I hate it for Van Aert he's been close way too many times and hasn't won a race in 2 years, It would be nice if he gets 1 stage win this year in the Tour. I did not like Van Aert back in 2020 but since my favorite Sprinter Peter Sagan retired I look forward to watching Wout go for the win any chance he's got if Phillipsen wasn't up front today at the end Van Aert would have won easily with his sprint. 😞🦋🦋
@user-cx2bk6pm2f
25 күн бұрын
I think Van Aert is his own worst enemy. If he had greater awareness, he would win more. For example here in stage 13, he was not aware of Philipsen until after he passed; if WVA started his sprint 1 second sooner he would have won. Let's not forget when WVA started celebrating too early. I forgot which race, but he sat up thinking he won, then lost to a bike throw. That's just idiotic lack of awareness and nobody's fault but his own. I love Wout though and wish him more success.

@@secretagent86 he cant back off, if he would have hit the brakes he would have caused a crash that way and even took out his sprinter de Lie. I do agree on Chris saying there was nothing else he could have done. tho i do think Capiot is at fault, why does he look to the right over his shoulder when drifting to the left? anyways this is a classic case of someone doing the leadout and then backing of in a dangerous way, the same that happened to Cavendish where he also got the DQ.

You know you have been critical of Tadej’s and his teams tactics but Tadej is aggressive and fans love it. So much better than previous years where US Postal and Sky had by far the best teams and shut down every and all attacks, whereupon many times the tour was over after team time trials those years they had them or after one day in the mountains. Love that Tadej already has 13 stage wins. Not many TDF winners can say that. Ask NBC for some video. They owe it to you bc you are sorely missed over there.

Knuckleheads of the race: 1. Lotto for burning everyone before the sprint, causing him to be blocked by a crash and not even able to open his sprint as he only had 1 h lead out rider trying to position him. 2. UnoX for not managing Abrahanson already. It was cute at first, looking at him trying out his new legs - I mean entire body - but he needs to but those balls away and start racing intelligently to pick up a win. He can do it! 3. All the teams not looking to IWG to pull. How are they getting away with it? If binay would have beat Philpson in the sprint, it would have been an embarrassment as they are not pulling all stage until the sprint lead out.
MY MAN VIC!

Good question and one that I should have talked about in the video but the video was already 23 mins 😜. With the group of 22 riders it was very possible that the time gap could go out very quickly to ten minutes if Visma didn’t start chasing right away. Just think of stage 6 of the ‘23 Vuelta and how Sepp Kuss gained his time in the other GC riders. 🤔👊🦋
After seeing today's race, I know why Tadej was sprinting along like a mad man there

On the rest maybe. Depending what’s happening between now and then. Hard to fit into a normal stage coverage because the racing shows 200k plus coverage. 👍🦋
It made no sense why visma , quickstep and UAE were all pulling so hard in the crosswinds when all the GC leaders made the split. Huge waste of energy. Also, Yates staying in the break was so irritating. Only 2/13 stages (the first 2) were won by the break and 8/13 were bunch sprints. Whatever tho, all these GC teams have spent a ton of energy today such that I hope tomorrow things will be more interesting with both a break and a GC battle.

Chris, why does Wout always have good legs on sprint stages (that he has a chance to win) but a bad day when Jonas needs him (like Stage 14)? What is up with that? If he can’t do both then surely GC support should be his priority, not the sprints.
I think breakaway makes it today as last climb is not long enough to make a difference. Hindley or Billy Carapaz I say. And tomorrow Visma circles the day and throws a kitchen sink at Pogi.
No knuckleheads today.
Van Gils gambled on the late surge and he knew the risk of that strategy is getting caught in traffic. You have to know that leadout riders are going to pull off and drift to the open side. Van Gils surely knows that.
@counselor5286

the leadout dropped nearly straight down the center. There were no lanes to the outside at the end of this stage He went from pedaling at near 40 mph to 20 or less in 50 meters. I think the overall quality of the sprinters this year is quite low compared to what we've seen in recent years. There just seems to be a very small number of sprinters that are actually competitive.
In my book, in every crash, someone is at fault. It may be unintentional, it may be within the rules, but someone has caused it. Can of course be a spectator or a mechanical fault.

Either way TP expended useful energy sprinting in with the group (you could almost read his mind weighing up sprinting and fancying his chances!🤣) While JV and RE soft peddled in.
