The device's port is USB4, but since you're hooking up a Thunderbolt 3 eGPU enlosure, the protocol connecting these two is Thunderbolt 3, since USB4 can be backwards compatible to TBT3, even on non-intel devices, since intel contributed the TBT3 specs to the USB-IF, which used them to create USB4. Just remember that USB4 does not _necessarily_ support "PCIe Tunneling" (what lets you hook up external GPUs). A lot of USB4 is, unfortunately, optional. At minimum, it just supports USB 3.2 Tunneling at 10 Gbit/s (or is it 20 Gbit/s? I keep finding conflicting information about this)! So you still need to check what you're actually getting. -This was also true for Thunderbolt 3, afaik, by the way.- And Thunderbolt 4 is basically USB4/TB3 with most (all?) of the "optional boxes" ticked, from my understanding. It's just really well thought out. 5:38 It may be bigger than the Steam Deck, but close the lid on the Win Max 2 and put both devices in their cases, and the Win Max 2 will become WAY more portable than the Steam Deck. @SIPEROTH

From what i remember in the 90's the motto was "don't bother talking about your new top PC because it will be old news in a month" especially in the latest years when AMD was hitting hard with their AMD64. It was the age of the MHz and GHz fight where a new higher clock CPU released almost every month and those days those higher clocks made much more difference than now. New generation GPUs were getting yearly releases as well like smartphones after Nvidia and ATI(ATi is the company AMD bought so they can start making GPu's) appeared and their GPU war started. Mobile phones were getting better everyday and PalmOS was innovating with portable smartphone like devices. Things were wild from 94 to 2002 something. And now we have similar circumstances. AMD has found their mojo back forcing Intel to wake up and CPU wars starting, their GPU's are also catching to nVidia with even Intel entering the market and mobile devices and smartphone wars are going great with AMD and Intel making good laptop low powered APu's, while the ARM type APU's wars are going big with Qualcomm, Mediatec, Apple and Samsung+AMD being in full fight. The only problem with today's age is this horrible politicians and globalists that created a big inflation and an economic and energy crisis that made things go slower this last 2 years.
Even though I wouldn't actually have any use for one, nor could I realistically afford it, I still get really excited when you feature these GPD handheld-laptop-whatever devices. I have no idea why, but I'm super into them :D

@@jessica49arrow By today’s standards it would be pretty lacking. There had to be dedicated buttons for L3 & R3 because the sticks couldn’t click in. The fan that cools the system was not set up to automatically detect the heat of the processor so there was a dedicated switch to turn the fan on high, low, or off. The device itself does get pretty warm on the back when gaming on it. The biggest thing is though is it’s not really a gaming APU. You’re lucky if you can play any 3D games. As I was saying Fallout 3 was one of the exceptions, but I’m sure I was barely getting over 30fps, probably everything set to low, and probably below 720p resolution. On the fly TDP switching: There is a tool "Motion Assistant" that adds the ability, though the bios setting acts as the upper limit. It also allows fine-tuning the GPU frequency, which in some other video was shown to allow reaching the same FPS at up to 25% lower TDP.
I know I'm late to the game seeing this video, but I kind of want this as both a gaming device and an ultraportable GIS mapping device. It's small with some graphics muscle that can probably handle ArcGIS and a decent amount of data reasonably well but is tiny and light if you're out in the field. Also...the gamepad might make for a good map browsing tool. And you can play games with it after work. And you can do regular laptop work stuff. I know that's an even more niche use case for it - the academic who does GIS and likes to play games, but it might be a good one for that use case.

So, going old school, triggering samples from a QWERTY keyboard, Fast Tracker style? I'm in :D
As someone who disables the trackpad on every laptop I buy, how nice it is to not have to worry about accidentally palming the thing.
A tiny ring or wristband. Connected wirelessly to contacts. Full VR/AR with body tracking which enables a desktops work environment anywhere, any time 🤞🏻
Man, this thing is actually quite compelling. The graphics performance rates between a GTX 1050ti and a 1650, which would be enough I think, for most stuff when on the go. The location of the trackpad, while awkward, makes the most sense to me- I would just use a gaming mouse. And while I would also choose an external gamepad, having it built in is still really good in a pinch. I could stick this thing in my backpack, plus a 15" portable monitor, a Switch, headphones, and gamepad, and my shoulders would (probably) hate it less than if I cram my HP Omen in there with its massive charging brick. I'm blown away.
I've been considering a steam deck for almost a year now, but this might have sold me- I dig the portability and multi-fumction use of something like this, especially when emulation requires more integrated keybinds than what many 3rd party gamepads offer.

The Steam Deck is powerful, make no mistake, but its pricepoint is purely a marketing strategy moreso than a tech strategy. Valve is viciously undercutting the already surprisingly deep competition bench and they're using the tried and true gameplan of "give away the razor to sell the blades". The Steam Deck is primarily a machine to encourage sales on Steam and it does so very very well, personally I've found myself buying more games now as a Steam Deck owner than prior despite my gaming rig because I'm now buying titles that can work on BOTH systems. It's a very good value proposition. That all said I don't think GPD is being unreasonable in their pricing, compared to other "normal" laptops on the market it's pricepoint is also viciously aggressive and they don't have a post-sale pipeline to generate revenue off beyond pure customer loyalty (which they clearly have). Both are really good machines for different circumstances, and I think those with deep enough pockets could easily talk themselves into purchasing both.

The big problem is that they are too small of a company to be able to order custom screens. They can only buy what's available. So it was a choice between staying smaller with an OKish keyboard and a small portrait screen with massive bezels, like the Max 1, or going a little bigger and having a large landscape display with small bezels and a far superior keyboard. And the benefits of a landscape display in Windows are massive if you like to play old DX8 games or games in exclusive full screen.
Can't wait for the GPD sin 4 review its looking amazing
I finally have a compy for my fancy leather netbook case that originally came with a clamshell back in I think the mid 2010s!
Personally I just want a super small super portable laptop, which I can then take home and connect to a keyboard, mouse, two displays and have it function as my desktop. This is perfect for that!
Yes mom, I need this for school!
I just ordered one with the 7840u, the covers for the game pads are actually what sold it to me. I'm looking to use it to replace my personal laptop which I use for work (where I'll use the covers) and in the office, and intend to use with VR immersed with the Visor. Whilst being able to take it home and plug it into my GPU with the oculink to replace my desktop. The processor is better than my desktop CPU! :)
The covers for the controllers would be nice for protecting the screen when the screen is closed.
I appreciate GPD. After your video about the P2 Max I was convinced and bought it. I really liked the device but after 2 years it just stopped working. No boot, only fan spinning up for a bit. I tried troubleshooting on forums but nobody would respond. I wrote to GPD as well and they wanted to charge me $150 for the sole privilege of them looking at what's wrong, and then (they said) if it was the motherboard it would cost $500 (!!!) to replace it. These prices are set so that nobody ever sends anything to them for repairing. Also, after lots of diagnosing the laptop turns on 5 min at a time, then bluescreens. I am pretty sure the problem is with the CPU itself or with the BGA solder underneath it. Which is a consequence of the poor design of the cooling system - the laptop ran very HOT. I seriously hope this product is better but I will avoid buying GPD because their tech support just sucks. So you take a big risk when deciding to buy GPD.

honestly this is more of a subjective thing based on how big/smol of hands you have, which i think is why finding a middle ground is a pain in the ass but also is looks could be deceiving and could be more comfy in the hand then it looks, the steam deck is the same way, i thought it looked uncomfortable as hell to hold but once you actually get to hold it, its nowhere near as bad as it looks (based on using a friends steam deck for a couple of hours)
This will also be a cloud gaming beast. Beautiful large screen (up to 2k) and full laptop usage.

As someone who owns both GPD Win Max 2021 (last year's model) and the Steam Deck, I can only sing praises for this thing. Also it may be larger than SD when opened up, but when you close it and put both of them in their cases, the Steam Deck takes up WAY more space.
