"I strive to create nontraditional images and scenes in locations that most people will never have the pleasure to see. I explore locations that have been abandoned and create collections of images that tell a story to the viewer, both as singular pictures and as a whole experience. These abandoned buildings and locations speak volumes when you enter them, even in their abandoned and decaying state. Every room you look into tells a story and every artifact from a bygone era holds years of meaning and lost purpose. I enjoy searching for beauty in uncommon places and by doing so, help to preserve the history, memory and spirit that still shines ever so faintly in the dust and decay of these modern ruins." www.thedigitalmirage.com

This is incredibly sad I’ve been to wild waters many times in my life I’m 39 years old now I live in Florida the memories of this park is always made me think why did they have to tear down such an amazing water park In the early 2000s I got to go one more time with the ymca this video is so sad as a kid in the 80s and 90s I’ve been here many times seeing this water park abandoned and then torn down is so incredibly sad all those wonderful memories gone it suck’s
Good times at that park .. 😢😢😢
Yeah I so recall that Pizza Pop guy that stopped at my ancient wooden barracks back in the summer/fall of 1971. Man those were horrible pizza's but what can you do when that hungry.
I went to so many events there as a kid in the 80’s. Young adult in 90’s . I saw me last show there in 2006. 2 nights of Widespread Panic
Was there in 86 being trained to repair weather equipment. White Hall was the first step to that training.
For a place that has been abandoned, it sure looks great. I think that with a few fixing ups, the place could be restored back to its rightful place as a concert/game venue.
I went to many concerts there in the 70s and 80s. The Who, Tina Turner, Chaka Kahn, Mister Mister, Neil Diamond, Johnny Rivers, The Brothers Johnson, and more. Also a few basketball games and one Hockey contest.
I purchased your latest photo book and I am awe of the beautiful photos, especially the abandoned aircraft and the stories behind them. Keep up the good work and I’m lucky to have came across your book.
Thank you so much for your support of my work! I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
I was there in 73 to 74 .Jet engine mechanic Good old times.
I know the case This is the place that is really fun but there is a ecsident of robers that stealing something, in that case the people shutting down the place because there is to much case in there like someone is falling down at the slide, a rober, and so much more and that, s why this place is abandoned. So everyone is need to know this place as a memory 😢😢😞😔
I worked for W R Grace in that building from 1973-1974. Lot of memories. Cooper’s Cafeteria, the rotating restaurant, the women’s lounge . Before they paved Main Street. Wow!
All of the Catskills have gone into the toilet. This is just sad.
Chicago owns Illinois. When politicians let "downstate" rot.
I used to plan the summer picnic there for all the E-One employees for 5 years. It was a great destination and they had access to the Water Park and to the concert side. It was so nice to see parents interacting with their children. They provided dinner and drinks for all our employees. It always started around 5pm and the park was just open for E-One. Great memories
Michael Glasser sprayed agent orange on this base he's 100% disabled and never went to Vietnam...we didn't have to Leroy Foster sprayed it on Andersen AFB Guam 60's and 70's...no lie until we all die!!jus sayin
Memphis is full of abandoned buildings.
Just pissed away.
Music fits the pictures perfectly. Love it, thanks for sharing!
Jeez… It looks very warm and inviting. Very cozy. It almost feels as though the place is waiting for the visitors to come back.
I graduated from high school there in 2007, and so did my oldest sister in 1997.
I was born in Memphis, much great childhood memories, The Mid South Coliseum, i remember my dad took me when i was 3 years old to see the circus.
Did you know that they out things about turning that in the new fc 901 stadium and removed the roof and new seating and more
Memphis ALWAYS destroys any "jewel" of the city. The people that "run" the city are complete IDIOTS!
I have to admit that Specter was indeed an enchantingly beautiful place in the movie and when it fell into disrepair... It was full of sorrows and so sad, but luckily Edward Bloom bought the town's properties, renovated them and the condition was that the residents continue their peaceful lives. If I were a millionaire, in addition to returning the Pacific Electric streetcars to the streets of Los Angeles, I would buy this tourist attraction from the movie and renovate and build it back to its original cinematic glory, with a nice green lawn, but without a road going over it, I would renovate those houses, I would buy them beautifully clean and shiny furniture, beds, sofas and also televisions and Internet connections to the whole town, I would make them toilets and showers, I would paint them the same color as in the movie and absolutely everything so that the city would be both modern and look exactly the same as when Edward Bloom came there for the first time and in this way I would make it either a holiday village where those houses are rented out to tourists or so that in addition to renting they can also be bought. Surely that would be really wonderful and beautiful, wouldn't it?
Love the can of PBR on the nightstand...classy lol
I too was in school at Chanute Refueling school 72-73 i miss this place
Great work on this video. I was at Chanute for my tech school from late July 1971 to November of same year for Airframe Repair. We were housed in these real old wooden barracks that I'm sure were built during WW 2. Great times.
I was in Airframe there also from November thru April in '71/72 and stayed in those older barracks too. Remember the vendor that would come to the door and yell into the barracks, " Hey! Pizza Pop!"
Great to see you still taking vids and photos here in Blues town. There is hardly anything left of the old infirmary off New Getwell we photographed ten years ago. I think they will eventually bulldoze it all. I sometimes drive out there and check to see what is left, and there ain't much. They say that there are abandoned stacks from a Civil war era ammo plant up in Millington, TN. I have never seen it. There is an old building on Lamar Ave North of the lower loop which might be fit for your camera. It is on the left hand side as ya drive Northwest on Lamar... if ya get to Park ya passed it up. Great to see you are still at it. I still have my book that I bought from ya! I quit facebook in 2017, and never looked back. But I miss my friends.... like you and Amanda.
Hey Mark! Good to hear from ya! Thanks for the kind words and tips :) Hope you are well!
The music is funny as hell its just a woman humming lol
How do you get in?
I was there in the late 70s. It didn't look anything like this video shows.
Renovation has begun!! Abandonment no more - about time!
So excited! Can't wait to keep tabs on the progress over the next few years. -- Thanks for the heads up!
I explored it last week. Only thing that’s renovated is the very bottom parking. We only went to the very top. Didn’t explore the building. It was very fun. Wonder what all we missed out on tho not exploring everything
@@user-xp1st3kt6jHow were you able to get to the top? I worked there recently, super sketchy even at day time lol.
My Dad was stationed there during the Korean war. He took me there when I was a kid in the late seventys. The base was still opened and he was proud to show me around telling me of the great times he had. We drove thru many years later but didn't see White hall in this condition. What a disgrace, glad he didn't see it this way.
Can I drift in that parking lot they have
beautiful photos. I climbed to the top by myself a couple times and wrote my name inside one of the electrical boxes hoping this would stand another 20 years for my kids to see. thann you for documenting this for history’s sake.
My late father was stationed there in the late 1940s, early 50s before he was stationed in Buffalo NY where I was born in 1956.
How did you get in? My wife and I are in Memphis this weekend for AEW and I really want to drive by and at least see the outside.
Awesome clip! I am semi close to the area and would love to walk around there. Do you know who I need to contact to gain access for photography?
I believe the area (White Hall) that I photographed have been demolished. I have not been there in over 10 years, so I can't really say beyond that :(
I attended technical school at Chanute in 1970 our barracks were in the old ww2 wooden buildings its really a shame seeing what has happened I really enjoyed my stay ,then off to vietnam . The base could have been turned into a community College or something useful like a general aviation airport, what a waist
Why did it close down
Went by here on a trip back to Kansas City and the entire perimeter of entry is boarded up. Really a shame this place is wasted. But quite truthfully from what I saw of Memphis, everything is wasted there.
Sad to see and shocking how quickly things fall apart and decay. I was at Chanute in the spring of 1991 for weather observing school.
Indeed so sad. I was there from May to Oct 91 for ICBM Maintenance.
I went there right after boot camp in March '81 for non-destructive inspection (NDI). Sadly, I don't remember much about anything and watch alot of Chanute videos hoping to bring back some memories but they're not helping my tired mind. I vaguely remember marching early in the morning near a big hanger to go to class.......Can anyone tell me if White Hall is where I marched to for class? The one picture that has the dome roof makes me think that I marched into that area and then fell out of attention to go to class. Or maybe not
Never abandon it was taken away from the people by the state.
Sep 1981-Mar 1982 spent at Chanute for 341X6 Technical Training (Digital Navigation/Tactics Training Devices Specialist). THey jammed a whole bunch of electronics theory into my 18 year old brain. Also I remember an instructor with an interesting name (SSGT Dick Raper).
Silver Bullet, Osceola's Revenge, Tornado, Hurricane, they all came flooding back with this video. Beautiful. Thank you very much for making this. I miss this place a lot.
I was stationed here for tech school from Jan 1985-August 1985. Even then, my class was the last class for AFSC314X6. Had a great time there. Terrible to see what it has become. Very sad.
I see the facilities for housing homeless vets Barracks chow halls, clinics maintance buildings. But just like the vet it's easy to throw it away now that they are not needed. I was there the winter of 68-69. I remember it was cold.
I remember the brutal winters at Chanute. I was an Avionics System Technician Instructor there from 1978 to 1981. Very fond memories.
Every base I was stationed at, both here and overseas, have closed ….so sad.
Yep, I was stationed here at Chanute for training and as an instructor in Aircraft Avionic Systems. I first came to the USAF in communications, then cross-trained in Avionics. While as a trainee, which is very different than those boots, the top command wanted to keep me there as an instructor. I said no, but I got chosen for instructor duty three years later, from 1978 to 1981. Another AFB was Selfridge AFB, MI, just outside Mt Clemens. It's just north of Detroit. I was there twice, in 1969 and then again in 1972. Went to Vietnam and then right back to Selfridge. Go figure.
