You can do a hundred things right, but it takes only one thoughtless, reactive action to destroy it all. As we grow spiritually, we must attempt to enter into a state of non-judgementalism, and be more unconditional in our capacity to be more loving, tolerant and forgiving of others. Think of how many friendships and relationships with loved ones have been lost, damaged or permanently destroyed within a second as a result of being reactive. Especially, never speak in anger. Redirect your speech in prayerful meditation. Words are so powerful. What you say can never be erased, it becomes akashic record. It will follow you to infinity, it will even hurt your personality and your reputation. Use your words to heal, uplift, build and bless everyone. Do not use your words to divide and destroy others.
Sometimes when you want to react, wait. It is important to practice the spiritual art of waiting because so much more is revealed in time and this leads to positive spiritual transformation. Look back over your life and remember times when you reacted and later, realize that waiting would have been better for you and everyone else. By taking time for ourselves, we allow divine intelligence to work on the subconscious level in ourselves and others so that we may be shown what to do next.
The process of not reacting is a spiritual practice that develops your awareness. It makes you more conscious and open to listen to the voice of divine wisdom causing you to see things from a broader perspective. When you are more conscious your character starts to change. A conscious person is more compassionate. Happiness is not possible without self-discipline. For us to operate from a place of pure consciousness we have to be completely free from all negative conditionings, all complexes, all unhealthy likes and dislikes and prejudices so that we may have absolute neutrality. All situations we are faced with happen in order to provide us with opportunities for growth and learning. They prepare us for things that may happen in the future to ourselves or others. In the present moment these things cannot so clearly be seen. By not reacting we allow ourselves to enter more into a neutral space of our own divinity, then it becomes clear, in time, why things unfolded the way they did. We must keep in mind that the Creator always reveals his vastness and infinite wisdom to mortal minds over time. In the same way you must always look at the actions of a true Spiritual Master over time.
Above all, it is important for us to work upon ourselves constantly in order to ensure that in a moment of forgetfulness we do not become reactive and hurt anyone who has done something that, according to our mortal perception, is seen as being wrong or having caused us frustration or anger. Our perception of reality can change our reality, and through our words and actions we can change that reality for others as well. If we choose to see sunshine then that is what we will see, and we will not give power to the dark clouds that loom to spoil the day. If we choose to focus on the negative aspect of everything, then negativity will penetrate the way we see everything. If we choose to go through our challenges with a smile on our face, then our challenges will never have a chance to cling to us like mud. When, through a lack of consciousness, we choose to give the power of our good feelings and of our joy over to somebody who is excessively critical, then we allow our good feelings and joy to be clouded by their negativity. As a result of giving away our power, we spiral down and down into the mud. Do not allow an overly critical person to make you feel negative. Some overly critical people often have unreasonably high expectations of their own accomplishments and personal behavior. Most of them are smart, talented and effective. Sometimes they are so set in their ways that their narrowmindedness causes them to constantly complain and look down on those who do not share their limited view of life If someone is criticizing everything that others and you are doing, maintain your sense of positivity and do not allow them to pull you in their negative storm. Never accept another person’s reality as your own. Do not identify with another person’s opinion unless it makes you a better person. Do not place too much importance on other people’s opinion about you unless it makes you better human being.

@@tomsheils1096 there’s a TeDxTalk about ‘Don’t take it personal.’ It is good. We need to learn to DETACH ourselves from others comments. Also there’s a great person here on KZread, young, but with wisdom beyond her life years, who is amazing at teaching us to think about our expectations from others, etc. (Edit: BK Shivani is her name and KZread channel) It is great as a foundation to detach ourselves from others. Only by making a conscious decision for ourselves, we can do this. Though we go into our ‘default’ system, just like a computer, we must make sure we stay with the ‘UPDATES’ on a regular basis.

Now that you're aware of it, just try to remain conscious of it at all time. Practice silence/non-reaction with every interaction and it will become your natural response. If you are interacting with people who consistently abuse you when you are doing your best to get along, it is probably best to minimize/cease contact as some people are just not going to stop. In time maybe you can deal even with them without being affected, but it's not something I am able to do yet. Peace and love to you.

I wish I had this teaching 50 yrs ago.😭I have ruined relationships that I cared about that would have tripled my joy in life. I have been left with misery. I listened to false voices and feelings in my head and heart.😭It's SO HARD living with these regrets. I still cry over the losses, unforgiveness, anger, misunderstandings, and missed opportunities. The unforgiveness, anger, resentment, and the false reality of a situations that lead me down a dark path of repeated reactions for decades and left misery behind! I carried the anger of my childhood into my adulthood. I didn't realize this until I brought God deeper into my life. I failed to listen too many times. He's the great teacher and comforter in time of regrets. Rely on God's strength and never your own. Self control is not just what comes out of your mouth but, what goes into your mouth, ears, and eyes.🙊🙉🙈 Put on the armor of God's love and be fully protected. You will make mistakes, but fewer and fewer. Accept the peace and forgiveness God offers you. Repentance and forgiveness are a moments prayer away.💗💔💗

"Never accept another person's reality as your own". I like this phrase, especially combined with being mindful of my attachment to judgement against a narcissist's need for shifting my reality, rather than focusing on my own journey through what I see as reality. It's in how I react that has been holding me back.

When my father passed away, I was the only sibling that was on speaking terms with him. I also did not speak with most of my relatives because of trouble with them through the years. When he died, I was left his property and his money. My relatives came at me with all kinds of disgusting phone calls and harassed through text messages. All the while, I decided to just ignore them and do what needed done through court. I went against the urge to get down right evil because it wasn't really needed...As it turned out, the harassment stopped when they saw it had no effect...I got through it by not giving them the satisfaction or ability to control my decision making.....Sometimes, silence is the better path.....I knew their words were used by them to hurt me....I didn't take the bait...I maintained control by not responding....

By your ignorant statements, I can tell what type of nutty relative you would be in this type of situation? What happened, did mom or daddy leave you out of their will? If so, did you ever stop to think that maybe you were the problem? No! That can't be! You come across as a self serving and entitled idiot! I never tried to come across as an amazing person. I was simply stating how I got through a sad situation and had mentally ill relatives making it worse...If my father's wish were to split his estate " equally", he would have done that in his will...You have no idea what you are talking about!

You learn a lot about people when you don’t react. All the pettiness and how they view you. In the end, you come to realize that they don’t really know you and their attacks are just the lens from how they see the world from their own past experiences. It’s not the same lens you are looking out at them from. For the person that was cheated on, everyone is a potential cheater. For the person who was robbed, everyone is a potential thief. Reacting doesn’t solve anything. Waiting and discussing in a calm matter might help, but if a relationship is destroyed, ask God to give the person peace and love and remove yourself from further harm.

Jasmin, I had a brother we used to taunt (when we were kids) just to see how angry we could make him. One day my mother told him the story of the BERSERKER. The berserker was a fictional story about a man the townspeople put in a cage in the middle of town square. The townspeople would taunt him mercilessly until he went berserk and this was their sick form of entertainment. After my mother told my brother that story, he changed. We could no longer get a rise out of him, so we stopped trying.

As you aptly stated, "Resistance of what IS is the root cause of pain and suffering" -- for me, resistance can MANIFEST in the form of reaction/overreaction (a learned response), and I can choose neutrality instead as it leads to a clearer mind and inner peace. It's a more active choice for me. Blessings

When we react we are reacting subconsciously, we are on autopilot behavior, it is autopilot bcuz it is what we have been doing for years. In order to change, we have to be present in the moment and choose not to react, choose to change. Eventually what seems like hard work will feel more natural as the brain rewires to the new behavior. Don't give up, it only takes practice, repetition and time for the brain to rewire.

I agree with all you say.....it’s taken me till 60 to undo the damage that I have embedded in me from childhood & to try to make myself a kinder more loving person to live with, ALL of the time!.......like so many comments I have just read: this video will become my daily meditation. Life is too short to hold onto the hurts and anger that I am still processing when meeting challenging people that I have no choice but to try to get along with (relatives). I’m not a religious person, but I love the meditation at the end. Anything that can help to diffuse my reaction when I am taunted by bullies in my family and to try to see that there is a kinder, more positive way through a disagreement than to destroy all the love and positivity that I have built over the years, by exploding.....Please ‘let there be light’ at the end of a very difficult tunnel!

Try to identify your emotions when they come, I promise you one thing, all emotions pass♡ its ok to feel, its what we do, when I'm mad, i will announce "I'm F'ING MAAAAAD, LET ME BE MAAAAAD. SO IM NOT GUNNA MAKE SENSE TO ANYONE THAT GETS IN MY WAY RT NOW" if others choose to engage with an angry person that's on them, I think if we warn others of where we are at, and they choose to engage and it blows up, we can at least allow ourselves the forgiveness that we did make an attempt to have some accountability, by being open about our emotional status, that is in its own way keeping our side of the road clean, we are never wrong about how we feel..

Dear Lee, so many of us "fit the profile" of BPD at times in our lives, but what I've come to believe is that BPD is just unresolved trauma habits from our childhood. I used to not be able to control my emotions/reactions either, but when I realized THAT WAS NORMAL given my life experiences, it soothed me so, so much. And since that realization, the tangle of old habits has come undone to a large degree, and I'm much less reactive. HOWEVER--I am still healing and still have so much practice to do in my new habits. I've recently realized one of my residual trauma-habits is thinking, when I don't get a response from someone, that they hate me. It's completely unhelpful and useless to think that, and it's definitely a reactive thought habit that I need to continue working on. Anyway, just wanted to share my experience with you. I abhorr the stigma around BPD because it's not fair to those of us who have struggled so much due to psychological trauma during our youth. Also, I do believe BPD can be overcome. And I think the label of BPD is often just a cop-out for a biased/lazy/uninformed psychiatrist!!

It made me realize that when one does not react to every person and event in our lives, that we can actually connect with a higher state of consciousness and have the ability to see our reality on a much deeper level. What a blessing!
