Feels like everyone is whining about how Rahmat isnt gonna make it to the olympics but we dont know that for sure do we? The decision is ultimately up to the Indonesian federation no? You have the choice between the guy thats performed the best comp after comp and then had (what many seem to consider) a bad day. And then you have Rizki who pulled an ABSOLUTE 100% all out lift, could not have made 1kg more type lift, to beat his team mate for the first time? I dont know about you but if i wanted to get a GUARANTEED gold for my country, I know who I would be choosing. The consistent guy. The Olympics arent too far away its not like their numbers are going to change drastically

This is a good point I think. I guess it just depends if they are only going to look at who has the biggest total or if they consider the big picture instead. Even if Rahmat did miss, nearly jerking 6kg over the previous WR shouldn't be ignored either. Making a WR attempt of more than 1kg basically just isn't a thing these days, much less coming close with such an attempt. Either way amazing performance from Rizki, in spite of making a C+J WR, in actuality he won this comp in the snatch, it's what forced Rahmat to attempt such a crazy C+J in the first place.

No. Absolutely not. Rahmat is a fantastic lifter, but he is not even close to one of the greatest the sport has seen. In the words of Matthias Steiner’s coach, “the very best athletes are distinguished by one thing. They compete a lot of times but they only have a few where they have one try which will decide everything and that can change their life. In life you only have two or three, maybe only one chance, and you have to grab it. That’s the difference between a very good athlete, and a champion.” This time Rizki won. He grabbed the one chance he had, and Rahmat failed when it was his moment. Never suggest the loser get a special handout. What an insult to all other 73kg lifters.

Steiners coach may have been reflecting on his great victory over Chigashev in Beijing 2008 when Steiner did the 258 on the last lift. One of the greatest moments in lifting history. But Matthias Steiner was nowhere near one of the greatest lifters in the sport. He had one of the greatest moments in all of sport but there are dozens of lifters who had better careers.

It's a mental mistake - and poor coaching. His first miss was close and he thought he'll just take a another crack at it - when he sat there for 30s, it probably felt like 5mins. But even with the world's best, you'll need more recovery time than 45-50s when you are attempt at your max. The best of the best athletes, would have trained this situation beforehand and understood the game plan to recover before attempt #3.

So many whining fanboys in the comments struggling to cope with the fact that Rahmat is an actual independent adult human being presumably without a debilitating cognitive impairment and has the abiltiy to ignore his father coach's advice if he wants to.
