I believe the way to turn your obstacles into an opportunity is by 1. Realising that you can't change your situation/circumstance (factors out of your control), but you can change how YOU react to it and 2. by Applying a Blue Ocean Strategy mind set. Create/do something that was thought of as being impossible at this point in time.

Large oversimplification. Now when the world is protesting against injustice, inequality and other systemic harm, adopting stoic approach would be of great help to an unjust system. If your boss is exploiting you, if you experience racism or other form of harassment or harm, saying "all is good", "accept your fate" or "fighting is futile" is the worse advice you can give. Or is it?? You decide. But, perhaps sticking to Dylan Thomas' "rage" is a better way to deal with non-accidental, human-designed 'obstacles' or forms of 'abuse'?

With regards to opportunity of the labour force, the narrator's comments are incorrectly co-mingling the notion of an economic “depression” with that of an economic “recession”. These are entirely different economic passages and the labour force for obtaining preferred talent (best workers) responds very differently. Furthermore, the free marketplace is historically influenced by government programs that can make matters either better or much worse (e.g., the depression of the 1930’s). However, the narrator's view about finding and exploiting opportunity out of what seems to be chaos is ‘bang-on’, since greater energy comes from the crest of a falling wave and not the top of a still lake… meaning that where there is uncertainty or volatility, there is great opportunity. Surfers seek a high wave to exploit and harness the motion and speed of turbulent water, as opposed to those who prefer to canoe a calm lake. In fact, there is opportunity in both movement and in stillness. One has to change their own perspective of how to seek-out the appropriate set of opportunities within the context of the existing circumstances. So-called bad times are not bad, as such, as they are simply a change from the previous status quo. Bootleggers found an opportunity to make a fortune during the “depression” -and- *legalized* alcohol sales increased during a “recession”. Essentially the same product is being sold under very different economic situations, but it was the ‘context’ of *legality* that changed the nature of the respective supply & demand curve. Again, it’s about recognizing that opportunity exists in *all* circumstances.
