The Orford Wildman - Folklore of Suffolk, East Anglia. Tales from Suffolk, Norfolk, and Essex
One of Suffolk's and East Anglia's favourite folklore tales. The story of The Wildman of Orford. Who was he? Where did he come from, and what happened to him? In this video I tell the unusual story of what happened in the small village of Orford on the Suffolk coast back in the 1100's.

I suspect you've done more for the Suffolk tourist industry in 10 minutes than all the paid adverts put together! ❤
Fabulous accent, love listening to your Suffolk twang ❤️
When I went to Orford Castle, they had a fine display of exterior scaffolding which I hope will be gone for this summer season!
Will try to do exactly that this bank holiday! 🙏😊
Stayed in Orford a few years ago. Lovely keep there too.
Fascinating
Great story, thank you so much.
There's lots of sightings of wildmen even in England, and I think they are equivalent to the US sasquatch or yowies like we have in Australia.
They may have mistook a walrus or saloon for a real man, but the story is interesting to hear.
I'm only 2 minutes in .... my guess is that they caught a Norfolk man who drifted down the coast after a midday swim 😄

Your comment did make me laugh. It reminds me of some of the banter that goes on between Ipswich and Norwich footie supporters :D
Wonderful story! 🤎💚💙

Thank you so much, glad you liked it 🙂
Has some great nights out in orford in years gone by, before it became two thirds holiday homes, jolly sailor pub, freshly caught fish. I helped build the new village hall years ago, strange eerie place in winter, now it's quite empty

Like many places around here, the holiday homes and second homes are certainly abundant now! I remember how it used to be too, busy at the weekends with visitors but during the week days, evenings, or Winter so much quieter, and as you say eerie at times too. It’s a lovely place.
I remember a drama company performing a play of this at school.

Weren’t those the best days of school, when either you had to watch a performance or some tv film thing and not be in actual lessons.
Another great post Sare, Keep up the lovely work !

It’s a beautiful place, you’ll like it there I’m sure of it.
There was a recent BBC series filmed, I thought in the Orford area. I watched every episode I could get on Netflix just for the shots of rural Suffolk. The Detectorists. Do you know which village it was filmed in?

One of my most favourite shows! It’s filmed not far from me, and mostly around the Framingham area which I know so well. It was such a treat to see places I already knew in a show that I grew to love so much. It’s so gently paced isn’t it.
i was bought up on storys like this my old dad and all his brothers and sisters were bought up in dallinghoo and dad was well into all this kind of thing and claimed to once of seen black shuck ! only he saw it here close to the suffolk boarder

Who am I? Making a comedy out of Suffolk? You’ll have to explain your reasoning on this maybe.
