alan Parsons Project!

AP wrote this song as a tribute TO POE
This album was a big hit with my generation. ☺️
Yep, we were 14 year old stoners and rockers when Alan Parsons was introduced to us. Loved all his work including the next album "I Robot" ..For some reason I also think of Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" around this same period in my life. Both high influential albums.
Tales of Mystery and Imagination is a masterpiece start to finish -- especially the proper version with the Orwell voiceover.

Poet's influence on music, gothic literature, modern twists in drama, prove he was a master of not only the macabre but the weight of irony on life
When I first fell in love with The Alan Parsons Project, this was the song. I was very young then. I am old now and have loved so many more since. Thank you, Mr. (or Sir), Alan Parsons.

as great as his stories may be, and i wouldn't be here obviously if i didnt enjoy them, he also married his 13 year old cousin at the age of 27....so...calling him brilliant i feel is a bit of a stretch

I miss the experience of going to the record store the day a new album from my favorite bands was released. I loved that smell of fresh vinyl that wafted from the cardboard sleeve when I carefully cut the shrink wrap. Albums often came with extra goodies, like booklets and posters. I had a Stones album that had a real working zipper on the front! Our larger record stores had free concerts sometimes to promote new bands and albums. But I love music of all eras. There are many excellent modern day artists I love, such as Michael Kiwanuka, Calexico, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and even some Japanese pop music my son turned me on to. I was a teenager in the 1970s, and there was good music, but it's not my favorite era. The 80s music was so different and new (I'm still a punk fan).
Tales of Mystery and Imagination = Best album the Project ever did!
WIKIPEDIA: It was one of the first rock songs to use a Vocoder, developed by EMS, to distort vocals (see KZread video EMS Vocoder). It is also one of the few songs by the band featuring the vocals of Alan Parsons, who sings the first verse through a Digital EMI Vocoder (liner notes). Actor Leonard Whiting performs the lead vocals for the remainder of the song, with Eric Woolfson and a choir as backing vocals. /// For Techies (see Wiki Vocoder). Military / Industrial apps began in the late 1930s.
I ran into a KID, a CHILD this evening as I stepped out for air, and he (Michael) was seriously enamoured of Edgar The Late Alan, musically inclined, recharge and reset, stop and rewind -- Alan, thank you for playing! Thank you Michael for a ride, more conversation than your friends could tolerate and egoboo. (Local Alan, POTUS, not to be confused with Alan Parsons, APP, musical genius.)
I am LOVING the guitar overdubs and fills that Ian Bairnson and Alan went back and added in for the album's 20TH Anniversary Edition, IIRC.

This song has been around for awhile. But i was introduced to it by my 6th grade English teacher when we were studying Edgar Allen poe. And that was back in 2011. To this day it's still one of my personal favorite poems by poe. And one hell of a song by APP.

Okay, I have to say this is one of the best music videos I've seen on KZread. Usually these user created "music videos" are some crappy, low pixelated google images slapped together and put with a song, but this is superb and far from that. The seamless transition @ 2:50 from the sinister looking raven to the moon behind it was fantastic. Well done.
Happy birthday Mr Poe wherever you are. Fittingly we had a blood moon last night. I hope you were able to toast it in your celestial abode with a glass of your favorite cognac

pretty amazing for 1976
Great Halloween track!
Took me forever to remember this as a kid..bamm.😃
I was reading a book about secret mysteries schools, and I came across with something that reminded me this song, it is that in the ancient Roman secret relligion Mithraism had six initiatory grades, the first one is called the Raven and its symbol is the caduceus.
This is the beautiful 1987 version. The original from 1976 doesn't have electric guitars at 2:27.
Думаю альбом " Tales Of Mystery and Imagination " (1976г.) можно смело назвать вершиной творчества Алана Парсонса. Созданный по мотивам произведений американского писателя и поэта Эдгара По, он стоит в одном ряду с творениями Genesis,Yes,Gentle Giant и др.

I agree with Billy Altman's opinion quoted in the description: this album's atmosphere has very little to do with Poe (although "The Fall of the House of Usher" comes fairly close to the story's atmosphere, because in it Poe also presents the past bright side of the family and the manor, only to enhance the terror of the later decadence and madness). However, this doesn't prevent "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" from being an awesome work and a masterpiece of prog rock that I still listen to with delight almost 40 years later. Plus, it made me curious to read Poe, which I hadn't done until then - and then I devoured his works, fascinated by a man who actually did what the "Enterprise" claimed to do: he explored a dark side of the human mind where no man (or woman) had been before, all while using the language and the art of narrative like an absolute genius, The Project wasn't really an innovative group (even though Alan as a sound engineer certainly was), but it did its job so well that it's always a pleasure listening to them.

I red Poe more than once. As a rock group It fulfills the atmosphere of the tales. If its not enought go to the books
Edgar Allen Poe .. passed away drunk and penniless in the streets of Baltimore never knowing how famous he was
We walked the narrow path Beneath the smoking skies Sometimes barely tell the difference Between darkness and light Do we have faith in what we believe? The truest test is when we cannot see I hear pounding feet in the streets below And the women crying and the children know That there's something wrong It's hard to believe that love will prevail It won't rain all the time The sky won't fall forever And though the night seems long your tears won't fall forever
Never more!!!!!!!!!!
Einfach ein toller Titel von Alan Parson
I love the chorus starting at 0:55
This is a great Christmas Song!!!!!!!!! LOL
