In 2014 Legendary pictures and Warner Bros released their reboot of Godzilla, officially kicking off their shared universe called the "MonsterVerse". With Kong Skull Island, Godzilla King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs Kong being part of the universe as well.
Since Godzilla vs Kong released recently I felt it was only right to review all the movies and then at the end rank them from "worst" to best.

For me, I really like King of the Monsters the most out of the Godzilla trilogy. Mostly because I got to see the big players like Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra getting a big budget movie appearance. Also, that movie made me awe at the size of the monsters. I don't know, something about the cinematography really made them feel grand which is what was lacking in Godzilla VS Kong for me.

I really don’t like the 2014 Godzilla movie since it is such a waste of everyone’s time with so little Godzilla, to me the series really started with Kong Skull Island and every movie after that was great. Godzilla King of The Monsters is the movie that people expected for the 2014, lots of battles, lots of Godzilla, and a movie that people did not fall asleep to.

Great and insightful video, I really enjoyed the entirety of the monsterverse and appreciate it based on how it brought awareness to these monsters and movies that would be seen as a niche not that long ago. Godzilla has always been my favorite fictional character and just seeing a big budget film where the monsters and set pieces return is what is so great about the monsterverse. Hopefully they continue it and maybe create a branch of films leading up to a final film because all of these creatures and monsters deserve more recognition and there is a clear market for it but based on box office nothing is guaranteed. Just imagine a modern remake of destroy all monsters or Godzilla vs Destroyah.....the potential and excitement is endless!

Great video dude! I'm just gonna rank every (big) monster in the Monsterverse, 'cause why not. 11: Mire Squid - KSI(It's kinda just a giant squid. decent fight, but it only lasts like 40 seconds) 10: The background Titans - KotM (they are only there as background, but at least they have interesting and cool designs) 9: The MUTOs - 2014 (Great sounds, very interesting design, and has a lot of cool scenes, but they lack personality) 8: Skull Crawlers - KSI, GvK (While they're a lot more simple than the MUTOs, I just think they work better. They are nasty, scary and the battle between Kong and the big one are among the best fights in the monsterverse!) 7: Warbats - GvK (they serve little to no purpose in the plot, but the designs really cool, and the short battle with kong is also surprisingly cool!) 6: Mothra - KotM (Mothra's monsterverse design is my favorite of all Mothra designs, and her beauty and loyalty knows no bounds! She's lacking in power compared to most of the other titans, but she's still great in her own way!) 5: Rodan - KotM (Rodan is just awesome! The visual designs the best its ever been, the scene where he battles the jets is great, and his personallity makes him stand out from other incarnations, making him a turncoat to whoever seems strongest. I hope we get more of him in a future film) 4: Kong - KSI, GvK (Kong might've been put below Rodan, had it not been for GvK. Calling him "JuSt A bIg MoNkE" is underplaying him severely! He is intelligent, skilled, and has the most personality out of any of the monsters really. He made a worthy foe to Godzilla indeed) 3: MechaGodzilla - GvK (The designs great, the fight is f*cking perfect, he has an extremely menacing presence, what is there NOT to love about this badass killer robot? My only problem with him, is that I wish we could've seen more of this MechaGodzilla. And when the biggest problem with something is "More pls", then you're doing something right!) 2: Ghidora - KotM (If we ignore the main stars of the Monsterverse, Ghidora is EASILY the best one! He's terrifying, powerful as hell, and has lots of personality! all around the best villain in this universe) 1: Godzilla - 2014, KotM, GvK (I mean, are you really surprised? This universes take on the big G is practically a cinematic icon of this generation! He shows himself as worthy of the tittle of King of the Monsters, as he overcomes every enemy he faces, wether it be ancient parasites, draconic aliens, axe-weilding primates or mechanical look-a-likes! His roar is awesome, his design is awesome, almost every scene he is in is awesome, just awesomeness all around!) how'd you rank them? be sure to tell me below if u feel like it!

It was such a relief to see the Vintage Kaiju back on the big screen starting in 2014 - while the Monsterverse doesn't trample the original films that introduced each Kaiju A-lister within and outside Toho (largely due to some flaws involving character development of the humans here with the exception of Serisawa), it is so far easily the best cycle of kaiju films I've seen since the Heisei Era of Godzilla, beloved by established G-fans due to its consistency in terms of tone and storyline continuity (somewhat disrupted during both the Showa and Millennium cycle), returning the Big Guy to his more serious roots complete with a badass conclusion. If anything, it managed to reconfigure plot elements from the original Toho films into something refreshingly new instead of being a mere remake/retread, while its spectacle goes beyond that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it proved that Hollywood was for once capable of treating these legendary icons with respect when they were in the right hands. Whether or not the Monsterverse will improve with time, let alone age well as a separate cycle, remains to be seen, but if anything, at least it brought back my childhood memories of watching the original classics at home and even re-enacting some of the battles during playtime with my kid bro. Now the only question left is - how are they going to properly celebrate Godzilla's 75th Diamond Anniversary in 2029 and King Kong's centennial in 2033!!?? And will Toho bring back Godzilla for a new cycle of films during the new Reiwa Era and make it just as good as or better than the Heisei Era!? And will there be new original kaiju films emerging internationally during the 2020's to rival the Monsterverse or new Toho series!!?? Oh the possibilities... I'm already drooling with anticipation!!!!

I am a huge fan of the monster verse and the monster verse made my wife a Godzilla fan. I still have a hard time believing I’m in a world where America made a good Godzilla who perfectly embodies that “Nature Personified” side of Godzilla. The easiest way to cope with the Godzilla interpretations is to think of it like this: Most Godzilla’s are 50% natural disaster given form and 50% nuclear abomination. Legendary Godzilla is a Nature God 100%. Shin Gojira is the pure nuclear aberration side of Godzilla. I’m a huge fan of Heisei Godzilla, so Legendary felt so good for me and right at home in my heart. Shin felt so far detached that GMKs ghost Godzilla felt more Godzilla-ey than Shin. But I respect why people like it a lot and understand. I just feel like shin is too weird for me personally.

While he did direct All monsters attck and Terror of Mechagodzilla, there is a noticable downgrade in quality for the rest of the showa era. Since he didnt direct the hedorah, gigan, megalon, or the first mechagodzilla, they lack his personal touch and suffer in quality for it. Although as I said before I do like Godzilla vs Hedorah because of it's bold artistic surrealness. I'm happy you identified with the heisei era so much. I grew up with the showa and millenum series so I never had that personal connection with heisei godzilla. But the return of Godzilla and especially Godzilla vs Biollante are great. I like it best when godzilla movies are about social and political themes and have a unique style and voice form the director.

My personal favourite is King of the monsters, bcs it's the one movie that makes me wanna to return to it. I've watched interviews with production team of KOTM, and I felt that enthusiasm that Dougherty wanted to put in the film, and his intention to put more character into monsters, give Godzilla history and personality. For me it was a succesor and respect towards the original TOHO movies. With McCreary's music that brings famous and favourite themes, and designs of the monsters that sticks to the original, but still tries to make it fresh and add something new but not woithout reasons. I especially love Mothra's design and ideas behind it (like how she resembles not only a giant moth, but different other insects, her sound design, the stinger that was given to her with words "to survive in a world filled with giant monsters you'd have to have sort of a diffence mechanism").

I think that, depending on what you're looking for in these movies, the 2014 Godzilla is either the best one or the worst one, which is not something I can say for the other three movies, that are more similar to each other. I don't know what this is meant to say about the film's quality (personally I like KOTM the most) but it's an interesting observation

Monsterverse is a special case to treat, but I think you perfectly handled its analyse. And I do share your appreciation and opinion about these films. Sure, they're imperfect, often dumb once you regard the plot, but none of them are bad movies. They're just big blockbusters (with all the good and bad that this term implies) who perfectly did what they were aimed to do: entertaining people with big monster fights. An entertainement that I totally appreciated. As for my personal classment, from the best to the worst: -Godzilla: King of the Monsters, for its special effects, its GOD TIER score, its monsters, the lore that it develops for the Monsterverse; -Godzilla vs Kong, maybe less awesome but still awesome, even though it's the BVS of its universe (with, once again, all the good and bad that it implies) -Kong: Skull Island, which I have a good memory even though I didn't see it since a while, but when I look back to it, I think that it's the best in term of ambiance, staging and its characters, even though they're not perfect, but are cleary the best among these films; -and lastly, Godzilla (2014), which is the one which the most unique of these films, for its more grounded and serious approach of Godzilla, but because of that, and of the lack of emphasis on Godzilla, I think this is the less pleasant to watch, HOWEVER, I think this is the best from a more "artistic" point of view. I loved these films, but I think that the end of GvK was a good conclusion. Expanding more of it would be interesting, but I think that unlike Marvel, Legendary should settle for the success of these 4 films rather than pulling the rope and risking annoying audiences with less and less interesting films.

I just love the Monsterverse. Your ranking is exactly my list. Godzilla vs Kong is my favorite because it was so fun. I don’t get how people can be super critical of these movies. I’ve seen some goobers saying that GvK was a bad movie because the story was dumb, and I was like “so?” It doesn’t really matter if the story is dumb, because these monsters get the monster stuff perfectly right, and that’s all you can ask for when watching them.

My order is 4.Godzilla 2014 3.Skull Island 2.Godzilla vs Kong 1.KotM 2 and 1 were close, but KotM had a little more monster fighting time on screen. Plus, the monsters just looked incredible-not that they didn't in GvK, but did you see Rodan, Ghidorah and Mothra, man lol. They made 2 reptiles look spectacular, and a giant insect look absolutely beautiful! Credit where credit is due...
