The Power of Solitude: How Being Alone Can Help Us Find Happiness | Eesha Vijayakumar | TEDxRutgers

Solitude is a gratifying and meditative experience. Eesha Vijayakumar pushed back on the stereotypes that college students should be constantly extroverted, and spoke instead about her introversion and realizations surrounding the power of solitude. Eesha is a freshman at the Rutgers Honors College, majoring in Leadership and Management and pursuing the pre-med track. She is an aspiring global equitable physician, philanthropist, and motivational speaker, who firmly believes in the power of people in shaping reality. Eesha has always enjoyed the opportunity to express powerful and esoteric ideas to the public, ever since performing plays with the Susan O’dell Taylor (elementary) School and, especially, after hearing Dr. Jane Goodall speak at the United Nations Student Peace Conference of 2017. She looks forward to uplifting humanity, exploring the Earth’s natural beauty, and embarking on inward journeys in the present and near future. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Loving your own company is not to be feared, it’s those that are afraid of being alone that should be questioning why.

Thank you Eesha for putting in words what loners feel at heart. Society imposes on us the need to "be with others" in order to have happiness and longevity. I applauded you for being an individual and daring to be different. You show a lot of wisdom and self-acceptance. Wishing you every happiness 🍀

Absolutely brilliant. Solitude for the purpose of self-discovery is such an underdiscussed topic and this young lady has covered it beautifully. I've already started recommending this talk to my friends. Very well done

What profound wisdom, verbalizing beautifully all the beauty that is removed from being alone and spending time learning about self. Being an adapted extrovert I fully relate to every word Eesha speaks, the moments that I spend on introspecting, keeps me sane and grounded as I navigate through a job that I absolutely love but it comes with a big dose of connecting and collaborating with people. Thank you Eesha for your profound wisdom 🙏
