So I’m fluent in English, it being my second language which I grew up speaking to people around me since the age of 5, but truth be told these videos are still extremely entertaining. I love the way you two explain and teach; most of the time when I’ve come across videos teaching something, the people teaching always view the viewers as of less mental capacity in a way, explaining every single detail as if speaking to a newborn, which, in my opinion, more or less condescends the viewer. But you two are great! You make the viewer feel as an equal, which is honestly very heartwarming! I’m so glad I came across this channel, and you two brighten up my day with your videos!

I have eaten = yo he comido You have spoken = tu has hablado He has arrived = él ha llegado She has helped = ella ha ayudado It has worked = (la cosa o animal) ha trabajado We have studied = (nosotros) hemos estudiado. Hi Elizabeth. Vicki here. I used to specialize in business English so I think it's where my mind tends to go when I'm writing scripts. (Plus it's an easy setting for us to shoot in.) Ohhhh my! It's sad and funny at the same time! But I think, there is something weird about such kind of speeches. There is a probability, that the boss or bosses will be astonished or shocked after hearing such extraordinary self-blaming and promote him for a better position. They may think he is being too honest and even exaggerates his fails, because he wants to do more for the company. Hi Ruben. The glottal stop is a feature of several British English accents, an it's especially associated with London. Basically we make it by stopping the air flow in our throats to produce the sound. When we make a video about cockney rhyming slang I'll try to demonstrate it and talk about it. Awesome! I lived in England ten years ago for about two years while I was doing a master’s at LJMU. I spent my time over there between Brighton for my IELTS preparation course and then Liverpool for Uni. Having said that, I still have some trace of the scouse dialect and accent 🤣 but now, living in Panama I watch more late talk shows from the US such as Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and James Corden who’s british too. I was wondering if I could help you out with the translation of your videos into Spanish, that would rather be something I will enjoy doing it in my free time. Next year i want to hit NYC and Philly and hope to meet you someday... keep it up !!

you both are perfect like present perfect! it's really useful for me 😁😁🤩🤩 it was a little hard for me to understand the real meaning of present perfect, but this video helped me. I find out what is the real problem: Persian doesn't has perfect present unlike English! it's the reason that I've found: in ancient times (before Islamic period), Old Persian and Middle Persian (Pahlavi) have such a structure with same meaning in English. but the modern Persian which has appeared in late 7 century AD, hasn't had this structure and now, we use 3 different structures for each meanings and it can confuse Persian learners!

We also had around 39 degrees, which felt like 60 degrees at work 😅 But today it actually feels really cold outside after this hot week with still 20 degrees 😂 Have a relaxing Sunday my dear 💕

Lovely to hear from you Steffi. We're doing well and the book is underway. I took it easy last week though because we did a lot of partying. Philadelphia is a wonderful place to be for the fourth of July because there's lots going on and we can see the fireworks from our roof deck so we had a big party. Big hugs to you in Germany, where I see you've been sweltering in the heat. It's been boiling here too, but I never complain about the heat. Constant heat is such a nice change from English summers. :-)

Hi Dawn. On most airlines that fly long distances, from Philadelphia to Europe for example, there a several classes of seats. The cheapest is Economy. Sometimes there's an Economy Plus with more leg room. The next class is Business Class where on long flights your seat may fold back into a bed, and then there's the very luxurious First Class with wider seats and great service. I have a question! Should I say "Have you been skiing?" Or "Have you gone skiing?", For examples - go surfing, go rock climbing, go camping, etc. My impression is that English speakers never say "Have you gone...?" Why?

Great question Renata. If you're talking about life experiences, we normally say 'been', as you have noticed. That's true in British and American English. If we're talking about recent activities, British and American English are a little different. The verb 'go' has two past participles in British English (been and gone) and we'll try to make another video about.

Hi Ritu. If someone said 'I've been a wrestler' then I would think that he is no longer a wrestler. But something about his experience in the past is relevant in the present. Perhaps he is explaining why he has big muscles, or why he has a bad back now. This is an example of the present perfect being used to describe past actions with resent importance.

My students have difficulty with the fact that English doesn't have one past tense like in it is in their native tongue. I hope this helps them.

Hi Sanaya. 1. We'd say this as 'She might come home late from work' and it would mean it's a future possibility. 2. We'd say 'She might have come home late form work' and it would mean it was something that possibly happened in the past. Sentence 3 is correct and it's interesting. 'Have to' is not an auxiliary verb here. It's a semi modal and it means 'must' or 'need to'. We could also say 'I have to have my hair coloured' and it would mean the same thing. We use the expression 'have something done' when we are talking about a service someone performs for us. Hi Sanaya, This is Jay writing back to you. I'm sure Vicki will have more to say about this, but I can at least comment on a couple of these. In the first sentence, I could say many different things and it depends on the circumstance. For example, in a crowded supermarket, I would most likely say, "Pardon me please." And that's generally all I would need to say if someone was blocking my way. Or, if needed to get to something on a shelf and someone was standing in the way, I might say "Excuse me, I just need to reach that box up there." And most likely the person in my way would move. But in America, the simple "Pardon me" or "Excuse me" is often enough to get someone to move out of your way. In the second case, I would most likely say "So sorry I'm late. Were you waiting long?" In another circumstance, where a customer service representative has put you on hold on the telephone, he or she might return to the phone conversation and say "I apologize for the long hold. Thanks for your patience." I'm not sure about your sentences 3 & 4 so I'll leave that for Vicki. Thanks for writing to us and thanks for watching our videos.

Hi Sanaya, Vicki here. In situations 3 and 4, the verb 'snare' would be helpful because it would enable you to avoid repeating 'trap'. Snare means to catch something, often an animal, in a trap. We can also ensnare people and things - a slightly more formal way of saying it. So with 3 we might say: They are trying to entrap you. or They are trying to ensnare you in their trap. And 4. The shopkeepers are trying to ensnare us.

Get rid of the background music. Very unnecessary and distracting.
