What’s crazy is when I was relaxed and didn’t pay attention to any of this stuff, no issues. No hygral fatigue problems. Become natural and bam all these rules. While I’m never returning to a relaxer, it was definitely less demanding. I agree on coconut oil. It’s a terrible sealant but a fabulous pre-poo

I think its because, in its relaxed state, the cuticle lays at its flattest so does not take too much water in and therefore avoids the hydral fatigue. The strand is also straight enough for the scalp's natural oils to run down the strands length keeping the strand fairly moisturised. The biggest obstacle w kinky hair is that our natural oils cannot get to the bottom of the hair shaft because of the. Strand shape which leaves us with dull, dry hair.

Me: I'm a P.I.M.P Me: after watching video: staring at 98% my hair products with disdain. Honestly I stopped using most of them and just went back to blue magic with the coconut oil, olive oil, coconut oil (unrefined), Jamaican castor oil, and my shea butter (raw and african). IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW. I was constantly putting coconut oil on my hair after washing (w/ or w/o shampoo) and my hair would be bone dry in less than 3 hours but with pockets of dampness. I noticed my hair DID however look great when I pre-poo'd with coconut oil and then rinsed with hot water (for me I lowkey found this out on accident yeaaaars ago when I was running late for middle school and I put too much coconut oil in my hair and I was like nah I'm not bouta get roasted like that today so I leaned over the tub and rinsed it all out. I HAVE NEVER had my hair feel so soft and pantene-bougie. I don't know why I stopped doing that but I have recently returned to it after finally realizing that pree-pooing is not extra it is needed). Thank you soooo much for the videos. It's honestly hard to find good information not rooting in baseless fact in the natural hair care community (but this is slowly changing I have noticed) and It's between you and 3 other youtubers. Saving me money and giving me common hair sense. Priceless info. I usually don't comment much but I HAD to especially after the coconut oil bit. I have been wondering for years why it would leave my hair greasy but dry.

Thank you for this video...I went natural 8 years ago after relaxing my hair for over 30 years when my mom had my hair permed as a child because she didnt know how to handle my thick curly hair. I grew my relaxer out and finally remembered what my hair looked like as a kid. I wear my hair straight..I am puerto rican and I would go to my dominican hair salon and she would do my have hair and I would maintan it at home with rollers or doobie at night. Since the pandemic I have been on my own and my hair had become dry, it was shedding more and my ends were tangling more. I did exactly what you said to do...I have high porosity hair...I had some coconut oil..did the pre-pro over night.....I co washed with my wen fig...mixed some wen, aloe vera juice and water in my spray bottle and used organic hemp seed oil. My hair felt softer just from the wash...it did shed but less..I did do little braids, sprits it the solution for moisture and protected with the hemp oil...my ends were popping with the curls...my hair feels and looks so much better...Thank you...I have learned how to take care of my hair while I remain at home and the pre -poo before wash day. I am learning now how to refresh it when the time comes. Thank you so much...I have learned alot from you. Since you did a video on oils for the hair...can you do it for the skin? Does the oils the pentrate and protect does that apply to how the skin will react to it? I want to use oils for my dry mature skin. Thank you

Thank you. 10 years in to being natural and you have confirmed what I thought. I've tried so many products and keep going back to this line out of Baltimore: OYIN. The honey hemp conditioner and whipped pudding are my staple. But I couldn't figure out what oil to use. I was using this hair grow oil that clumped my hair like I had in freeze spray in it when I would wash it. Then I found the castor oil that whole foods only sells at certain locations...fast forward to the thickness and moisture that has entered my life🤗‼It's been a long time since I've said I like my hair, but I can say it loud and proud now.

Loving the info that is being brought forward here. The Hydral fatigue piece of info here was a game changer here for me, because no matter what I did, my hair was DRY. All growing up through now, my hairstylists in the salons have always commented about how dryyyyyyyy my hair was, with an exasperated question mark. Yet, no one ever offered a solution or helpful comments. Thank goodness for the internet and the info on hair porosity!!!! From there, when I would ask questions to my hairstylists, I would just get a blank look. I am now natural for over a year, and my hair is just still so dryyyy! My bathroom has every oil, several shampoos, several conditioners, silk bonnets, silk pillow cases, etc. I've got microwavable heating caps and electric. I've got vitamins, stocked refrigerator and cabinets with cucumbers, salmon, sardines, organic foods, collagen supplements. Hundreds of dollars! When I try something new, it works for 2 weeks, and then here comes queen sahara again. It's true that we all have to experiment to see what works for each of us. My hair has grown sooo much and become healthier for sure, but dry, dry dry and brittle. I am absolutely downloading your book and thank you for informing all on SCIENCE backed facts. Question: I thought petroleum was bad/toxic? (Hair grease). Is its processing ok?

Low Porosity Fine Low Density hair - My Moisturizer: A) 1 part aloe vera juice ( try to get the purest kind with no additives) B) 1 part tea or distilled water (tea made with flax seeds, nettle, fenugreek, lavender buds & rosemary- no need to use all these-just flaxseed and nettle tea are fine) or use plain distilled water C) 5% total weight hydrolyzed protein ( I use Silk protein as it is one of the more gentle hydrolyzed proteins out there for hair. Use the liquid version - less stinky than the powder. Use less than 5% if you are protein sensitive ( 2%) or eliminate it altogether. I would strongly encourage someone with fine hair/low-density hair to incorporate even a little bit of hydrolyzed protein though - as it will greatly help with fortifying your strands and minimizing breakage. The shine, silkiness, thickness, and softness/bounce are nice perks too. D) Preservative ( I use Germall Plus @ 0.5% of the total weight. You can also use Optiphen too ). Note: Shelf life - 1-2 years , ph: 4.5-5.5 ( perfect for hair. Use Citric acid to adjust if the end result is a bit high on the scale. Use a tiny pinch and test. Final product should be ph balanced. I did not need to adjust mine) Mix in a spray bottle and use on freshly washed hair that is damp. Follow with your favorite hair butter mix and seal your ends with your favorite DIY beeswax pomade. Use very little of the pomade and stick to just your ends Your hair will be moisturized for 6 to 7 days minimum. The longest that I can go without re-moisturizing is 10 days and I've even stretched it to 14 days without re-applying anything. This mix really works! My regimen: I preepoo every wash day with warm water spray and my DIY growth oil (my favorite oils infused with ayurvedic powders, herbs, and Saw Palmetto powder ) on my scalp & hair. Then I sit under my heating cap for 25 mins. I let it cool for 5-10 mins (prepping stuff in the meantime) and proceed to wash and deep condition. I use shampoo every other week and in between, I cowash with the Eden BodyWorks Cowash (avoid your scalp with this stuff - it's a hair refresher, not a cleanser). I make sure to alternate between a Clarifying Shampoo and a Moisturizing one as I live in an area with hard water (It is important to know whether you have hard water or not -this was a game-changer for me). Having low porosity, low density, fine hair can be really frustrating sometimes but we can get through this and stop the cycle of big chopping whenever the frustration takes over. I hope someone out there found this helpful. Take care and have a wonderful day!

Moisturizersss my low porosity hair is like mehhh. Once I have a good leave in, some warm water and a medium oil, my hair is good to go. When I had locs my hair loved burnt sugar pomade by oyin. Its too heavy for my loose hair so I have to use a tinnny bit. Its good because its oil content is good so I can use it after a leave in and skip the oil. It is all about listening to your hair and knowing how it reacts. I can't do too much protein and I keep an eye on the moisture content of items and water. There is just so much!!! Still, I am thriving. I appreciate the knowledge and not the brand chasing information. New subscriber.

I noticed s couple years ago that my hair low porosity hair loves it when I use African Pride Olive Oil leave in conditioner and then put JBCO on top to seal. I was also using Bronner Bros Pine Tar with the JBCO to seal and help with dry scalp and flaking. My length retention was amazing, and as long as I maintained a regular schedule (wash day every 1-2 wks, moisturize hair and scalp every 3-4 days), I had no problems with retaining moisture and less tangles.
