The Pros and Cons of Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie: The Pros

Фильм және анимация

It's been three years since Patricia has posted her video on The History of Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie and two years since the release of The Jungle Movie on Nickelodeon. It's been the most requested video that Patricia has been getting for her to give her thoughts on both the movie and update the aftermath of its release. Patricia alongside Arun Mehta from The Arun Mehta Show will do just that. They first go over the positive aspects of The Jungle Movie.

I have a feeling they would sooner get a job working at a University. They're both doctors in their field, so I doubt teaching at an elementary school/middle school would be the least bit challenging for them, unless they love kids that much. On top of that, they already live at Sunset Arms to begin with (before they got stranded in San Lorenzo), so they will _always_ have a chance to be close to Arnold...and Helga

I kinda wish they kept the original concept of TJM where Arnold's parents are dead. I'm not speaking for myself here because my parents have always been part of my life, but there's lots of kids who have had to and continue to grow up without parents. There aren't very many cartoons I can think of featuring an orphaned protagonist that is also fairly grounded in reality. I dunno, to me it seems like a shame to have a character be relatable in that aspect, only to have a "psych nah" moment and take that away from those who could personally understand.

While that certainly would have been more realistic. I'm glad they didn't because it took so many years of Signing Petitions, writing letters, then watching Reruns on Demand and on The 90s Are all That/The Splat and Buying the Shout factory DVDs for the Jungle Movie to finally happen. And sticking with that I think would have just rubbed many fans the wrong way. Now if it came out when it was Initally planned to, that would have been received fine, but I think too much time had passed for it to not come off as Cruelty for the sake of Cruelty.

Same! During the time between the show and TJM, I became a young adult orphan, and... I watched the show growing up, so I already had that personal connection to it, but I saw a lot more depth to Arnold's character, related a lot more, from that new perspective. Hey Arnold! was always pretty realistic in how it dealt with life struggles. It didn't shy away from showing that things don't always go how you want or how you think they should... But that wasn't usually a downer. Like when Arnold is disappointed with Ruth in "Arnold's Valentine?" But then he really connects with "Cecile?" Ugh, that is one of my favorite moments in the whole series! I low-key shipped Arnold and Helga as a kid, but as an adult? Good Lord. I understood their relationship on a whole new level, because where they really connect is shared loneliness over their family situations and having to grow up too fast. And THAT'S the kind of thing I wanted the movie to focus on! Most of us aren't going to get our parents back; they're still part of our lives, but so is that loss. We find meaning in other places, often places we wouldn't have found otherwise. Like I said, those are the kinds of themes that I feel like made Hey Arnold! what it was. If Arnold had gotten some closure with his parents, carried on their work in helping the Green Eyes, and become closer to Helga and Gerald during the whole thing... That would have been a bittersweet, but ultimately uplifting ending. With what we got... It threw me, because it didn't feel like Hey Arnold! to me. Arnold, especially, felt a lot younger to me. But! I hear that if they do a season 6, he'll still have conflicts with his parents, like they being kind of kooky, and... Seems like it'd bother him that they missed so much time with him, and that they don't really know him because of that.

Good review! A few things bothered me about this movie and kind of keep it from being re-watchable for me. I didn't enjoy the fact his parents just magically woke up after so long. I kind of wish they'd killed them off because it would've been more realistic IMO. Instead they just wake up like "ok cool, let's go home." They literally woke up and said "Hey, Arnold." That made me roll my eyes so hard. Like, no. They've been sort of in a comatose state for YEARS. Who's been feeding them and giving them physical therapy to prevent muscle breakdown and bed sores? How did they pee and poop all this time? How did they eat? How did they live at all? Through the power of "love"? Did the green eyed people (who don't seem to be that tech savvy) somehow sustain them without medical intervention? How could they, if they were also under the sleeping sickness? Who has been nursing this entire village of comatose people?! If they had explained some of that, I would've probably been more open to them living in the end. So much was left unexplained that it ruined it for me. I think they should have just found out that the parents did pass away, but maybe they left another journal or something behind for Arnold to find, sort of like "we know we may not make it, but here are some life lessons we wish to teach you" sorta stuff. He could've still learned a lot along the way even if it didn't turn out the way he hoped. He could've also learned that it's not always about the destination, but the journey itself, which could've been a great lesson and fair payoff at the end. The fact that everyone rallied around him to see it through to the end would still be very inspiring and emotional. I also didn't really enjoy the overly cartoony stuff like Eugene suddenly turning into a balloon, and that being a recurring joke throughout the movie. I found it incredibly annoying and kind of immature for a movie that also features onscreen death for cryin out loud. It just felt incredibly bizarre when contrasted with the overall feel of the rest of it, at least to me. It didn't feel true to the original cartoon, if that makes sense. The old cartoon was always kind of silly, but for the most part was still pretty believable and they had definite physical limitations that made it seem more realistic. I hope you get what I mean, I'm terrible with words >. Overall the movie was "okay" to me. It wasn't really good or really bad, just kind of okay. But I'm glad others enjoyed it.

OMG this!!! I feel ~almost~ the exact same way, except I do love & enjoy the movie way too much for someone that has many issues with it as I do. I feel like that movie was a dream, as much as they want us to see/think that it was real, the very ending was unsettling even if you decide to ignore everything that is wrong with the narrative. I agree with everything you pointed out but there are even more things that I feel that are wrong, if I remember correctly Eduardo doesn't know what happened with Miles & Stella even though he knows how to get to the green eyes & can speak their language so unless he wanted them out of the picture I don't see why he wouldn't know what happened to them. There's also Bob, yeah he's an stubborn & prideful man but I don't think someone as workaholic as him would be so stupid as to not try to save his store by selling cellphones & I know he was always forgetting Helga's name but I don't remember Miriam being as forgetful of her in the series as she is in the movie, yeah, she's the first to remember but she only says "the other one", also, if the Patakis are poor how does Helga has al that filming equipment? Even if it's very old it's still weird. There are a lot of things that wouldn't have happened in the original series like Eugene being swollen for so long & not needing medical attention, the way they called for help & how little time they seem to make from Hillwood to San Lorenzo and I can go on rambling about things that feel wrong about the movie, I still love it and watch it a lot but there are so many weird & wrong things with it & Miles & Stella kinda give me the creeps

@Console Queen I myself am more critical of the film. I wasn't (and still not) a Hey Arnold fan when this film came out but I simply watched it for myself to see what the fuss was about. I personally didn't like it but I pretended that I did because I was trying to get into Hey Arnold at the time. As the months passed, I just came to accept that I just didn't enjoy it. My biggest problem with this film is that it's not very welcoming to newcomers. The beginning portion does a great job establishing Arnold's character but the other characters aside from Helga felt like strangers to me because the film skips past opportunities to give some world building and character development. I thought I was missing something and after watching Jambareeqi's review of the film, the problems were made much clearer to me (this was back when I was going through some personal complications). This main reason is why I prefer the first movie as unpopular as that sounds. That felt more like it was able to stand on its own whereas this one left me alienated and apathetic. I do have other problems with the film but I'll save them for the next part.

@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 Well said! It's interesting to hear the perspective of someone who wasn't a fan from the start. I loved the original as a kid, and that's why I gave this movie a shot. I had some ideas for hey Arnold season six early on Arnold and Helga would pinky swear in Arnold’s room to not display their relationship to their school friends in the fear of being teased and mocked Arnold agrees but tries to tell Helga not to go as far then Helga would say I got a make it believable so it’s this or being teased then they pinky swear but later on she would except being nice to Arnold around Phoebe and Gerald Several episodes would be that Helga would go with Arnold and his parents on humanitarian missions sometimes running into a mystery and Helga and Arnold get along like peas and carrots although Helga might display a little bit of an attitude here in there like when she was using her locket to replace the Corazon she feels much better with Arnold’s parents because her parents are not very nice to her or don’t notice her or give her attention so she feels loved and welcomed around Arnolds parents. And maybe there will be a few episodes where it would be Arnold and Gerald going on humanitarian adventures with Arnold’s parents. And there will be episodes like the first five seasons. Again these are just my opinions and thoughts on a sixth season. Maybe they could have episodes that would fill in what happened in the jungle movie.

It was a good hey arnold movie. The only thing I didn't like about hey arnold jungle book movie it was Bob's and Miriam's character derailment. The movie made them no longer love and care for Helga while in the cartoon of hey arnold they did love and care for Helga:(

Maybe with a Sixth season, at least, Miriam would likely straighten up when she sees Helga being more pampered in Miles and Stella's arms and with the latter giving her a pep talk on why did Miriam (and Bob) neglect Helga at the same time teaching them how to be a better parent. Bob is too stubborn and could be confrontational with Miles like he did with Grandpa Phil before.

@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 It didn't get a proper ending because Craig Bartlett and the Representatives of Nickelodeon were having disputes over creative control ownership, it got to the point where animation studios have gone corporate relying heavily on focus groups, from the business side they had prime time shows that are mainly consistent towards children and adult demographic including both pre-teens and Teens as well, even having animators to expand their craft respectively, the only series that can carry it's own weight for now is The Loud House, as for SpongeBob; however, it's overused, sloppy on writing, and threw other great shows in the toliet.

1.I liked Arnold better as an orphan. I always saw his grandparents as his parents. I think they should of taken the realistic route.2. I always thought Arnold deserved better than Helga she was too mean, unfriendly and manipulative. They were so different from each other.

Not surprised, because we see in the series numerous times that Oskar is an ambition less loser from a foreign country who really didn't seem like he contributed much (if at all) as their constant arguments showed. They had some tender moments on episodes centered around them but i've always wondered what exactly Suzie saw in him or how she ended up marrying a bum like him in the first place. It's clear to see that she finally came to her senses and decided to divorce him because he isn't what you would call a good husband in any sense. Seriously, just look at some of the stupid things he's done in the series. He's probably just barely scraping by and somehow managing to keep residence at the boarding house, especially considering Suzie was pretty much the one doing all the heavy lifting between them. Not exactly that great of a marriage when the man contributes little to nothing and is constantly losing money on gambling and lord who knows what else. Maybe she's met and even married another man out there who can actually provide for her in the way that Oskar obviously couldn't.

I hate a Christmas Story so much. Its one of the worst movies I have ever seen. There is no plot. Little boy: WAAAAAA I want the thing ending he gets the thing. Maybe if he saved up to buy it and worked really hard and it got lost. And he had to find it this would be a good movie but no.
