The Parent's Role in EC vs. Potty Training

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Did you know that elimination communication has an expiration date? Or rather, there’s an age at which it’s no longer developmentally appropriate, and when our child reaches that age, it can get messy (pun intended!). Believe it or not, the biggest things that need to change at this stage are YOUR mindset and view of your role in pottying, and your child will follow suit! Could it really be that simple? Tune into today’s episode to find out!

I’m struggling with my 2 year old. It seems like he is unable to hold his bladder for 2 hours or more. I want to get him out of diapers for good we stopped diapers during the day but I have him back in diapers at night how can I get rid of diapers altogether ?

Start with no diaper at night time (no diaper, no undies either!) and protect the bed. If he can hold his pee all nap time, then he might be able to hold it most of the night too! 😊 😴

My almost 2 year old still is "pre verbal." He gets it with the potty, but his preschool still requires diapers, and I think because he's non verbal, and they don't know how much language he understands, they are not cooperating with potty training. He's basically potty trained at home but I can't get him to learn how to push his pants off.

How frustrating that must be to not have buy-in from your caregivers!! I'm sure they can SEE how much he understands from other circumstances there. As for pushing down pants, try teaching this skill when its not potty time - its way too urgent then! You can even make it a bit of a game to start 👍 😊 And start with no undies since that is easier than having to push down 2 things.

@@AndreaOlson Do you have any recommendations to make it like a game? I do show him with his hands, and demo on myself, but after practicing with him more than twice, he gets angry. But maybe if it was more fun, he would be more willing. Keep in mind his language is a little behind too. He knows how to put his arms in the sleeves, eat with a spoon, and can take his shoes and socks off, which makes me think he could push his pants down if he just put in some effort into it.

@@AndreaOlson He does laugh when I get my pants up and down, and I think he tried to copy and get his pants down but he was grabbing at his crotch area when he tried to do so. I feel like he is potty trained (not independent though). But his preschool keeps telling me that he isn't interested and they are not seeing signs of readiness. I wish the readiness thing wasn't pushed so hard in this day in age.
