I love how this isn't routine. It's not go up on stage, play the song note by note as previously written, then leave. This is some genuine feeling going into the music through some seriously badass improv. Bravo The Mars Volta!

Check out their 2005 Huxley's Neue Welt show then, it's here on KZread. That Cygnus blows this one out of the water tbh. That show might be their best live performance ever. They also played Cassandra and it was 10/10 absolutely killed it.

all i ever wanted was a Juan cam. i love hearing him and would love even more to watch him. never got to see them live . All I want is a full set steady cam on Juan :(

This may be the best live video of TMV ever. Cedric is normally pretty hit or miss and the mix on a lot of videos sucks IMO, but everything about this is perfect.

This is honestly one of my favorite musical moments in history right now.....The energy in that room must have felt phenomenal. I wish there was a video of the full concert.

incredible. the smiles the whole band shares are the indicator that they knew they nailed something here.

i'll watch this every year of my life until i die...it's still the single most impressive live performance of any band I've ever seen...the guitar and drums are ridiculous!!! the hairs on my neck stand proud!!! :)

A staggering testament to the Mars Volta's one-of-a-kind genius.

I seen about 7 live shows of the Volta. through 2002- 2008 I feel they were at their prime in a musical sense , after that they were just killing it on stage performance and visual effects which I found also entertaining, some of my friends say they fell off, but I beg the differ. They only transcended.

Every time this comes across my feed I have to watch the entire thing. One of the best live renditions out there. I’d love to get my hands on the entire show. Their live shows are unlike anything else out there.

This is was cygnus would have sounded like had it been on Amputechture.

Not sure how you figure that, considering the drums were mastered lower on that album than any other and it was Jon playing in it, not Thomas.

😂 I said that to a few people who "turned on me" .... I informed them the PDX Rose Garden has never had anyone blow the roof off with a "half set" tease opening for System of a Down.... And no band will ever match that day October 2005 at the Rose Garden which is funny.... The place was raided by trolls, and no longer "Rose Garden"...now called the Moda Center. BASICALLY MARS VOLTA IS SUPREME AND THE WORLD IS JUST DUMB

Cedric’s energy just seems so genuine. So bad ass man. Can’t wait for The Mars Volta to tour again.

Saw them 3 times on this tour. They are beasts live. Thomas pridgen is an inhuman machine on the drums that sounds monstrous in person at a small venue like the TLA in philly. This video brings back great memories

My favorite era of this band has Jon Theodore as the drummer. With that said, between _The Bedlam in Goliath_ and this performance here, Thomas Pridgen may still be one of my favorite drummers of all time.

Holy shit they were so tight! I've been one of my favorites for like 8 years. I've never seen a live video. The Mars Volta fucking ROCK!

The greatest band ever

I have heard two songs from the first record, they're in my playlist. I have always known that once I dig deeper into this band, I will never let them go. So I listened to the entire debut album over and over, loved it. I have just started listening på their second album, and after hearing this masterpiece of a song, I just had to see it live. I'll update when I'm done. Edit 1: This is by far one of the greatest live performances I have ever seen. The musicianship is on an elite level. And that drummer 🥰 they really love what they do. It took me 10 years to understand meshuggah, but when I did, my love for the band became permenantly attatched to the core of my soul. I feel like this is Meshuggah in another dimension, and without a 4/4 beat. I believe it is a very deep hole I have began to explore :) Edit 2: If any of you have not heard meshuggah yet, I suggest with the live version of dancers to a discordant system

No words. No f$cking words. Just next level rock. TMV... so epic. There's something about this track that has never left me since the day I first heard it on CD.

IDK what to say about the Mars Volta... there is just nothing that comes close to them... their timing signatures.... their alternative languages... nothing short of WILD... their music is not just sound.. its a whole experience.. Its absolute madness and I cant make sense of any of it and I want to keep it that way.....
