Something also worth noting is that Dynamite and their other fully English songs weren't part of some big plan to conquer the US market (even though in this video that's what it seemed like). They were supposed to go on their world tour in 2020 after the release of Map of the Soul: 7 and after the tour they were supposed to be doing what they are doing now enlisting in the military while pursuing their solo projects. In their song Black Swan off of that album they were literally saying they were burnt out and needed a break. But when they pandemic happened all their tour and promotion plans were cancelled and they were still hoping the tour would happen at some point so they wanted to release a song to bring happiness and comfort to people worldwide during this difficult time. When they received Dynamite they actually contemplated re-writing parts of the song in Korean but decided the song was fine the way it was. I don't think BTS expected Dynamite to blow up the way it did, it was literally a gift to fans because they couldn't tour. Plus even with the 3 songs in English BTS released a lot more songs in Korean during this same period but people choose to focus only on these 3 songs, heck they even released their BE album during this time which was a Korean language album. I don't think fans really care what language BTS sing in but some fans did feel like their fully English songs weren't completely them since aside from Butter which RM helped write they weren't written by BTS and they were more poppy, commercial, and bland compared to their songs in Korean. And it's kind of frustrating when people who don't know BTS immediately go to Dynamite because it's their most popular song and think all their songs sound like that when they don't. BTS depth and versatility is in their Korean songs and if these easy listening fully English songs get people to check out BTS Korean discography then I'm all for it. BTS are Korean and proud of it but lets not pretend singing predominately in Korean doesn't hold back a lot kpop artists from making it in the western market when it comes to the general public. I've heard people flat out refuse to listen to any kpop including BTS purely based on the fact they don't want to listen music that's not in English. But like the director Bong Joon-Ho said when Parasite won the Oscar "Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films." I believe the same thing could be said for music.

Yeah, it's very obvious that MOTS:7, besides being an amazing album on its own, represented a concerted push at the American market. Two versions of Black Swan, each with an MV. Two versions of ON, one of which had two MVs. Shooting the MVs in California. Hitting the American late night talk shows *hard*. Doing ON at Grand Central. It's clear now (especially, as you say, looking at Black Swan's lyrics and RM's comments during Festa '22) that what the boys are doing *now* was what they planned to do *then* -- explore solo projects and restore their passion for music and performing, get a bunch of content filmed, then start terminating their military exemptions and begin their service. The pandemic derailed that and instead they pushed through their burnout to gift us with songs in English for greater accessibility *and* take on producing BE which, while undoubtedly stressful, probably also helped channel their creativity in new ways. I'd love to know how much of what's been coming out now was actually in the works pre-pandemic. Heaven knows, these guys never waste a scrap of creativity; anything they don't immediately put out seems to go into a file marked "For Late Use". And then they actually go back and use it! I wish I was that organized. 😛💜

The ONLY contribution UMG makes towards BTS being on the charts in the U.S is because they make it easy for ARMY to purchase BTS albums on Amazon, Walmart, Target, & Barnes & Noble. In other words, official stores that send purchase data to Billboard for US music charts. And the reason BTS’ label was able to secure a distribution deal with a U.S label (it used to be Columbia Records) was because ARMY would go to their local stores weekly and ask for those companies to get BTS’ albums. It’s why the guys give so much credit to ARMY, because they demanded BTS to be fully recognized in the U.S. and not relegated to some niche market. Rest assured BTS would STILL sell the same number of albums without UMG.

Etc etc. The probability of such a group is negligible.. and yet it happened. These 7 KINGS happened.. BTS happened ! Its fate.. and no one can convince me otherwise. 🤷🏻‍♀️💜

Thanks for your reaction. I agree that BTS do not need the Grammies - it's pretty broadly accepted now that the Grammies need BTS -for example, the Lives BTS did following each Grammy showed had higher viewer numbers than the Grammies. And we all know that the award decisions are driven by who pays the voters most - and that Big Hit has never paid under the counter for promotion - which is one reason that BTS don't get radio exposure in the US. Also, I don't ever think they will stop writing in Korean and Japanese. All of them are close to their own culture: it actually inhabits everything they do, even though it may not be obvious to us in the west. I think it's essential for anyone who is creative to have a strong root in their own culture, and strong sense of themselves. That is one reason we love them so much: at a time when many artists are sounding cliched or generic, their songs are quite deeply personal, and as a result they are unique. The same applies to the solo work they are bringing out during their "non-break". Like you, I watch a lot of"foreign" drama - and HATE dubbing. Subs, subs, subs EVERY time for me! Also It's surprising how many little bits of language you osmose when you are paying attention, which is good fun.

They really do work VERY hard. As of now they have 300+ songs (so good luck with that😂). And about the Grammys, we don't really care much about awards now because they have pretty much achieved all kinds of music awards. They have been nominated 5 times for Grammys and still don't have one which is not all that surprising to us anymore. The only reason we do care about them not winning it is because they have said that they wanted one (although I think they don't care anymore). They have proved whatever they have wanted to prove and now are just focused on their music and solo releases, not to mention their military enlistment. Btw did you guys know J-hope did a song with J Cole which was released about three days ago. He has been one of J-hope's biggest artistic influences and idols. Its sooo amazing to see him finally work with his idol. Plus he will soon be enlisting in the military and will be the 2nd member to do so after Jin 💜💜

Talking about Grammy’s, this year some outlets published findings about the lack of professionalism from the voters. They say they not even listen to the music they are voting and they vote more for the image of the artist, the reputation and not because they listen to the songs. And about BTS some voters said the group is for teenagers and they are not voting for them. So that’s why we stop caring about it. This year they were nominated for My Universe and they gave the award to Unholy because the song had a lot of streams, but My Universe had like a 100 million more streams.

People keep bringing up the Grammys like BTS is the first artist who wasn't treated unfairly. I think Justin Bieber was nominated 70 times and only received 2. I think it was very unfair to Army who helped BTS receive all the awards they have, yet they didn't appear as a group to accept all the awards they did win. If it's for an individual member fine, but for a group, a group should attend. We know the difference and didn't have to be treated like 10 year olds. Just because we saw them together doesn't mean we couldn't understand it was only for the award already won. Give us some credit.

Actually, after BTS lost the 1st time, the Grammys added "more" diversity and changed some of their voting rules. Also, one of the Grammy's insider (who worked for the Grammy's and was there for discussions) put the Grammy on blast for their racism and what they had to say about BTS, so it's not just about money. Honestly I can't stand award shows so I don't really care but the Grammy's did release the stats on their voting memberships and it really was mostly old white men and even after the change in 2021...still mostly old WM. Just saying...they've been racist from the start and not just against BTS but to your point, blacks, latino, etc.

Hi there- one of the main reasons why the term “snubbed” was used was because of the fact the Grammys have used BTS for clout time and time again. As an ARMY who experienced this in real time (god it was fucking dreadful) The amount of times the Grammy used “Up Next - BTS” throughout their whole program to keep their viewer count, only to have BTS perform last AND cut short was unbearable. Their latest appearance at last years Grammy was probably the only time I’d say it was worth them even showing face because their performance was incomparable and otherworldly. Also- HYBE only exists because of BTS’s success (no exaggeration lol) and each member of BTS have shares of HYBE. Just a fun fact and a food for thought of just how successful they’ve gotten.

Thanks guys, for reacting to this video by Rice Squad. It's a bit out of date now but one of the ones to watch. I'm a 70 year old ARMY whose musical tastes are stuck in the 50s 60s and 70s for the most part but I had to laugh when you guys didn't know that 'mv' stands for, 'music video'. Now here's a test for you, what does, 'OST' stand for? I love watching K-Drama but, yes, you have to pay attention to the subtitles so you can't multitask. You can get them dubbed but it's a no no for me. As for the Grammys, I think, 'Black Swan' and 'No' were more than worthy to be nominated but weren't and it can't be denied that it was because they weren't in English. I wouldn't have minded them losing if both the songs which beat them were really worthy but they weren't. As for a Spanish album that's not on the cards at the moment. Brazilian ARMYs are amazing but remember they speak Portuguese, not Spanish. All of BTS speak Japanese so they find hitting that lucrative market easy. They can go on shows there and converse easily. BTS have spoken to the UN three times. They've also visited President Biden.

The choreography was the work of Sienna Lalau and The Lab ... she is out of LA and also did the choreography for BTS's mv's for "Dionysus", "ON", "Permission To Dance", &J-Hope's "Chicken Noodle Soup". In the ON mv she is the girl front and center at beginning of the video. She's also in the Chicken Noodle Soup mv. She did the work on Jimin's "Set Me Free" while also do Rhianna's Super Bowl Halftime Show.

This video compiled BTS' achievements and what strikes me most is how passionate they are and how had they work. To be able to produce so many albums in 10 years, perform these songs and go on tours with limited breaks/personal time in between, the work ethic and dedication is admirable. Its inspiring. They work on stage and behind too. They are all composers, writers, producers, on all their albums which is rare for kpop. You notice the group because of visuals, music and choreography but you stay and root for them when you get to see how they are as people, their bond, their passion and amazing talent. Its super inspiring. Im so glad you are getting to know them. Welcome to the BTS rabbit hole. Its amazing down here lol 🐰💜

They aren't All in military right now. So far, only Jin (the oldest) enlisted in mid-December after release his solo song "The Astronaut" in collab with Coldplay and he went to Argentina to perform it live at Coldplay's concert. We recently found out J-Hope put in his papers to enlist but he isn't In yet. Age wise - Suga would be before J-Hope, but he is going on tour in U.S., Seoul, Japan, and another country or two, I think, in April and May. Tickets sold out in fan pre-registration for him as well, and they are smaller stadium type venues. Then next would be J-Hope, followed by RM. J-Hope was the first to release his solo album "Jack In The Box" in 2022, and recently a collab song with J. Cole, "On The Street". RM already released his solo album, Indigo, and has said he is working on some other things, so I suspect he will be next. Jimin's solo album is coming out in late March and has 6 tracks, one of which is an English version of a song that's on the same album in Korean. The album is called "Face". We don't know whether V or Jungkook are working on their solo albums yet. V has been busy doing TV shows and one was filmed in South America. Jungkook performed at the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony and did an MV for it as well, "Dreamers". He also did a collab song last year with Charlie Puth "Left and Right". Jungkook seems to be a bit lost lately and has just been taking it easy (as far as we know), drinking beer, singing for hours for us on Weverse-Live, etc. Several of them were recently named as fashion designer ambassadors (Suga, Jimin, RM, J-Hope and V) for all different designers. We thought Jung Kook was going to be one also, and maybe he still will be, but haven't gotten any confirmation yet. ANYWAY, Only 1 officially enlisted so far, and 1 going soon. The rest we aren't sure of the timing; however, if they really Do come back together sometime in 2025, that would mean they would all have to be enlisted before the end of 2023. So, we shall see. I'm sure I missed quite a few updates, but basically they've all still been busy. That update video only went to April 2022, like it said in the video. I think they have a typo in the title.

Just a note on the Chinese market, BTS has & still are popular & have a huge following, although I don't really know the fanbase count there. A guesstimate would be at least 5 million fans. There had been some socio-political issues between BTS & China, but that was mostly with China's government & conservative proponents. In the end though, any conflict they had with BTS got mainly subdued not only by global ARMY but also by Chinese ARMY.

Thanks for this guys. I think one of the reasons people were upset after the first Grammy loss is the way that show was set up. They had them perform but moved the duo group award to the end of the show to hold on to the viewers they brought. What was funny is after the show Bts did a live stream like always and had as many viewers as the awards show. I am not sure on numbers but they were so classy about it. I know it’s hard to watch everything without getting blocked but I think you would enjoy the online concerts they did during covid. They kept so many people employed. The Sowoozoo one was great. They had so many screens with people showing in the place of chairs for the audience. Anyway big fun.

They've worked hard, appreciate their fans and always acknowledge them.... BTS ARMY... I even saw a video about how US producer paying for US singer's songs be promoted and played just to make it on top..BUT BTS? they have WORLDWIDE ARMY to prove they don't need to pay just to make their songs ON TOP..we are just hoping cheaters won't pull down BTS' record of the real chart on Billboard and other platform

Getting a Grammy would be nice...a lot of haters has been using it to mock BTS all these while but Queen and ABBA also never win a Grammy but that doesn't stop them. BTW, Jungkook spontaneous weverse live got more audience than the Grammys this year (21M vs 14.3M😏) and this is not the first time. BTS actually doesn't need those awards to validate themselves.

Although BTS aren't the first, the Grammy's was a snub actually. They used them to gather clout but BTS had the last laugh bc they chose not to let it bother them. The award show used the fact that they would perform to get ARMY to watch and kept saying they were up next when they were 3 hrs after. Plus they're performance got shortened 👎 However, BTS doesn't need a Grammy to be validated as many other amazing artists have only been nominated as well! All they need is ARMY and we'll continue to fight, borahae💜

I think the only reason why grammy is such a big deal for bts and armys is because it's the only award left for them to have. Lol they are alrrady the most awarded group in history/of all time (4th overall). Even on hiatus they are still winning awards as a group. But it's just a validation. Bts wants it. It will come in perfect time. Maybe on their comebacks. Snoop has 20noms 0wins. Coldplay has 30+ noms w/ only 6wins. Bts at this point has 5noms, losing will still give them a title of 5-time grammy nominater artist. They have the most daesang (grandprize) which is also equivalent to grammys. That's how prestigious it is. In this day & age, there r still ppl who r still confused y Bts is dominating d world. Esp those hu refuse 2 check them out. Not liking them is fine, but talking sht abt them w/o actually knpwing them is crazy. 3 english songs VS 300+ korean songs is such a big deal 4 everyone. Unsure y ppl r shtting w/ bts abt it. Other grps/artists r alao doing it, ppl dont mind. I hope u also watch RISE OF BANGTAN, it's the best fan made docu out there. It's not all about bts, but the way they differ from the whole kpop industry. 💯

In response to the question of BTS going into the Chinese market, in my 12-ish years of being a Kpop fan I have only seen success come from groups who have members that are Chinese or of Chinese descent. For example EXO, NCT, & Super Junior all have/had Chinese subunits within the group. However due to strict regulations put in place by the Chinese govt back in 2016, when those subunits promote in China they cannot promote any Korean culture, style, etc. Its a whole political thing. Supposedly China is starting to lift the K-entertainment ban slowly, but it's still pretty restricted right now. Being as BTS has no Chinese members and also because they have become huge global ambassadors of Korea/Kpop, I highly doubt they would be welcome to enter the Chinese market- at least not now. Maybe they can tackle it after their military service and OT7 comeback!😊😊

also with all of that, they all found the time to get college degrees. the highest would be Suga who has a masters in advertising and media.
