I'm 13 years old, nobody in my age group that I know has ever heard of this game and I might be the only gen-z on the planet that played it. I've played various other more modern games like fortnite etc. but out of all of them, this was the one I enjoyed the most by far. There is just something about it that no other game has. The music, the world, the characters, everything just works so well. It's a shame this game isn't popular in my age group anymore, it's one of the greatest games ever made.

Well. I am 21 years old. And even in my age group I was one of the few that played Gothic (Because my brothers had it) Gothic was my childhood too. I wanted to say I feel you but then I realized that I am 8 years older even. Now I feel old. But great that you are holding the torch up for the younger generation :D

I'm from the age group "didn't have a computer powerful enough to play it when it launched". But then I was completely immersed in that world for like a year or two. Me and my school friend even noticed that we began to make these awkward hand gestures of NPCs when we talked. :D Then we played a couple of forum-based text RPGs where we pretended to be The Colony's denizens. Those were the times. T_T

When I first entered the camp back then, it felt so alive. Like a real living and breathing place, and I felt somewhat like home and could so easily imagine myself within the game world, living in the camp and go on by daily work. I spend hours and hours inside that camp, even more than on the whole game itself, that it almost feels like a part of me - childhood memories. The music really emphasize all of it. Great, great stuff!

For the last 15 years I have been wondering why I love the nostalgia so much, which the sound of this game brings back to me ... Why is this game so emotionally stuck in my memory? Sometimes I thought it was a matter of plot, sometimes it was a matter of the game world, thanks to which something was happening everywhere, sometimes it was the excitement of not being able to die because my computer was loading the save for 20 minutes, or maybe it was because this game helped for me to calm down after the toe treatment, when I felt terrible pain ... Today I probably understood what it really is! Pay attention to who the nameless person was. He was abandoned, without family, alone in the wild. Must have survived ... Does it remind you of something? We listen to this because this game is an allegory of our childhood. We, who love to listen to the sounds of "Gothic 1 & 2", had a similar childhood. Sick childhood. And this game helped us like no other to escape from what was happening at home. Just take a look at all coments for Gothic soundtrack ... I feel we all have similar story.

I'm sorry to break it to you buddy but I feel the same nostalgia as you and the same atmospheric attraction from this masterpiece but I had a very normal childhood. Though the community feeling all the camps radiate definitely is something any human and especially growing child can cherish.

I just bought myself a sailboat and begin to live here. Candles instead of electric light, open fire cooking, this cozy atmosphere .... and then, THIS Gothic Ambience mix on the smartphone..... just feel like back then, when Gothic was pure, new and intense for me as a child. Thanks for uploading!

I just don't know, it seems to me that the games they make nowadays are boring like hell, they just don't feel real. And I'm not sure if the games are objectively worse (save for technical advancments like graphics, physics etc.) ,but I mean atmosphere, quests, npcs, npc dialogs, story, music. I would really like to know what the current youth thinks on current games nowadays and maybe it's just me but I really do not care about the graphics, if the story is good. just to a few games that come into my mind: Gothic (1,2 maybe 3) NFS Underground 2 Stalker HL1, 2 AOE1, 2 and so on...

But "Herr Mannelig" wasn't made/written by them, it is a Swedish Folk Song which they recorded.

Hätte ich neulich die 90 mio. Euro im EuroLotto gewonnen hätte ich 10-20 mio dafür verwendet das alte Lager in Gemeinschaftsarbeit nachzubauen-. Genug Verwendungsmöglichkeiten gäbe es für Mittelaltermärkte, als Filmset und Reenactmentplatz.

@@anneu3068 in einem halben jahr kommt "History of Khorinis" raus. Spielt kurz vor der Erschaffung der Barriere. Man sieht "das alte Lager" wie es noch eine Paladinfestung war, Khorinis bevor alles den Bach runter ging und eine ganz neue Insel namens Vaduz. Such einfach nach History of Khorinis, es wird großartig!

a true gem from my childhood...the remarkable "Ruhrpott-Rollenspiel" with it's unique and authentic atmosphere - it will always have a special place in my heart. And of course ....every year a new playthrough for my nostalgic memories :)

For the context: i live in a small village, nearest neighbour is like 600 meters away from my home, and i have a nice fire place made on my plot. I remember when me and my friends decided to meet, and i proposed to meet at my place, so we could grill some sausages and other stuff, just like barbecue i think. When it Got dark, around 11 pm, i played this music on a jbl. My friends know what gothic is, but they never played it. They thought that i am mentally ill or something, but after 2 minutes we were all just sitting, looking at fire and just listening to this music. When it ended i asked if someone has any music that wants to play, and they all agreed to play it again. We ended up listening to this Masterpiece for 5 hours straight, one of the most beautiful moments in my life.

Gothic 1 and witcher 3 are the best rpgs for me, they also share the same voice actor that voices the protagonist's mentor..yup Diego and Vesemir is voiced by the same dude.

Ehm, I am not sure Diego is your mentor. That would be Xardas, he is the one guiding you to find that special armor, to fuel Uriziel and to break the prison. Diego is more like, your best friend (and savior, 2 times actually !) when none wants to be your friend. And in Gothic 2, it's even more obvious that Xardas fills the role of mentor.

@@Wotanson56 Yea but, being a mentor doesn't necessarily include being a friend as well. As for his motives, he does help you & the world around ; but at the same time you learn towards the end of the game (both) that you helped him more with his goals, and that his intentions are not "pure" as in helping the people and being philanthropic. He cares for himself. So he does the right thing, but for the wrong motives, if it makes any sense. 1st game, to escape the damn barrier, and thus everybody gets out, not just you and him. 2nd game, to destroy the Beliar's Champion, the undead dragon, which threatened everybody ; but at the same, to suck his powers for himself. You are his gateway for his goals ; but at the same time he does help you in your quests, points you where to go and what to do - in your interest as well. At the end of Gothic 2 he foresees a future, where the champion of both Innos & Beliar will have to fight, so that means you and him will have a showdown in the future. Only in Gothic 3 he reveals the charade, and tells you that he found another way (other than, fighting each other for each one's god) where if you follow his advice (again) he will end the war of the gods, for the best of everybody. I think this is also the canonical ending for Gothic 3. (and ALL gothics, since I don't buy the Forsaken Gods bullshit and Arcania, bleah !) As for Diego, I don't know...he has a big role in Gothic 1, but in Gothic 2 he is mostly absent. I only remember him in chapter 3 and 5, giving you some errand quests. You find him in chapter 2 first, in the Valley of Mines and you help him escape with an escort mission ; but you can miss that if you are a really new player or don't pay attention to details - I often did, in my first playthroughs. His role in Gothic 2 was very minor, that's why I can't rank him as mentor. But yea...the way I would put it : - Diego, Gorn, Lester, Milten are your best friends (they are also the ones who help you with the focus-stones) - Lares, Cor Angar, Lee are your "lesser-friends" (they help you ocasionally, but they don't care that much for you) (you might include Thorus here, but it's debatable if he is a minor friend to you or not) - Xardas as your mentor, guiding your journey What do you think about this ? :)
