What a hidden gem. I'm an 80's kid, but somehow I never saw this one until now. It was so entertaining and well written. I just loved it. Such a great decade for movies.

An overlooked '80's classic...As a kid of the Cold War, these films about nuclear annihilation are oddly nostalgic.

Fun movie to watch. I noticed a DeLorean sitting in someone's Driveway at the very beginning. Back to the future which came out in 1985 dealt with Plutonium as well as this one did in 1986.

Watched The Manhattan Project on HBO Max It turns 35! Amazing there's a young Cynthia Nixon in this Cool that in this movie they show a genuine map of central New York with all the counties even a road sign that says Ithaca A teenage high school genius sneaks into a nuclear facility and builds his own device Any other context this would be a super villains plot The actual sneaking in and taking the materials scene goes on for 20 min, really could've saved time for a 5 min sequence After that the movie picks up Christopher Colette as Paul brings warmth and charm to the role as a young man scared out of his mind of the destructive power everyone's unaware of Lithgow is really good being the compassionate nuclear weapons designer claiming not to be a killer in spite of him manufacturing devices designed to kill There's also provocative questions and moral ethics about everyone's roles Delivers biting commentary on government secrets, weapons, and war

Even for an 80s movie this is more improbable childish than any 1960s Disney movie like The Shaggy DA. Spy Kids meets Revenge of the Nerds but dumber. I was a kid when this came out who decided that Cynthia Nixon was attractive she looks like a gopher. The hot teenage girls were Phoebe Cates Demi Moore Kerri Green Lea Thompson and of course Molly Ringwald. Guys all wanted Kim Basinger Meg Ryan Madonna Heather Locklear Melanie Griffith Michelle Pfeiffer other this dumpster fire.
