I'm 45 years old and I remember watching this movie frequently, we recorded it on a VHS tape, it's a lot more corny than I remember as a kid, but man, the nostalgia gets me, the movie is so 80's and I was crushing hard on Lea Thompson and Kelly Preston back then.

Crazy eerie coincidence that it was a solid rocket booster failure in this film and the same year it was released the Challenger exploded due to a solid rocket booster failure. The movie actually had to be put on hold because it was due to be released right at the same time as the Challenger accident

Space Camp has Adult programs. I believe you have the opportunity to use a spacesuit to enter a deep pool/tank of water to simulate zero gravity. I’ll be going Summer 2023. I used to work as a Firefighter/ Paramedic,so the challenge seems fun. If you don’t mind studying and memorizing science,it’s something to look into.

This is a serious action/adventure trailer- no mention of the main sub plot of Jinx and Leaf Phoenix. I always wondered if they had originally scored the movie before the Challenger accident and put the slower credit music up front and the original up beat theme they left for the closing credits. Someone also posted that John Williams first total synthesizer piece of music was in Jurassic Park, but their is a montage segment that is all Casio type keyboard synth in this movie. (not to mention Heartbeeps and other earlier scores).

"An impossible mistake." Knowing how soon the Challenger tragedy would happen in real life, hearing that is pretty gutting. I assume this trailer is from well before the movie's ultimate release, since "Space Camp to" opened just 5 months after the Challenger accident. It would have been appallingly insensitive to say that later. With the distance of time we get to appreciate "Space Camp" now as the fun adventure movie it was intended to be. It also was pretty ahead of its time in pointing out the underestimation of women's capabilities and women's underrepresentation in leadership roles on space flight teams. It gave the female characters a chance to take on roles that their real life counterparts had less access to. It's not a deep movie, but it was fun and had something to say. The trailer and credits don't make this obvious, but it's also a very early role by Joaquin Phoenix, then-known as Leaf Phoneix.

I normally hate the Hollywood practice of constantly remaking and recycling things… but in this case I agree with you. This was a movie with a great cast and a really cool premise but it just never quite lives up to it’s full potential, whether that’s down to a limited FX budget or whatever. With a modern remake I definitely think there’s room for improvement… same goes for Flight of the Navigator and Explorers.
