As an Indonesian, it pains me to see Rahmat miss out on an Olympic spot given that he is literally the best in the world and was probably going to win gold. However, I'm so proud of Rizki and he absolutely deserves this, I believe he can also win gold for Indonesia, congrats for both

I don't understand the rules in the qualifications of weightlifting for Paris 2024. Why there's only 1 ticket available? And the two athletes who compete for that ticket are both Indonesian.

Jadi ada surat protes dari salah satu negara (kita semua tau negara apa, saya tidak perlu sebutkan hehe) ke NOC karena cabor ini di Olympic terlalu didominasi oleh China. Nah NOC akhirnya mengeluarkan peraturan kualifikasi bahwa setiap negara hanya boleh mengirimkan satu wakil saja di tiap nomor dan maksimal 3 wakil ditiap gendernya (pria/wanita).

Shi's still hoping that neither Li nor Tian can beat Karlos and he can convince the Chinese committee to send him. He's still recovering, clawed back 16kg since the last comp, 9kg off from Rizki right now. Claims to only be 60-70% recovered so he's got an argument that he's still got a chance to be triple Olympic champ in Paris and he's hoping that Karlos will help him make his argument on Saturday. But for the Chinese, who have too many lifters qualify across too many categories, it's still not decided after this comp. Even if Tian or Li manage to beat Karlos, if they get injured or fall apart in training and Shi shows remarkable recovery, he could still end up being selected to go. It depends on how everyone's training goes in the next few months.

His time is not yet done. He is more likely to end up with silver than either Tian Tao or Li Dayin. And still has possibility of beating Rizki.

Poor Rahmat, my favorite athlete.

Hubris for Rahmat. Jubilation for Rizki. What a battle, what an event. This was the Olympics. Seeing Rizki breakdown was wholesome. After the injuries he had to battle to make his way back to the top against all odds, the human will can offer us some magical athletic feats.

Rizki is now the first indonesian to crack the top 60 all time sinclair scores. He now sits right behind Lu Yong and ahead of Oleg Perepetchenov.

And then blend in post-2016 lifters yourself

"Rizki and Rahmat finally embrace" is a bit of an overstatement for that half-second hug. :)

This competition has been probably the best I've seen so far. But I went through so many emotions watching this earlier. Rahmat made a valiant effort in his attempt to make it to the Olympics in Paris.

Rehmat will probably bulk up to 81.

Shi Zhiyong has always been a great sportsman. When his CJ was broken the first time by Rahmat, he said records are meant to be broken and he welcomed the challenge.

These are the moments we need to see in WL. What an amazing sport.

Robin the IOC is the international Olympic committee. It seems to be run by a bunch of old fuddy duddies who have archaic rules that don’t make sense to anyone but themselves.

Can someone explain what happened here? Why did Rahmat not qualify for Olymic? Is this some internal decision with Indonesia or did Rahmat have less points and actually failed qualify? I mean Rahmat have done so well last 2 years?

@@cbn1362 The rule to qualify says that only 1 from each country can qualify, so Rahmat was 2nd best overall but also 2nd best in his country so only the nr1 from his country can go unfortunately.

The fact is that he's literally not long ago being recovered from his surgeon and being absence from the stage for a quite long time heck he's not even in our national team at Asian games last year when Rahmat won the gold (the last time i see him before the surgery is at the Sea games Cambodia) and hell no one expect this will happen he can upset anyone including Rahmat itself by clinching both Snatch and CnJ then breaking the world record for taking the last ticket for Indonesian men's lifter to Olympic

I'm conflicted, even though it made this World Cup extremely high level, I still think the Olympic qualification system is dumb. I wanna see the best athletes there. Who cares what country they are from? Happy for Rizki though.

It's a better sweet feeling watching this video. On one hand I'm happy to see him succeed, but on the other hand sad to see him succeed because his fellow country man fail. But that is the essence of competition.

I regularly watch Rahmat's c&j for studying and pleasure, so I still can't believe that I won't see him in the Olympics.

Why on earth did Rahmat go for the third attempt without taking the full 2 minute rest? What was his father thinking? He controls everything for him and doesn't stop him when he's about to make a big mistake. And very happy to see the great Shi on the podium once more. With all his injuries it's likely we'll never see him competing again.

It must have been for some superstitious/religious reason because that made absolutely zero fucking sense. It's basically saying "my faith is stronger than biology and nothing can stop me".

Happy for him but im really gutted Rahmat wont be at the olympics. Hes my favourite weightlifter in the whole sport. Rizki better learn that double bicep pose. I've been waiting years to see it at the olympics! 😂

Most incredible session I've ever seem, absurd levels of drama. Rizki jumping NINE kilos on both lifts and smashing them was lunacy. Feel terrible for Rahmat. Gained a lot of respect for Shi, first seeing him absolutely go for broke on every lift despite clearly being in pain and declined from his physical best, insane grit, and then seeing him be a class act here (and, he's the closest thing we have left to a true chaos agent now that Tao has retired).

Happy and sad moment for Indonesia. One advances and the other one misses the Olympics

Countries only get to send one lifter. The olympics committee greatly reduced the number of athletes allowed to compete due to many drug bans on weightlifters at previous olympics. Those caught doping really screwed over other future competing athletes.

Yup. seems like a political chess move. If it’s because of doping, sports like track and field and swimming should have restrictions too but then usa will lose out on a lot of medals.@@asdzt123
