    Thank you Susan for letting me know - that's interesting. I think you are correct because I've just read this by a Town Councillor in 2014: "Mr Windell said it was believed the cannons were in place before the naval Battle of Sole Bay in 1672, but the current ones were given to the town in 1746 by the Royal Armouries."

    @@paultsworld no problem, there’s a little canal house further down the river where you took a picture of the bridge, where there was a canal connecting to the cathedral and the castle back in the day to transport the goods, actually still very picturesque. Is Ely, Cambridgeshire considered part of East Anglia?

  • @paultsworld

    @paultsworld

    2 ай бұрын

    That’s an interesting question! I have always thought of Cambridgeshire as part of East anglia. What is your opinion? I have just done a quick search and this came up: Cambridgeshire (abbreviated Cambs.) is a ceremonial county in the East of England and East Anglia. It is bordered by Lincolnshire to the north, Norfolk to the north-east, Suffolk to the east, Essex and Hertfordshire to the south, and Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire to the west. And: East Anglia is an area in the East of England. It comprises the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, with Cambridgeshire and Essex also included in some definitions.
