It kind' makes you wonder that if Terry Reid was chosen to be Led Zep's singer, would they have been successful or not as successful? He was definitely up there with Plant, as far as vocal capabilities were concerned, but maybe not quite as good as Plant. There wouldn't have been 'no' John Bonham on drums, because Plant and Bonham was a package deal!

Terry Reid was a great singer indeed. The amount of times this story has come up and folks wonder what Zep would have been without Plant and with Reid somehow come to the conclusion it would still be Zep and Zep songs simply with a different vocalist. Not even close, Plant was the main contibutor of lyrics and later a lot of songwriting input. Not to mention Bohnam would also not have been thought of or ended up in the band. Zep would be very different that's for sure, to say it would be better? Hard to even imagine. Fate is what happened, the way Plant and Bonzo ended up in the band, Jones wife telling him to call Jimmy, all being available right away. Divine intervention of the Rock Gods!!! Those four had magic together, making each better than they were without the others, all four playing...... Sublime!!

Great points there. I always knew Page wanted Reid as the vocalist, but wonder if he had another drummer in mind. Regardless, I'd love to have heard Reid cover a few Zeppelin songs, such as You Shook Me, just to see what they would have sounded like.

I can't get over the sound, range and style of their voices being so similar; just goes to show that Page was looking for such a specific sound and style. In all the years of hearing tributes to Zep and tribute bands, by both professionals and local tribute bands, I've never heard anyone match Plant, so that's why it's so mind-blowing hearing Reid. It's not just about the pitch of their voices that make them unique or else you try enjoying listening to Rush (no thanks!), it's the depth of their voices.

Good video thanks. Terry was/is great. He may have missed out on the big money by not joining zep but he's never been short of work, is respected by his peers and lived a full life. He has something special live which doesn't really come across in videos. The music comes from his heart and his voice is the instrument he uses to express his inner joy, often hitting those ecstatic moments in a live performance and bringing his audience with him. Friends that have seen him playing recently still sing his praises. One of a kind.

I think Led Zeppelin got the lineup they were destined for, but I still wonder what would've come out with Reid in the band, an amazing voice, and playing guitar, too! would Dazed and Confused live been more of a jam? No Quarter have more life to it? Would Stairway have come to be? Like someone else mentioned, it would have been interesting if Page and Reid got together, after 1980. Just to have some fun!

(Of course, many of the songs, being lyriced by Robert, including "Stairway," would not have been near the same, but whatever). I used to think this was the dude from Humble Pie, cos they sound similar, but that was Steve Marriot, a fabulous voice. And while Reid obviously KNEW Bonham, would HE have been able to persuade Stubborn John as well as Plant (I believe) did? Zeppelin without Bonham is pretty unthinkable.

Terry Reed had a versatile voice, he was a good guitarist and a thoughtful, talented songwriter. I particularly like Reed's acoustic songs but if he was with Led Zeppelin instead of Robert Plant, we wouldn't have Stairway To Heaven, The Rain Song, Kashmir, No Quarter or many other wonderful, iconic songs. The individual talents and the chemistry between Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham was what made Led Zeppelin so great. What we would have had with Terry Reed singing and writing with Zep would've been something different but without the Golden God, Zep wouldn't have reached the heights that they did.

Terry certainly had the lungs and the musicianship, but he didn't have the larger-than-life stage presence or the fantasy-figure qualities: He was just a smallish guy with a huge tenor voice and strong rhythm-guitar chops, whereas Robert was someone that every woman wanted to be with, and every guy wanted to BE.

It's quite doubtful that Blackmore asked Reid to join Deep Purple. First of all the only source is an interview with Reid in The Independent from 2007 (!). In the second place Blsckmore famously didn't want a second guitarist in any of his line ups. In the third place the interview got an important detail wrong. Deep Purple didn't lose vocalist Evans. They fired him áfter Gillan had agreed to join. Moreover in the summer of 1969 Blackmore was nót "a hell of a guitarist" (Reid in the interview) yet. Plus Glastonbury 1970 was could not have been the reason, as the interview suggests, that Reid turned an offer doen - the festival was held 15 months later. All this doesn't conclusively refute Reid's story, but it's higly unlikely. Unless there is more relevant evidence.
