    - 0:19 Choose systems rather than goals. - 0:40 A goal is a specific objective you achieve or not sometime in future. What is waiting to be achieved someday, is a goal. - 0:45 A system is what is done on a regular basis that achieves odds of overall happiness in long run. What is done everyday, is a system. - 1:00 A goal is a result to achieve, a system is the process that brings those results. System is the practice, while goal is performance. ===== - There are 4 steps to change outputs by changing systems of inputs (each step is numbered in order). 1) 2:09 Identify the why. Reflect on where you are and where like to be. To learn this, a great framework to try is current state vs desired state gap analysis. 2:44 1st in this analysis, find where you are currently in situation, answer questions like "how am I feeling?", "how do I spend time?", and "what is currently driving me?". 3:13 2nd in this analysis, find where you are desired to be in situation, answer questions like "how would I like to be living in an ideal world?", "why do I have this desired state?", and "is my desired state rooted in my values?". 3:48 3rd in this analysis, looking into the gap in between by answering questions like "why does the gap exist?", "why close it?". Also set up systems for your desired state, what makes the desired state work. 2) 6:04 Identify the how. Learn the process to get from current state to desired state. You might try a system to help you get there (the video doesn't provide much more info). 3) 6:57 Execute the what. Learn the process to get from current state to desired state but much more detailed. What actionable steps, where make adjustments, and what small incremental changes can you commit to. 4) 8:03 Assess and adjust. Take a step back and make adjustments to the system. Celebrate small wins. Build systems that best suit you. 8:53 If you desired to build deeper relationships with friends, build a system. Leave phone out of sight during meals, listen during conversations, and ask deep meaningful questions. ===== Likes are appreciated so more people can read this.

Your first video on this literally changed my life. I know people say that loosely but I mean it. I saw the first systems, essential, etc video. I watched it 3 times. Then listened to it REPEATEDLY for three days straight. I went out and bought atomic habits and essentialism. And read a section a day. It has truly been a blessing. Also as I move about I consistently mumble “two minute rule” when I try to push off doing an easy task haha my room has STAYED CLEAN! With depression/anxiety keeping a clean room is an accomplishment worth crying over. Either way I am grateful for you. I am always self reflecting/taking on self development. Your video(s) help me pair my self reflection with ACTION. Thank you!!!

I've been taking James Clear's advice and writing down my intended actions, and the time and place in which I will perform them. It seems to be working so far. One thing I've noticed that's crucial for an effective system is to focus on one thing (which Rowena mentions a lot). The moment I give attention to other things time flies and before I know it I've made no progress on what I really want to do. Focusing on one thing is like dancer pose in yoga. In order to maintain your balance in dancer pose, you have to pick one spot on the floor and stare at it, if you look away you lose your balance. EDIT: I want to be 100% honest with everyone here and say that LITERALLY the day after I left the above comment I TOTALLY failed to follow through on the intention I had written down for that day.

Rowena, Using your video today I identified that the current me is a person who is too tired to clean on weekdays, and spends a big chunk of weekends tidying up and secretly hating my family for not helping me (they work on weekends while I'm the only one at home). What you helped me do is the following: 1) I made a list of chores, dispensed them within family members and made a schedule who does what & when. 2) Also I will change my input by doing my best to return things back to their places after I've used them. 3) I will spend 15 min in the a.m. & the p.m. on weekdays, and 30 min in the a.m. & p.m. on weekends to keep the place clean. 4) I'll create a to do list to remind myself of the things I committed to. 5) I realized I might have to get up 15 min earlier. Thank you for your wonderful content. That's a like, a subscribe and a bell. Have a wonderful day!

I've been feeling like a mess lately, feeling that there's so much things to do, yet there's 'nothing' to do. Sounds confusing right?😆 Overall, I'm feeling overwhelmed lately due to the transition of being a postgraduate student to a person looking her first permanent job. And I'm glad you shared with us this system, Rowena. I'm gonna try to re-evaluate my life using the system and hopefully will feel better. 💖

I've been going to therapy for the last years and made significant progress mentally. but I have trouble implementing change in the day to day and it's been frustrating. I’ve been too focused on the smallest of details and so focused on perfection. I have watched you, Lavendaire, and Muchelle B for years and always get great lessons. Now kind of “zooming out” to focus on the long term ways I can still have the life I am excited about while crushing goals. Figuring out what was working and what wasn’t.... I’m actually in awe. I’ve realized that in the previous year I was setting systems ; I was studying while taking care of myself by doing wht I really like and wht makes me feel better ,but now due to the importance of my school year I’ve been watching so much vids to find the best way to get high grades and all the videos were about setting goals ,this wht makes me sad I’ve transformed to a goal setter person for ‘bout 7 months, I set everyday hard goals and promise to myself to take care of my happiness after achieving them, but I’ve realized that I’ve achieved 50% of them but in a vry boring process ; I’ve never enjoyed the process of studying during those months,so I didn’t last long and at the end I gave up my health. But now I’m so grateful to find ur channel ,And I’m making progress in my self care/ studying systems ! Thank u so much for saving us, love ya ❤️💫

Yesterday when I saw the words "keeping a tidy space" I got up off my lazy butt, did my physical therapy, cleaned my room, got ready, and actually finished my list of to-dos for the day plus more. I'm not sure what kind of sorcery you're using but keep it up because I have never been that productive in my life.

I feel blessed right now 🤭💚 Organization, decluttering and having a tidy place is something I am born with. I just can't start my month or year without cleansing and letting go of the things that I don't need or don't use anymore. Honestly my closet and everything that is mine is a symbol of organization as it comes naturally for me. Thank u universe for giving me this amazing strength, that gives me more clarity and a feeling of refreshing 🍀💚

Hi Rowena ✌🏾Just discovered your channel today:) I appreciate how much work you put into your videos. From 2014-2018 I was mostly goal/outcome oriented, and lately have been trying to be more process/system oriented. I’m currently in the process of reading Atomic Habits. Great book. Great work Rowena!

Thanks so much, Rowena! I was waiting for the right time to open this and just had my breakfast and I feel so relaxed on this Sunday morning :) ready to take on the day! "I'm just wondering/thinking/curious" is what I think and say out loud the most to the point where it annoys me and I'm like - can you be LESS curious? Consumption overload is a real struggle I've discovered these past few weeks! 😅

Randomly came across this video yesterday. I never really had goals and so this make more sense to me. I love systems, a systems thinking class during my masters changed my life honestly. I made a list last nigh on how my days were going to look like and today is Day 1 and I already see a major difference. I was already kind of on this path but this video made it seem more tangible and helped me organize my ideas. Thank you!

I think with the toiletries/beauty products I would store it at work. Then shop from work, I need more shower gel, face cream etc, then you bring that home from work as you need it. I also wonder if you bring them home then try them to see if you like it, I would test at work first then only bring home my first choice. You could keep 2 massive plastic no see into boxes with lids under your desk at work to store it all. Great video 😊😊😊
