I’ve had several pitties and I’ve always gotten them from a rescue. My current one is super friendly but I never walk my dogs off leash. I’ve been bit 4 times, one requiring surgery, and it was actually my Great Pyrenees mix that did it. My current shepard mix is my problem child when walking. But the pit will snap if someone lunges at me. They’re a working breed, they need to get their energy out in a healthy way.

I'm not pro or against pits but like the girl said...I agree we should have special licenses for ownership along with training and such

ALSO - with any dog getting them as a baby / puppy plays a key role in how strongly they bond with you (from my lived experience ) I have had 7 dogs... 3 labs 1 heeler 2 lab pit mixes and 1 pit. I have two main take aways - learn how to side submit your dog properly, especially with male dogs. period. treats and praise only go so far. you have to be top dog. If you are top dog your dog will look to YOU for how to respond to a kid/cat/person etc. 2nd - my last few male dogs are intact. They are SO much easier to train. Think of it like this - some kids are terrible as toddlers but are great once they hit like nine/ten. same temperament for dogs. some dogs just suck puppies. They are stubborn, chew everything, and are hyper. It will pass but stunting them hormonally in that state seems to prolong the process. Wait to neuter/spay as long as possible if you can handle the responsibility - in other countries, it's not as uncommon a thing as in the US. why? well idk the vets make a TON of $$ off nueters and spays from dedicated owners. Very USA to make a social stigma profitable. Be responsible for your animal but that's just my lived experience. I also think it is super hard to bond with dogs ages 1-3 years from the shelter if you go just to get "a dog" and not YOUR dog as in it kinda chooses you. They often have had to survive on their own for a while and therefore are way more independent. It's a challenge. training is NEEEDED. - AGAIN in my lived experience I had a friend's family member get bit by her OWN GOLDEN RETRIEVERS and then go to the hospital for stitches - she lied on the bite report saying it was a stray pit. Cases like this horribly skew the statistics and create a bad name. Personally the most violent or untrusting dogs I've been around are german shepherds an even more intense breed in my opinion. Pits are powerful dedicated animals. My pit is the best dog out of all 7 I have ever had. I trust him fully - but I don't trust other random dogs or people who have no control of their animals. Pits also seem to have two fear stages instead of one as a puppy. Fear makes any animal highly reactive so a TON of socialization and play is needed to build your pits confidence and their trust in you. I also think inbreeding is an issue with pits and bully's or bully xl's. just like any other breed it results in an inferior dog. Videos like this truly erk me bc a dog is only as good as it's owner. Some people are incredibly stupid and bring totally untrained or out of control animals out in public or even to the dog park. Don't be that person. Adopt don't shop

My pitbull is my legitimate emotional support animal. I’m also a 30 year old disabled veteran. That being said, Freyja is 2 and 70lbs of pure muscle. Not many people could hold on if she decided to run. So, no… sorry, you can’t walk my dog. Not without me. Since I am truly and solely the ONLY person she listens to. I’m sorry, but not sorry, I love my dog, but she’s a pitbull not a Labrador. There IS a difference.

Pits get their bad rap because there are so many of them, and they are capable of serious harm. If chihuahuas were as big as pits they would prob be #1 on that same list. It's the most common attack dog, so of course it's going to be the cause of the most deaths, and with its popularity in bad neighborhoods.
