The Middle East conflict is framed as one of the most complex problems in the world. But, in reality, it's very simple. Israelis want to live in peace and are willing to accept a neighboring Palestinian state. And most Palestinians do not want Israel to exist. As Dennis Prager explains, this is really all you need to know. When I did my graduate studies at the Middle East Institute at Columbia University’s School of International Affairs, I took many courses on the question of the Middle East conflict.
Semester after semester, we studied the Middle East conflict as if it was the most complex conflict in the world -- when in fact, it is probably the easiest conflict in the world to explain. It may be the hardest to solve, but it is the easiest to explain.
In a nutshell, it’s this: One side wants the other side dead.
Israel wants to exist as a Jewish state and to live in peace. Israel also recognizes the right of Palestinians to have their own state and to live in peace. The problem, however, is that most Palestinians and many other Muslims and Arabs, do not recognize the right of the Jewish state of Israel to exist.
This has been true since 1947, when the United Nations voted to divide the land called Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state.
The Jews accepted the United Nations partition but no Arab or any other Muslim country accepted it.
When British rule ended on May 15, 1948, the armies of all the neighboring Arab states -- Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Transjordan, and Egypt -- attacked the one-day old state of Israel in order to destroy it.
But, to the world’s surprise, the little Jewish state survived.
Then it happened again. In 1967, the dictator of Egypt, Gamal Abdel Nasser, announced his plan, in his words, “to destroy Israel.” He placed Egyptian troops on Israel’s border, and armies of surrounding Arab countries were also mobilized to attack. However, Israel preemptively attacked Egypt and Syria. Israel did not attack Jordan, and begged Jordan’s king not to join the war. But he did. And only because of that did Israel take control of Jordanian land, specifically the “West Bank” of the Jordan River.
Shortly after the war, the Arab states went to Khartoum, Sudan and announced their famous three “No’s: “No recognition, no peace, and no negotiations,”
What was Israel supposed to do?
Well, one thing Israel did, a little more than a decade later, in 1978, was to give the entire Sinai Peninsula -- an area of land bigger than Israel itself, and with oil -- back to Egypt because Egypt, under new leadership, signed a peace agreement with Israel.
So, Israel gave land for the promise of peace with Egypt, and it has always been willing to do the same thing with the Palestinians. All the Palestinians have ever had to do is recognize Israel as a Jewish state and promise to live in peace with it.
But when Israel has proposed trading land for peace -- as it did in 2000 when it agreed to give the Palestinians a sovereign state in more than 95% of the West Bank and all of Gaza -- the Palestinian leadership rejected the offer, and instead responded by sending waves of suicide terrorists into Israel.
Meanwhile, Palestinian radio, television, and school curricula remain filled with glorification of terrorists, demonization of Jews, and the daily repeated message that Israel should cease to exist.
So it’s not hard to explain the Middle-East dispute. One side wants the other dead. The motto of Hamas, the Palestinian rulers of Gaza, is: “We love death as much as the Jews love life.”

Anyone - even with zero knowledge of the conflict - will notice that there's a gaping hole in this video. When someone says "I don't want you to exist" the natural question to immediately follow is "Why" which this video completely ignores. The religious component is avoided altogether, which is the conundrum of this whole thing. It's called "The Holy Land" for a reason, and not just one group of zealots consider it exclusively holy to their particular favored brand of mythology. That's the problem.

Dark, There would only be the " natural " question of " why " in the reprobate mind which doesn't understand that Palestinians refusing to acknowledge the existence of the Jewish state can not be justified by any motive an individual might conjecture up. This is precisely why he doesn't answer the question. No question is being begged. Many lands have places considered " Holy land " but you don't see them calling for the Genocide of their inhabitants. I don't think the problem is so much with this man's line of argumentation and failure to leave religion out of the discussion, as much as it is that you look for every opportunity to indite religion as the cause of all the worlds problems to pander to your own biased, militant atheist, world views.

+Neil Johnstone Israel did not just "take" the lands they now control, they acquired them through war that was started by the countries surrounding them. This has always been an accepted and legal form of land acquisition. Also, they have traded land for peace as the video mentions. The land that they have not traded/given back (the Golan Heights for example), they keep for security reasons.

You would be more credible if he followed up with some facts and reasoning, but you did it and you might as well just said "poop head!" and still be just as credible. Come up with real a argument or risk people thinking you a moron.
You can't avoid war when the enemy wants you dead. Better is to finish the enemy before it strikes. You can't be lucky all the time but they have to be lucky only once.

Indian history is full of such examples where Hindu kings pardoned the Muslim attackers after winning wars, but almost all of them attacked till they were able to defeat Hindus. Prithviraj Chauhan (Hindu king of Rajasthan) defeated Mohammed Gauri (Muslim attacker) 13 times and spared his life 13 times. He was accidentally defeated the 14th time and Mohammed Gauri punctuted both his eyes with hot iron rod took his wife and killed all his courtiers brutally.

And the DAY old Jewish state was attacked by numerous Arab countries with modern armies, whose purpose was simply to destroy it. And guess what? Israel survived and expanded it's terittory. Is it still illegal? All of Israel's wars were to defend itself. You need to understand the reality there, because Israel's existence has always been threaten.

It's not that Egypt matured, rather Israel gave them their land back. And America has been bribing them with billions of dollars a year to be complicit in Israeli war crimes.Perhaps if Israel gave Palestinians their land back, they would find peace? Of course if Israelis give Palestinians their land back, Israel is going to shrink to a tiny fraction of its current size. Then if the Palestinians lay siege to them, it'll be the Israelis firing rockets, or "enhanced fireworks" as Norman Finklestein describes them, at Palestine.

I'm not surprised you're confused. I can't imagine PragerU viewers are the brightest bunch! Israel has offered Palestine non contiguous cantons with no control over its own borders. These non states are logistically unworkable and leave the cantons completely at Israel's mercy. They also typically involve Palestinians keeping less than half the land allocated to them in the 1948 partition plan, which itself demanded Palestinians gift over 55% of their land to European Jewish settlers. , so that's Palestinians gaining limited semi autonomous, non contiguous cantons in 22% of what was Palestine in 1947. Still confused, or are you beginning to understand why nobody would accept this? These offers all involve Israel keeping East Jerusalem, which is 80% Muslim majority btw, though Israel is hard at work trying to socially engineer the population demographics there. Israel itself has rejected numerous Arab initiative peace deals, but I'm sure you're not interested in that! The problem is that the Israel wants Palestinian land more than it wants peace, and the price to pay for that is very, very small. Hamas occasionally sends fireworks at Israel that basically cause almost no threat at all. If that's the only cost of ethnic cleansing, then why not continue? Well that's the Israel logic anyway.

President Nixon had a famous/prophetic dream. iirc. An angel came and told him he must send help to Israel. He wakes up, 3 AM in the morning and orders an all out military supply to Israel asap. Doesn't give af what time it is, just do it. The Joint cheifs of staff was resistant but ultimately complied after some berating from Nixon and the Yom Kippir war was history. Nixon is one of the great presidents. His time was short but well served. 😂

So called arab Palestinians have never had in human history their own country, their own language different from others, their own religion, their own history, their own capital, their own culture distinguishable from the culture of their arab neighbours. In fact, arabs in Galil - north Israel, speak arabic which is closer to arabic in Lebanon, arabs on West bank speak arabic which is closer to arabic in Jordan, arabs in Gaza speak arabic that is closer to bedouin & Egyptian language. I learned arabic, I live in Jerusalem, I have some arab friends, and no one of them would seriously contest these simple evident facts. There is just one thing that unites dark masses or crowds in Gaza & in West bank: hatred to Jewish self-determination. For that simple reason I turn to all honest people on the Earth: support Israel in its struggle against Palestinian terror & hatred.

Jocko Jonson i understand your point however it is important to consider things that still have visible impacts today. Such as the difference between sunnis and shiites. Originally it started basically as a family feud over 200 years ago and today it is one of the major reasons for the decent between muslims today. So today things that happened a long time ago have no impact on today is stupid. Some things have very little impact, but to say something has no impact is illogical.

+gcalasam true, especually when the British has promised that land to 3 other (or several, depending on aristrocrats) neighboring countries the land if they rebelled against the Ottomans as well. Which worked. It helped them rebelled and such. All the neighboring countries felt betrayed and felt they were promised a piece of it, but up until after ww2, everyone there felt 'they were still Arab', thus no real conflict during ww2 with the Jewish, muslim, christian locals. It is kinda sad though, that before ww2 , when germans were starting to pack jewish people into train carts and ghettos for the 'final solution', that the british prevented movements of people , and basically doomed a mass ammount of jews excaping death.

And Israel bombing only terrorists and military targets, and even that only in wars. Btw, 70% of all the food and water in Gaza actually came from Israel. Israel is selling food and water to the Palestinians, which means that Israel save tens of thousands of Palestinians from starving to death every day. Hamas has been launching rockets into Israel like there is no tomorrow and the only reason there hasn't been a massacre is because of its "dome". Most Palestinian deaths have been the unfortunate result of Hamas using it's people as human shields. Do you even know where the word Palestinian comes from anyway? It is a term that refers to an ancient Greco people that settled in the southern coasts of the Levant, the Philistines. The modern connotation was developed during Roman times to undermine the Jews, since Palestinian literally means "invaders". Modern "Palestinians" are actually Semites that have inhabited the region for millenia and have only fairly recently converted to Islam. Same with many Jews and Christians of the region. What would happen if Hamas had it's way? It would be a massacre of the Jewish people. Their entire message is to destroy Isreal and the Jews.

I understand both parties actions, although I don't approve all their actions. And I have no clue for a solution in the immediate future, other than trying to get both parties talking. Muslims around the world (in particular) have a right to be the voice of the Palestinian people (as Hamas have them fighting for breath in a vicious choke hold). Why should anyone expect any less? BUT, NOT by marching through streets waving Anti-Semitic banners (like in London / Paris). NOT by spreading lies (often through false imagery) in an attempt to generate more sympathy from the West. NOT by spewing hatred on social media (the likes of which I have never seen). NOT by threatening Jewish populations. And NOT by calling for the destruction of Israel, the only democracy in the Middle-East. Newsflash: Israel is here to stay. I was very surprised that Dennis ended this video with a statement that is factually wrong. There has indeed been a non-Jewish state in the area of of Palestine. From 1099 to 1291 the Kingdom of Jerusalem (a Christian state) existed there. At other times Palestine has been part of larger non-Jewish states as well. I don't know why he made this statement, but it is misleading. Throughout history, that area has only been Jewish for a few hundred years. This is not a good argument for the essential Jewishness of the area - especially since it has been part of various pagan, Christian, and Muslim empires for far longer than it was Jewish. A much better argument is that Israel is a legally recognized state and a member nation on the UN. International law requires the other nations of the world to recognize that fact and not wage aggressive war against them.

Secondly, DNA tests proved that 80% of the male chromosomes of Ashkenazi Jews(Europe Jews) originated in the Levant and descended from the ancient Israelites. Palestinians are Arabs, Arabs descended from the Arab peninsula, they're no indigenous to Israel. And so you know, when I'm saying 'Jews', I'm talking about the Jewish ethnicity, the people, not the religious group.

@@Schproemftell I don't think religion is the only reason for the conflict. Christian countries had fought for centuries before WW2, its not just because of religion. Its still wrong tho

@@DunmeriDrain but that was in the past we are talking about the here and now . where nearly everyone else except the Islam accepts Israel .... i dont care much for any religion i only react on the things i see and witness myself and the sad truth is that many (by far not all) Muslims behave worse than Nazis and i am from a country where we are stigmatized to be Antisemits from our own Government (even though we are not)

They are legit occupying the Golan Heights and Bibi stated the other day that he would annex the West Bank which is designated Palestinian territory.
