Um, So is the rest of kpop, tf? Bts is in a whole other league than the rest of the industry, but kpop in general has a large age range too😅 (it's just that there ARE some groups or soloists that have a more targeted range, but in general kpop is multi generational). They are different from kpop for several reasons, however the age range of their fanbase is not one of them; that's just what differentiates them from "typical boyband", not kpop.

Cuz no one’s fan base as a whole compares! There’s more 25+ fans all the way to 40-60 than “kids.” I also think the reason for this is BTS themselves are not as young as you might think they are. Jin is the oldest at 29 (30 in korean age) and the youngest, Jungkook is 24. I’m 30 myself so technically a lot of these people who are now in their mid 20’s-30’s probably “grew up” listening to BTS especially in their late teens/early 20’s. Especially long time fans ! :)

Your comments on how Black hip hop culture had an influence on kpop are spot on. South Korea has a very interesting history because they only started thriving as a democracy around the 1980s. Kpop started with Seo Taiji and the Boys in 1992 and their direct influence was from hip hop in America at the time when they got tv access. Over the years the future generations of kpop groups continued to be influenced by it including the 3rd generation which included BTS. The first few BTS albums were heavily hip hop influenced (if you look at their tweets since 2013 they’ve recommended songs by american hip hop/rap artists to their korean fans) and in every album since they have hip hop songs. BTS is a group that has voiced their absolute appreciation for and highlighted rap/hiphop artists and constantly pays homage without acting like they invented the genre. Unfortunately there are people and fans of other kpop groups that criticize BTS for trying to become “westernized” for validation….not even understanding that kpop is literally from the West. With their first English language song Dynamite BTS got so much sh*t from kpop fans for “catering to the West” meanwhile BTS was out there paying homage to Michael Jackson…. Kpop wouldn’t exist without the King of Pop. BTS is respectful unlike so many people in that industry.

Fun Fact - Teddy Park from YG's group 1TYM, is Blackpink's producer. He runs the YG Black Label, and he writes and produces all of Blackpinks music. Even most of their solo projects. He writes for many YG groups/artists. In the beginning, Big Hit had trainees that were focused on rap because they were going to debut a Hip Hop/Rap Group, but when the CEO changed his mind and made it a Hip Hop Idol Group (under the K Pop Umbrella) many of the trainees either opted out, got cut, or signed on as producer (Supreme Boi for example). They had the second round to fill those spots to include dancers. And none of their spots were guaranteed, except maybe RM, because the group was centered around him. I think Jimin said he was almost cut, something like 8 times. *I have a working list of songs from pre-debut to current, with correct English subtitles. If you want me to link them to you, just let me know, and I can email them to you.*

By the way jungkook the youngest member of BTS garnered 22M in real time viewers in his 1hr and 18minutes live streaming on VLIVE. Well some of the BTS members has high viewers too but Jungkook holds the highest.

If you really wanna see them "pay homage" to the culture check out hip hop lover color-coded lyrics(the song doesn't have a MV). They mentioned all the legends there which is some of the folks nowadays don't even know these hip hop legends. It showed that they know their shit and respect the culture. How many BiG aNd FaMoUs artists or specifically rappers have you seen that paying homage to the legends? Not many. So yeah that's why bts is different.

Mandatory military service is 18 mos, but right now it’s being debated whether to give BTS exemption due to their contribution to the Korean economy! And the government is concerned they may not get that money, cuz you can’t work or earn money while they’re in the military and they’re afraid the interest will diminish! RM and Suga were very steeped in rap and hip hop! RM basically used to make them almost study rap and hip hop - he used to send them playlists of rap songs and make them listen to all of them! RM has said and still says his biggest musical influence is Nas! That’s been a huge debate among fans - Nicki had 15 bars and had her verse displayed in Korean on the screen! Halsey danced an 8 count and sang the chorus…that’s it!😏

@@Tyrellwastaken Honestly, the way Koreans feel about honor, duty, and reputation - I don’t think it would be a good look if they didn’t! This is President Moons last year and the election is coming up! One of the candidates said if he wins, definitely not; but I think President Moon has been trying to think of a way for them to serve without actually serving, like in a different capacity but still call it military service! I hope he does it before he’s out of office! (Don’t mind the exclamation points - I use them for everything!) I work for the ARMY here in Korea - I’m praying if they do go, we get them at our base, which is a competitive placement! Assigned to my department…even better! 😜

I'm glad you guys took the time to react to this it shows so much about their musical journey. i want to write down below some suggestions for their songs but given how much there are now (230 in total i think) its hard to choose which ones as well as live performances. Not many artists have both VERSATILITY with their music and are ACTUALLY good at it(some artists may have songs in different genres but they music is just meh), not saying there wont be some songs you don't like or prefer from BTS, every one has their own taste. But in all, along with some of the Title tracks you wrote down like: Blood Sweat and Tears, I Need You(Original Version) and Life Goes On, you should definitely check out their B-sides those are in my opinion the true gems, (from Hip hop to R&B to Neo soul and jazz, rock, EDM, Latin pop, etc if there's a genre you wanna hear we'll suggest): [For these use color coded lyric videos to react to these BTS songs] 134340, Paradise, Jump, Look Here, Just One Day, Lie, Rain, The Stars, Pied Piper, Love Maze, Louder than bombs, Outro Tear, Ddaeng, ugh, Baepsae, Spinebreaker, Dis-ease, and more Also since you said you like V and his solo song you need to check out his tracks Singularity and Stigma (both Neo soul/R&B) really shows the range of his voice.
