You'll watch an entire Netflix show even when the first episodes are slow and boring just because someone told you "it gets better." *But what if you looked at your goals like that and watched your life get better instead?*

I got one better for you Khan; You’ll watch a show for one hour, once a week and know everything about what’s happening over the course of 12 weeks. And we do that with multiples of shows and multiple swipes on social media. Imagine if we found the ability to put that same one hour per day into our goals. I did. I had more upward mobility over the past twelve years than I had the previous twelve. Some of us would become omnipotent.

Same, but to me it's video games. You get addicted to a video game because you want to know the story, when it's just dopamine. You're spending hours leveling up your non-existent character when you could be leveling up yourself!
"I never met a challenge I didn't fall in love with". This is a quote I heard on military SF podcast that really made an impact on the way I approach things now. Also, another understanding of stressors "a tree only grows strong by blowing in the wind, it's many growth rings tell its story of what it's been through". This paradigm of thinking and taking ACTION and not living in fear - taking incremental improvements each day, while not worrying about perfection - and being of service. These are things that have changed my life. Love your books!
The too long didnt listen version of this video: Ryan Holiday is a fucking genius and this book will help every aspect of your life. This is not a paid advertisement, just a true testament.
“Things are never going to be perfect, never going to be ideal, never going to be truly fair. You have to work with what you can, do what you can with what you’ve got, and then turn it into what you want to have.”

I've been battling addiction for most of my life (58 yrs old) I came across your videos and quite simply it has changed my life. I no longer have this "poor me" attitude, rather I now view my addiction as a learning tool. My addiction is something that happens, and happened the way the way it happened. It's just another obstacle, out of the many life deals you that has become fuel for my potential. Memento Mori!

Do yourself a favor and go to a mental health professional (or therapist) to figure out why you feel like sht so often that you have to use. Of course there's the feeling like sht because you're using, but I'm talking deeper than that. I'm talking about how you probably feel like sht more often than you don't on some fundamental level, and they can help with getting you to feel way less like sht than ya do. Also, Naltrexone is amazing, don't suffer if you don't have to. Source: I'm 13+years clean and sober, I walked my talk.

There’s a quote from Edison. There are several versions and it may be apocryphal but it’s a pretty good quote anyway. Before he came up with a filament that would work an associate told him that it was a shame that he had wasted so much effort fruitlessly. “No results? Why man, I have gotten a lot of results! I know several thousand things that won’t work.”

"We can turn the worst thing that ever happened to us into a spring board to who we want to be" My mom lost a battle to cancer about 3 years ago now. I always mentally hated the idea of that tragedy being some kind of catalyst for change because it felt wrong. This is some of the positive affirmation we all need sometimes. Brought some clarity. Very nicely done. Obstacles are the way, the truth and the life. I have been a Trial and Error guy all of my life. I see obstacles as the OPPORTUNITY to figure shit out. Just today, I COMPLETED 3 different difficult projects. All of my initial attempts to overcome these obstacles failed. My PERSISTENCE paid off . Most people never try because they do not have... You gave our coach. Coach Shadeed a box full for our football team. I still have it. Thank you.
I discovered this book when I was not in a good situation in my job, but after reading this book I was able to turn the opportunity to improve my condition. forever grateful for reading this book, and drawing me closer to stoicism.
I got the book and i have read it countless times. Brillant one.
These are amazing life's lessons. learning to face adversity in your life and turning it into an opportunity to become better and thrive.
An author who knew he had written a great book did not give up after being rejected by publishers and sent it to 121 of them before it was published. That book is called Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values by Robert M. Pirsig first published in 1974. It has sold more than 5 million copies around the world.
The Conflict is the Way. Every learning is a conflict: stay concentrated (feel the whole), remain relaxed (no inner conflict), stay focused (see what others do not, you will cross the chasm of your external conditioning). A conflict reminds us of a learning that needs to take place in both us and others but it is never about aggression (pain of growth) either in us or others. A conflict is a story in search of a path to a resolution. A conflict stimulates change, growth, innovation ie a blessing in disguise. The trick is to pause often, focus on learning and the unity of self. We move from feeling disconnected, to addressing biggest constraints, to progress, to dealing with inner traumas, to joy and to a profound knowledge/flow.
I try to be the person for others that I needed when I was younger. Our experiences are so much more valuable than damaging. Perspective is paramount.
Just arrived today, look forward to reading, absorbing and benefiting from the challenge to change.
Sometimes the worst things in your life can turn into the best thing that happens to you
Some of us were Stoics all our lives. Adversity offers strength. We become the Iconostasis.
Can anyone even IMAGINE calling son and mother to come watch the flames!!!!! This is SICK. I am living in Maui.
I listen to you every day. One big BUT .... SO MANY SOLDIERS SO MANY WAR SITUATIONS. I am sure that are many MANY samples of stoicism in other situations through the centuries. MY HUMBLE OPINION. THANKS

Where I thought opportunities were diminishing in life, you have shown me that every conscious moment is an opportunity to grow and learn and contribute. I've only recently found these videos, just wanted to say thank you - was going through some personal relationship stresses and found I was unable to handle the pain and hopelessness it created. These videos are helping me work through that and move through it. I've been gyming and walking everyday, my weight is coming down and I feel so much better. I've just ordered 3 of your books "The Obstacle is the Way, Grit: Why passion and resilience are the secrets to success, Drive The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us" and I can't wait to get stuck in. Im using these personal experiences as a lesson and way for me to grow as a person. Thank you again and I look forward to going through more of your content.

I was asked to compete against a young 18 year old weightlifter Judoka when I was 35 years old. There was a 9 weight class (9 lbs/level-class) difference between us and it was considered an impossibility to even try (I was the light weight). After we bowed in for the match he backed up and said to the referee, "He's not afraid of me." The referee replied, "No, he is not." Fear is controllable from a number of perspectives and takes practice to have the ability to deal with your fear.
Wow… this was amazing! Perseverance and belief! Thank you Ryan, time to order the book!
