Love love love this being addressed! Whenever, even with family, I try and have a conversation about what they believe politically, because I truly want to know, all I get from them is, if I don’t believe the same as they do, how stupid I am, how I have drank the koolaide, etc.,etc. and they say it with such distain and hatred. Most times I don’t even get my first sentence out before they start with this diatribe. I must have been sleeping when this became okay because I didn’t see it coming. I have to say that it hurts me to see this especially in my own family. The disrespect we show even to our own people is beyond belief no wonder people have become so hateful to the people around us that don’t agree with us! Doesn’t anyone have conversations about things we may or may not agree on?

He’s not black , he’s Latino, specifically Puerto Rican and he certainly should never speak on issues pertaining to native black Americans. I suggest u look up his past. The man’s a charlatan and literally said he’d get more traction identifying as black because black Americans have social capitol and him identifying as a Latino wouldn’t get him anywhere since society sees Latinos as having a certain look or basically the whiter Latinos like Marco Rubios. This is wholly disrespectful to identify as something u aren’t, especially an ethnicity you aren’t a part of. Blackness isn’t fuccking flat and this is why I have zero respect for him

  • @SeraphsWitness

Technically you have to "belong" to vote in primaries in many states. That said, the parties are shorthand for worldviews. So pretending this just arbitrary or unnecessary is just strange. Some stances on issues just go together. Because they stem from that common worldview. This is why so-called centrists get so little respect. They cherry pick contradictory stances.

He nailed it, esp regarding people not being able to even converse with, much less get to know and date, people with different political beliefs. I call myself (39M) out on this, too, until more recently. Tired of missing out on getting to know people simply because modern political prejudices dictate that other beliefs are the enemy. We’re all missing out on so much and it’s been designed this way ever since we started carrying small supercomputers in our pockets.

Iv said basically this for a while. Not just the younger generation(definitely affects them most) but to many people prefer online interactions, shopping, eating, alot of people won't call they'd rather use the app. Self checkout... it goes on, and people are losing the ability to verbally/ non-verbally communicate in person. With that there are many consequences.

If I may add. Part of the problem is also an unwillingness to agree or admit that we agree. Perhaps also consider that we agree. There are things we should agree on before we branch off. As far as the Dem and Rep situation, to some extent I agree. Dating someone from your own party does make sense in terms of shared values. That being said, it is also important to be open to dating someone from the other side because for all you know, the two of you actually have a lot more shared core values than you both realize. Sometimes, the label is just a label.

  • @SeraphsWitness

He articulates it in a way that I’ve never heard before…highlighting the complexities and problems while also making it easy to comprehend. Unfortunately it ALSO helps that he’s black and speaking the truth because if he were white and saying the things he says we all know how he would be perceived. Same goes for Candace Owens and the many other young influential black people trying to heal this nation.

Also, I may like to add, even when younger generations have moments to interact with one another, there is fallacy of connection that is taken place-in other words, they do not emotionally connect. Instead they connect with screens, or however they can to repulse the paradigm of being vulnerable with another human being. They have become emotionless, which leads to emoting feelings incorrectly and it will just get worse for the majority.

I think this is true with the younger generation but also the older ones now aswell. As we interact with people more online and less in person you get to only see the worst of the side you disagree with without seeing them as rational human beings that are capable of conversation and, civil interactions. When ever someone tells me their political leaning in person i'm more intersted in the individual issues that make them believe what they do there's a lot of broad paint brushing going on otherwise.

cant believe theyre paying bro just to say things were better back in the day lol people find it hard to be attracted to someone that differs politically because we live in a time where information is so readily available, if you have ignorant views, you are either making a decision to be close minded or you are emotionally stunted (or both). that or you never learned how to properly be critical of information. people have no responsibility to engage with people who have chosen to be wrong or are too egotistical to learn how to be critical of information they agree with, and you are much more likely to exhaust yourself than to come to a common understanding. that said, there are a ton of people ready to share knowledge if you are curious and open-minded, and I'd say people are more ready to educate their peers than ever before. 😊
