Between the abandons, crashes & knuckleheads in the sprint, this stage was just dreadful. The only saving grace is that Girmay is a stand up guy who just radiates positivity. I can't stay mad.

I know his positioning wasnt great but damn the chaos always finds him in the tdf. A fan with a sign. A moto hitting a bail on the road. A guy crashing on the otherside of the road with a concrete divider and goes right into Rogs side of the road. Ut just always finds him.

@@ChrisHornerCyclingI am upset to see Roglic go down today. Throughout the tour I have rarely seen any of his team mates, what are they doing all day? Also, why is Redbull Bora Hansgrohe not at the front? Is it because they are not as strong and cant stay up there? Or that they dont need to be because they are lower on classification?

I truly miss Chris being on the NBC show to give his outstanding analysis of all aspects of cycle racing. I loved when he and Christian were on the show together and would often differ in opinion, both giving excellent takes on how they see things. I used to always look forward to those pre and post race segments. Alas Chris moved on and Christian went motorcycling. I am however very happy however to be able to tune into the Butterfly Effect and get Chris's fantastic post race break downs. Thank you as always Chris.

Plus while it is somewhat exciting to see him have a go, I am not sure how significant it is in terms of getting contracts? He is going off to breakaways that are doomed to be caught and in the high mountains he is understandably dropped. Have you seen the profiles of the Olympics and Worlds this year ?? With all respect for what Abrahamsen does this Tour, but these parcourses are not made for him... The Olympics will be won by a Alaphilippe, van der Poel kind of guy and the Worlds by a pure climber..... Abrahamsen does grab with both hands the free publicity he can get in stages where nobody else does even want to go in the breakaway, let's not pretend that he's all of the sudden become a world class rider... He spends energy where others (Not even the smallest participating teams) don't want to waste their breath.... I love it tbh.... But we all know that he will gain shit from it... The polka dot jersey will in the end be won by a pure climber, and Abrahamsen will not even be in the top five of that ranking... All the big mountains still have to come, and on a number of them the same amount of points can be won, that Abrahamsen did earn in twelve days. Neither (Although I do hope that he can prove me wrong) is he gonna win a stage..... Thus the only thing he does is grabbing points that nobody cares about anyway. And let me say again that I love it, we need more guys like him !! But bringing a 80 kilo guy (Abrahamsen) to the Olympics for Norway, while they have riders that are better suited for that kind of parcours.... 🤔 And since Norway can take only two guys to the Olympic road race (Waerenskjold and Johannessen probably) there is no room for Abrahamsen.... But we'll see..... Maybe that they will give him a selection for the Worlds, but that title is going to the pure climbers/puncheurs. With this and next season we will have two World Championships that are tailor made for the climbers. Certainly next year when we will have almost 6 thousand meter of elevation at the first World Championship ever in Africa. (This years edition is in Switzerland, environment Zürich where we used to have a great classic in the past. The Zürich Metzgete.. A classic that was always won by climbers or super, super strong puncheurs like Bettini, Di Luca etc etc etc. )

Is it that he's subconsciously repeatedly acting out his PTSD from the downhill ski crash, or is it because he didn't get chance to learn race-craft when it's easiest to learn i.e. when we was young still and still growing up.... two possibilities or a bit of both. such a great athlete, an unfortunate achilles heel (and painful!). Hope he makes it to Nice. Hopefully in top 10.

😜 Every rule as I have said before can be broken. If they know when to break it, and exactly how to break. If they don’t know, then it’s much easier to just not break it and bring Pogi into the finish to grab bonus seconds and win the stage. But remember uAE were already officially breaking the #1 rule when Pogi attacked and his teammates still had more left. So they broke rule #1 anyways, UAE just didn’t break it correctly. 😂🤔🦋👊😂😂😂😂😂😂#1🦋

I thought there was an unwritten rule about holding the peloton to a pace where riders can catch up after a crash? I remember Movistar being criticized for attacking after Roglic crashed in the Vuelta a few years back. It’s a shame that the peloton didn’t give the riders impacted by the crash the same courtesy today. I always viewed Roglic as a longshot for GC, but it is a shame to see any GC contender lose time this way.

I'm a big Roglic's fan, but unfortunately everything was ok. They actually didn't push as much for first few kilometers and Roglic stayed at around 1:15 for a while. If Roglic was fine, he'd get close or in the peloton during this time, but it was seen he slowed down his team cause he couldn't keep the pace up. At around 7km to go the race just blew up and it is all good. There is no way for peloton to completely wait for 4th in the GC, I think even yellow jersey wouldn't be wait for in the same position.

Team Visma crash-a-bike is doing an heroic job of keeping good team cohesion in spite of all the 'bad luck'. My pre-race predictions in terms of individual riders was way off but my assessment of the team collective is proving right- Team Visma works well collectively, UAE is slightly dysfunctional with too many chefs in the kitchen or too many chiefs, not enough Indians, whatever metaphor you want to use... Bora is good team for Roglic on paper but too thin, and Soudal is kind of hopeless, but I guess when you have balls the size of RE, who needs a team? At any rate there is enough strength in that UAE squad, and enough strength in TP that they can overcome a dysfunctional team dynamic. This year.

I lined up for a criterium in super week one year. It was like a 60 mile criterium. Anyway at the starting line I was talking to this one guy and it was pretty friendly and the race went on. In the middle of the race I saw him go down hard. Felt kind of bad, but it happens. Super week was the month of racing with two races a day and you could race all over Wisconsin. So I saw this guy the next day, at the start line, and he was all cut up and we were talking and I was saying wow dude you went down that's too bad because he had his bandages. Well, he crashes again. The third day he rolls up to me at the start line he's like hey what's going on and I just moved to the other side of the peloton because I didn't want to be next to him. Sure enough he crashed again and again. Four times he had crashes. I didn't crash much in my bike racing career because I was very good at not crashing. But some guys just can't stay off the ground. I watch primos lead the peloton around a corner and he just rode right off the course into that dirt patch where he went down couple days ago. Damn buddy keep it the rubber side down.

I agree it could help Pogi if UAE would be a bit more savvy in their tactics. But I doubt that either the car or Pogi are able to think of anything other than the big balls tactics. Also, by now it is quite clear that Yates, Almeida and Ayuso are not a real threat to Jonas, they will loose minutes every time Jonas and Pogi go seriously on a climb. So they will only finish ahead of Jonas if he collapses. Visma are smart enough to understand that they do not have to panic when any of these guys attacks.
