It's a lot cheaper than a Serek, sounds pretty cool, that's a bridge pickup in the Music man position almost. This is definitely no jazz bass, but it has that vintage swampy thunk. The pickups are huge and they give you a good platform for fingerstyle bass, if you didn't use a pick.

Okay, this thing is totally on my radar now! I've long wanted a bass with this kind of sound, and it definitely delivers, only I think I'd probably put flatwounds (or at least "groundwounds") on it right away! As for the video, it's good! My only gentle criticisms would be to express disappointment that a) we didn't get to hear anything in-between tone all the way up and tone all the way down. I almost never mind/max my tone knobs, so I'm almost never gonna use those settings (though I will say that based on this, I'll probably usually keep the tone below 50 when I'm playing neck, and above 50 when playing bridge), and b) we didn't get to hear how slap tones sounded. I get it, not really the kind of bass for slap, but I'll bet it'd sound really unique and interesting! Apart from those quibbles, it's a great video for a great budget bass that I'm really feeling I need to pick up someday! So, thank you very much, and cheers!

I love it! I just want to crank up both pickups and play every Cream song I know, then roll off the neck pickup and see what the bridge pickup sounds like through a phaser pedal. It's got several inspiring sounds and looks cool too.

Danny: Great bass playing as always. You said the sound of TB Pro bridge pickup is why you got this bass. I feel the same way. Remove the Bass Sidewinder from neck position and use pickguard to cover cavity and move the bridge pickup to middle position. Would eliminate the problems when using a pick. Remove blend knob and move output jack to end position with tone control in middle position. Put a HipShot 2 point supertone bridge and you would have a simple thunderbird sounding short scale bass. What do you think?

Just got my yellow newport today Danny! 'King awesome, great range of tones, I do like the neck mudbucker, but that tb bridge pickup..WOW! Pack's a punch, and the neck is so fun to get around, just begs to be played. Going to try different strings on it tomorrow, and just need a bridge or rod tweak to stop a bit of buzz. Its great for that punk vibe with a pick or a classic 60s/70s thump. It makes me feel like this is what the Gibson EB3 re issue, the SG, should really sound like after owning and gigging wuth one of those in the mid 2000's. Is this the gibson junior double cut bass on a budget?...dunno as not played the DC, but am thinking so. LOVE IT!!❤❤❤

How strange. You're 100% right, there's official images on Epi's site as well as news preview articles that show the bridge pickup about 1 finger-width from the bridge. The actual retail product has it about 2 finger-widths from the bridge (as yours is). Never really seen that before. P.S. I'd love to mod this with a 3-position pickup toggle knob/switch with a chicken-head knob. I just feel like it needs a chickenhead pickup selector. :)

I couldn't do many slap techniques, with a neck pickup all up against the fretboard like that, It sits right in the way of a slap/pop. I would have to slap in between those pickups, it would sound different too.

I almost bought the Epiphone Embassy when they came out 2 years ago but ended up getting a 2021 Mexican Fender P bass even though I have a 73 and 91Fender Jazzs and a 82 P and Iike the 21 P, I wanted to buy myself a brand new bass because have not bought new in years. I am not big on the Epiphone's, I got a 2017 SG bass that I bought a couple of years ago from a friend in mint condition for less then half of what he paid brand new, he was getting a New Gibson SG short scale. I played the bass and it played well but did not really put it threw its paces and the electronics really suck. I have a 66 EB-0 and always wanted an old EB-3 and thought if the Epiphone was half the bass my EB-0 was I would be happy, but far from it. Now I want Epiphone to make good basses even if it costs a couple of hundred more. I like the looks of the Newport like I liked the look of the Embassy especially the green one, I am going to have to find a store that Has one so I can play it myself. I guess at the price of the new Newport I should not get my hopes up.

I wonder if you can get these and the Epiphone Wiltshire (or whatever it's called as there are different names for the different pickup types I seem to think)? I remember trying an Epiphone Thunderbird (or was it the SG bass? It was a few years back) and it was shite. Maybe I was expecting it to feel and sound different, but it just felt like too much money for what it was. I tried a Gibson double-cut bass and it was great, although the one I tried may have had a twisted neck or something dodgy (hence the reduced price).

I began playing bass around 2005 with an Epiphone EB-0. My worst bass by far. I had the chance to play with newer Epiphones (Thunderbird, Embassy) and they are far better. I love the sound of this one, but I would have loved an SG-shaped bass with these pickups and headstock.

I'm with you on the relics...it's just insane to destroy new gear like that. I'd like to hear this bass with flat wounds, just something magic about that combo. All the classic rock or motown bass lines from the 60s were recorded with a SS bass and flats, back in the day when basses had bass tone, and bass players didn't all want to play lead and 'cut through' the mix.
