In this Apple Vision Pro review we discuss how incredible this product is while it also falls short in almost every use case. That being said, this is the future of computing and we hope that Apple doesn't discontinue the Apple Vision Pro.

Yep, every single review I've seen after someone's used it for like a week or two or a month is that it's amazing tech, but they are going to return it because they see no actual use for it. Just get a quest 3 for 500 bucks and have some actual fun. Because the whole virtual monitor thing still works on the quest 3. It's sharper and more usable than my valve index from what, 4 years ago? Pass through isn't completely perfect but you forget the glitches about it after a while. And it's a $500 device? Like, that's a 3rd the cost of a iPhone pro max?

I’m 62 YO, so, take this as my long term perspective. The Apple vision pro is like the very first cellphone I ever saw. This thing was like a lunchbox with a telephone grip perched on top of it. The thing was bulky, expensive and barely worked. Fast forward 40 years, and I’ve literally got the world in my hand when I hold an iPhone. The AVP, or its successor, will someday be awesome, just not now.

Except unlike that cellphone you described, the VISION PRO works phenomenally well. Especially since I have been using it almost everyday for well over a month NOW. It is essentially like using an iPhone or iPad in three dimensional space instead of being limited by a two dimensional screen. You literally have to begin to think differently about how you interface with computing. Like the difference between interacting with a typical iMac versus the touchscreen of an iPad. A better analogy would be like that seen in Back to the Future when Marty takes that kids apple crate kick scooter and turns it into a skateboard. Or when he plays the guitar at the dance in a way the musicians of the 1950’s did not realize was possible… Few are pioneers, while most are tourists only after the they are shown the way... 🤔

Ironically what feels premature are the opinion of those who think it is a premature release, especially from those with limited to ZERO experience with VISION PRO… We began saving for this device since it was announced last year during WWDC. It is by far the most revolutionary and enjoyable technology we have bought in years, If not decades. Everyday I use the VP it feels like a new adventure, as there are many things to discover and explore each time I use it. After a month of using VP it hardly feels cumbersome… I am NOT a typical gamer by any measure, and was NOT our primary motivation. VisionOS is basically an evolution of IOS/ iPadOS, it is essentially an advance iPad Pro with a whole new dynamic interface reimagined… TWO weeks is NOT enough… 🤔

I can see why Apples old lead designer (Ives) said he had doubts about Vision Pro and making a product that is to isolating. Those in the Apple world have been starved of most all VR/AR/XR development over the last 10 years so I can see why there is a lot of hype for their first really supported headset. When it comes to VR marketing people have always said "queezy is a hard sell". ;-)

I didn't experience some of the comfort issues mentioned by Lee with the Vision Pro, perhaps because I use a CPAP face mask for sleep or have a strong neck. I don't face eye strain or pixel visibility issues, as I've been wearing contacts and glasses for most of my life. However, we can collectively acknowledge that the Vision Pro is a stepping stone towards a better iteration. One significant reason for returns is social media influencers acquiring it for clout and then returning it. Apple's marketing strategy, emphasizing high prices and low inventory, targets early adopters, developers, and collectors.

The ski goggles experience you had reveals a lot about why the Apple Vision Pro isn't yet ready for the mainstream. Ski goggles, while "socially acceptable", are still ugly. But they're functional for the task at hand, protecting your eyes from the snowy elements. If we wore ski goggles on a train or jet, however, it'd still be weird. But on a ski slope, they're pretty much essential. The Apple Vision Pro is targeting itself as a mainstream computing device. But while there are some amazing moments to be had, there's little the AVP can do that can't be done more easily, inexpensively and conveniently with other things. It's not ready to replace a laptop, a smartphone, or a tablet. Doesn't mean it won't be in the future. It's just not now. People like to compare this to the iPhone saying the AVP is going to revolutionize everything. I think the better comparison is to the original 1984 Macintosh. It was a product full of wonderful "new" stuff that was also overpriced ($2499 in 1984 dollars) and not that useful at the time. It was, however, clearly a glimpse of the future that hindsight has proven true. But how many things had to be invented or improved before "the future" became our normal? Was the Macintosh essential in 1984? Nope. Not yet. Is the AVP essential now? Nope. Not yet.

Anyone who’s going to purchase something like this should put some thought into it before they invest the money just about every tech review on here has got the device used it for two weeks and then returned it and then they’ve advised everyone not to buy it, Apple should change their return policy for the tech reviewers

Ah, yes. As soon as this came out I was expecting it to become the most bought-and-returned Apple product, simply because there isn’t yet enough to do, and no “killer app” that makes it worth the price. Apple must also have known this would be the case, so maybe some of that high price tag anticipates it. As a developer I considered investing in the Vision Pro, but it’s not clear that the marketplace for my app(s) would be large enough to justify the time and effort it will take to get skilled enough with Swift. And as a developer, I feel like there ought to be an inexpensive developer kit. Making the developer pay the same premium as the end user is not the way to get developers. When the price drops below $2000 then I’ll consider buying (and not returning) a Vision Pro. Meanwhile, if I do come up with some killer app idea, I’ll look at the Quest Pro to build and test the prototype, then rewrite and enhance it for the VP in the future.

Other than that, there is not much to it. 1st, I wouldn't want to use it as another work device because i already have 3 monitors to do that for me. 2nd, Vr headsets will get heavy on you since due to the battery and headset. 3rd, you will sweat in it even when you are not playing video games. And 4th, there really isn't much else you can do with it. I wouldnt watch movies or do meeting or anything with a VR headset. Overall, its an expensive toy to own and for people who have money, go right ahead and get one.

The future isn't some obscuring, obnoxious headset that you wear for hours-long immersion. It's going to be something more like eye glasses or something see-through and holographic only to the wearer. Something that addresses a need, not just seems fun to use for awhile then collects dust. Do we really needs to multitask 10 things while we are away from our desk (or at it). They keep saying this tech just needs more time to bake, but tech companies have been trying to get mass adoption of AR/VR for 30 years. It's not going to be anything more than a niche thing for bros to talk about on review channels. We suffer from a failure of imagination, the next big thing will overcome why these headsets have yet to become mainstream.

I think the bigger issue is that people are buying this like a toy, then trying to find something to make it entertaining or useful. Technology SHOULD be approached from the opposite perspective: what is the problem that this technology solves? There are plenty (and I really do mean PLENTY) of problems for which the Apple Vision Pro provides a potential solution (with the right software, of course). Ultimately, people are buying a tool as a toy then wondering why it gets boring quickly.

See, you gave one great example at 08:45... for photographers and videographers! Interference-free image monitoring is an absolutely perfect example real-world use-case for this product... and one for which I would personally love to use it. Having a supremely HDR and high-resolution preview (in my field of vision) while composing and taking shots... that would be an absolute dream, and since I already look super goofy on inline skates carrying multiple cameras around cities, one extra goofy device on my face wouldn't bother me at all.

I see things on the street that from my point of view are away away too crazy, and not quite sure why a guy wearing a peace of tech have to be classed as weird. I would imagine this is how people must have reacted to the first ever headsets? Anyway, not in a thousand years, not in a hundred years, not even in 10 years but in a few years I believe this will become pretty normal. Funny, returning it but encouraging Apple to stick to it. I would think the business model is not to continue working on "the most returned product" in company history. To return something because it bores you is not an honorable condition. If it works and it does what they told you it would do for the reasons you bought it, then you keep it. All you've done here is lose credibility. Me, it's a heavy price tag and so I wait for version 2 or 3 to make sure they get all the bugs out and build a bigger list of third party apps.

Apple is NOT looking to sell it to gamers. Gamers are fickle, and complain a lot. You can NEVER give a gamer what they want and they'll bad mouth you EVERY chance they get. So why would Apple want that bad press. Apple see's this as a computing platform, NOT a VR gaming platform. Not sure why all reviewers think the gaming thing is important. It's not. Buy something that's MADE for gaming. I get your points, but this whole thing is really beta testing with developers. I get it. I'm fine with it.
