The Primary Solution

Could structural reform of primary elections lead to better political discourse and a less divided country? What can actually be changed about our elections, and what's written in stone? Andrew sits down with Nick Troiano, Executive Director at Unite America, one of the biggest election reform organizations in the country, to talk about incentives and outcomes, what we can learn from Alaska, and overcoming learned helplessness.

It's exciting that Nick has a book about primaries and how to fix it. I already preordered it. Unite America is doing great work and I can't wait to help out somehow

    ANDREW YANG!!!

I followed Yang since 2018. First heard of him on Sam Harris podcast. While I don't agree 100% on everything with Yang, because of course not. I am my own person. I did feel that he spoke in a language that was clear and understandable to me. He spoke my concerns and frustrations and I always believed he wanted to do the right thing. I realize its difficult working through the chaos, and I'm just a tired working new yorker. Andrew, thanks for never stopping and always trying. And I get some of the criticisms too. Andrew moves so fast to try things from another angle, that it looks like he's just propping things up and walking away. But he's been consistent and open about his failures, why he's made some changes. But his core work is still the same. But he moved so fast, it was difficult to keep up with what he was doing and that made people question things. I was also at times concerned about what he was doing, but I never stopped paying attention. Again, thanks for your work. Please be good to yourself and stay healthy.

Did you see his statement from 2 days ago where he believes that institutions should choose the president and that we should end the right to vote?

just not with RCV please because it doesn't fix vote splitting among other issues like exhausted ballots, ect. Star voting has good resources that makes good arguments on why RCV has some failures and worries.

Yang tweeted out 2 days ago that he wants NOBODY to be allowed to vote. “Institutions” should choose the president internally.

Look up the forward party started by Andrew Yang. This is a major priority in the forward party. BTW the forward party is not running a presidential candidate this year as a spoiler like many people assume, they are supporting local people who want to get things done.

As a non-partisan voter, I’m not even allowed to vote in either of the two major parties’ primaries in my state even if I wanted to. I _might_ be allowed to vote in the Independent Party primary, but I don’t get a ballot for them. I’d like to see all states adopt open, cross-party primaries and then the top 4 or 5 go on to an election that uses STAR voting.

then join Star voting because of the problems that forward chapters are experiencing is a divide between RCV people and Star/Approval folks. Illinois and NJ are good examples.

RCV still has the “spoiler effect“ problem, by eliminating candidates who have the fewest 1st-place votes even though they may be most people’s 2nd choice. STAR voting solves this by selecting the two candidates with the highest total scores, then counting how many people rated one over the other.

I agree with Star voting. The problem is timing of implementation. RCV is getting implemented across the country and we may need to have voters understand it for a few years before we present another voting option. We are slow to adopt.

Absolutely Agree w/ya🤸🏁👍 RCV is DEFINITELY easier to understand 4 AVERAGE🙀 Americans🗽 right now so I'm supportin it. Will reconsider lookin into Star Voting later like you suggest🙆‍♀️🕊✌️
