Mr Plimsoll's beard needs some sort of safety line all of its very own
That was wonderful. My father who was not just a Captain and a surgeon so many years ago , taught me before I was 7 all there was at least all I remember , about the plimsoll line. He never judged it, just explained. I think I had morning tea or other enjoyable times in so many Captain s cabins. Even the Gothic when the Queen was on tour. How I love the sea and my ashes will go there soon . Thank you for that program.❤
The series creator Cyril Abrahams took the ship's name Ondine, moved the letter e and came up with the surname Onedin, which is not known anywhere else than in this excellent drama. Other writers look in a phone book or take a name from a shop sign, but Mr Abrahams very suitably did it with a real-life ship.
Too many actors from this series have passed away; James, both Robert's, both Fogarty's, Lettie, the Mr Kipling man (James Hayter), Baines and more.
After binge watching since episode 1...this by far the best as it sticks close to the real Plimsoll story.
7:38 "he's now gone off to fetch Mr Plimsoll". - someone's going to get thrashed with it.
I had to laugh, when I noticed the ship sail @ 36:27 and could clearly see the Plimsoll Line already marked on the exterior hull 😸

Wasn't Plimsoll the bloke who popularised rubberised sports shoes ? His name rings eight bells.

There are many such oddities throughout the series: stock footage for storms, berthing, sail handling, steel-built clippers, etc, but TBH none detract from the enjoyment.

I noticed the same thing, I guess we edit more nowadays than in the 70's. I am missing Jane Seymour the most! @@starquant
I used to drink in the Plimsoll Arms, in Plimsoll Road, Highbury, named after Samuel, the sailor's friend . . . Nice boozer . . . . .
A bit of history in this episode. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Plimsoll
At least that new bloke has a few weeks to get used to Silk Cut.
Where did Fogarty's wife go?
This Robert is unbearable.

The actor playing the new Robert has since passed away. It can't have been an easy job. The original Robert returns in season 4, episode 1.

@@androidman8664 James Garbutt was OK.. but I never quite believed in Robert being an MP and going to London. Local politics, being a councillor would have been more plausible. Im glad that Brian Rawlinson came back
