I love Pridgen's take on this song and his playing in general, but the way Jon Theodore played Cygnus live and on the recording transcends everything. It was beautiful.

You have GOT to give props to Juan, he keeps that whole jam together (with Thomas). It is hard stuff, to keep a straight beat in a strange time signature with crazy insane improvisational rhythms flying all your head. P.S. This band is brilliant.

Something just occured to me. As I'm progressing in my late 20's right now and have enjoyed listening but also playing music from a young age, I also tend to listen to alot of other music. Most of it right now is electronic music of all kinds. I'm starting to realise that TMV was the last of the band-formation music groups that truly blew me away. Every musician that has played with TMV is insane. I mean, just look at their drummers? Pridgen, Elitch, Theodore, come on man?! I have yet to find another band to come up and challenge the Mars Volta's legacy. Y'all have a great day.

I'm in the same boat. In the last several years, I've been drifting away from rock and moved towards Electronica and Hip-Hop (which saddens me sometimes...). Since I've been listening to the Mars Volta in 2005-2006, I too haven't found a modern band that I love more than TMV. However, the most frustrating aspect of the Mars Volta is that they did not live up to their potential. They had the talent to become Superstars in rock.

The guitar solo is mesmerising in both its passion and technicality. The interplay when Cedric controls the effects pedals is a stroke of creative genius!. What a chemistry!

I think it's really easy to discount singers, but Cedric is just as creative and as much of a genius as the rest. I don't know of more than just a couple singers in the past century who could write and sing vocal lines as great as his. Especially in the midst of all those time changes he makes the music seem so natural and fantastic. Until recently I definitely under-appreciated his contributions to the band. Long live TMV
