The Mason's Castle - Ghost of the American Renaissance

"The thing that fascinated me about the castle is that everybody thinks that it's haunted, that people were locked up in the courtyards...None of its true. What did strike me as very unusual is from the time that I'm able to record; no one has ever been able to live on that land. That struck me as bizarre." -- Dr. Joyce Conroy -- Historian

This physically made my chest hurt. The whole "lump in the throat" thing. I've been in love with that home since the first time I saw a picture of it. It's my desktop photo at this very minute. I've looked for videos of these "explorers" who've gone into it, but never found one. When I saw the still shot of this video on my screen, my heart leaped out of my chest with anticipation. It breaks my heart to see it in such disrepair. I think of that place so often, and wish I could persuade them to sell it, that I literally play the lotto every week, only in hopes of being able to be the person to do it. Thank you so much for these photos. There are many I've never seen before here.

It's become much worse in the 8 years that have passed since I photographed it. It's a neat relic of someone's long lost dream I suppose. Built by a very wealthy Mr. Dundas who died before it was completed. As for his wife and daughter... that's another story. I've been there before. It's not too far from my family summer house. It's an interesting place. It's been owned by an African American offshoot of the Masons for as long as I can remember. Probably as a sign of prestige in that one might say we own a "castle". lol But that's about it. They tried to use it as a "summer camp" for their kids at one point in time. But aside from building a campfire in the courtyard, and hanging a sign by the road that said "Camp .....", that's about the only investment they made in the property. They never had the money to do anything more with it as far as fixing it up. Nor will they ever. So there it sits. An empty shell.

***** As for the "castle" itself... Like I said, it's a neat place... But it's not what you might expect. There are no grand halls with towering ceilings, etc. A lot of rooms, but no high ceilings. And one end of the place doesn't lead to the other end. I don't think there was ever a "master plan" to the construction. I know it changed multiple times, for what reasons I don't know. Rich and bit eccentric that's what sometimes happens I suppose. lol

The property is owned by Prince Hall Masons. The original owner died before it was finished, his wife was mentally ill and sent to a sanatorium, his only child, a girl, who's care takers robbed her blind. She married, moved to England and also ended up in a sanatorium. Unfortunately no one is doing the upkeep on the property. It would be lovely if they did.

Someone sent me a message "can you describe the man". Yes he is White with brown hair growing silver around the edges. He has on a hat like older style but mostly almost German looking. He has on boots like for gardening and tweed pants brown color and a coat like a country Jacket or something again you might see in the older times looks again northern French or German. He is about 45 years old or 50. He has a mostly shaved face looks like he smoked. His shovel looks modern. He doesn't like dogs either they bark at him. The Women upstairs in the more female rooms is White with dark brown hair up for the time period and she has a dark looks almost like an indoor riding jacket and long skirt the same material with black high button boots. She is wearing lace for a shirt under her jacket that is high to the neck also. It is buttoned up. Those older homes are cold in the winter time. She looks about 35 years old not skinny not fat very nice to look at pleasing. She is in love.... but I don't see who she is in love with..... you know they get a glow or new motherhood they have a glow she has that. She walks the upper floors I don't know why. He looks like he spends a good time outside keeping kids and people and dogs off the property. I tried to talk to them and what I heard was they are trying to save the house because in the future someone will buy it they hope and bring it back to life. They call themselves the house lovers so they guard the house waiting for someone to love it like they do. I think they are expecting someone they expect not just anyone to buy the house. I don't know what kind of arrangement that could be? So I don't see children..... which I expected to see in the little girl rooms...... I don't see servants either. I think someone may have died to they abandoned the house too hard to live without their loved ones. That is what he looks like his hair is short cut like these days style not long in the back. Interestingly beautiful house. I wonder who they want to buy the house? They both look American in Genetics and style. Except their older European style clothes which was just the wold time period cloths. Thanks for the lovely video. Oh I hear singing in the picture with the long hall with part of the hall wall cut short looking through the pointed door down the hall. Singing and skipping but of a women doing it...... light comes in through the hall windows and doors on the other side. It looks happy in sound. Lovely feelings in the hall. So at one time it had a family that lived their happily. Grace

Arnot517, Hi I am several types of psychic. I do have trouble with time when I look at TV or movies, or videos even if I am there I do see several time periods at the same time. So I use it to solve murders I can see a lot. But..I am out of body a lot hard to see body world out of body. But if I look at several time periods at once then out of body then remote view double check then I am right in past and accurate mostly in the future. It is called clairvoyance I have to go back to that time a lot to get hearing. Clairaudiace . OK everyone can do that it is a God given talent just ask and received! Claira Grace

I think there's a curse on that castle somehow. It sounds like a curse is supposed to do. Castle or not, living in the middle of nowhere can drive some people insane. Also, someone who is mentally fragile only needs a small push from some sort of oppressive event to drive them to insanity. Since poor mental health can be hereditary, the trauma of losing a family member can be enough to affect both mother and daughter. A lot of families kept these issues private, as anyone was allowed to have anybody committed to an asylum. We have seen the way mental illness was handled back then, so we can understand why this would not be readily admitted by anyone.

I'm frustrated. We still don't know WHY nobody could live on that land. Maybe she meant everybody who lived on that lad died shortly thereafter. That's even spookier.

+Cindia Hudson Ralph Dundas passed away shortly before the castle was completed. After that his wife killed herself, and his daughter was mentally unstable and was institutionalized. His whole family basically fell apart after his death.
