I think Ritchie Blackmore should have gotten more recognition that he deserves. When you ask someone who's a great guitarist I always hear either Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page but nobody ever mentions Ritchie Blackmore and I think it's a damn shame, the man is so talented and he belongs in the top 5 guitarists of all time. d d Not only that, but two additional things, one, he didn’t have a bunch of effects pedals to color and clutter up his sound, and he also never really played anything the same way twice. That last one, especially, has always been one of the major ways I gauge the skill of a guitarist. Put your ass out there and risk it and let’s see if you can find your way back home again. He's certainly in a class all by himself! The band was having a hard go of it in Pittsburgh one evening, Gillan was struggling with a sore throat, the openers that night had the sound an absolute mess, & if it could go 'wrong' it did... Then after 1 song, Jon, playing very softly with one hand, waved to the band "Come here" & they did. They seemed to 'huddle' like football players, and after maybe 20 seconds or so, (I have no clue what was said??) these guys were having a huge laugh on stage, & they actually started the show over. It 'seemed' like these guys, veteran rockers by this point, were so "into it", happy up there, having fun as they absolutely killed it from then all the way through the encores. Magical night, one of my top concert memories ever, & Mr. Lord said or did something that night to get his buddies back to "who they were & what they did" as well as any band I have ever experienced... in a matter of seconds, pure genius!
51 years gone by and it sounds even better.

1974, I’m standing at the school bus stop with my best friend. I’m 8 years old. My best friend’s big sister Tracy is there too, sunlight streaming through her hair, lip gloss gleaming...she carries a portable 8 Track player with Deep Purple’s Machine Head jammed into it, Smoke on the Water begins to play and Tracy begins to sway. I am transfixed. I wanted to be that cool. I wanted to be as absolutely, unbelievably cool as thirteen (possibly 14) year old Tracy was right then. Her high school books, (our small town had a high school that included middle school grades) her Pee-Chee, her friggin’ portable 8 Track player and that swaying to the most rockin’ music ever...I became a Deep Purple lover at that very moment and have been since. Bad Ass.

That's an awesome story @Kim Strain. I love Deep Purple too, got to see them live in Florida in the 80's after Perfect Strangers came out. I think we all experienced something like your bus stop story when we were young, often resulting in a lifelong love for a band or type of music or other art form. I remember a family vacation spent at my Uncle Frank's place in the 70's in upstate New York. He was a rocker, played guitar in bands and had tons of rock albums, and one day he played Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I was completely blown away and set out to collect every album they ever made. To this day I remember that vacation and how it influenced my love of music in general and rock in particular. Cherished memories that stay with you forever. Thank you for sharing yours :)

Totalmente saludos desde. Costa Rica 🇨🇷!
Some of the most talented musicians on the planet. To This Day Richie's playing just blows me away. He's one of a handful of guitarist that can move u to tears or give you Goosebumps or make you want to drive your car a hundred miles an hour. What more can I say the purple one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time

This is still the greatest piece of blues rock ever recorded.

The Maestro. Nobody better. Call him whatever you will but no one can touch him live , period 🎯💯👊 Facts
Greatest blues song ever created, one year before I was
The song with the laziest lyrics ever written is called "lazy", but it's one of the most beautiful things that i have heard in my whole 19 years of life!!

Twisted. This track hit me when a was a few years younger than you are now. And let me tell you @ 65 This tune still gets me movin and groovin. If you like this keep searching the late 60's 70's and 80's there are so many groups you will dig (that means like) Keep Rockin young man.

@@yocoach6556 Similar here.. i was ~13 and heavily played my older(11 years older) brother's 8-track of Machine Head. Lazy was by far my fave (then Pictures of Home)..that was 1978.
50 years from now this song will still be appreciated .....that's what happens to timeless classics
Легенда!!! Во все времена и на всех континентах!!! Дух захватывает от их профессионализма!!!
I knew Deep Purple as kid, from older sibling. But love them now all on my own. Machine Head 50 years down the road still rocks like little else.
Never gets old🎸🤟
How on earth did I miss this in 1972? This is absolutely fabulous. The band is cooking with gas!

Deep Purple это классика мирового рока и вряд ли кто достигнет этого уровня.
2 ans après... j'adore toujours autant... la 1ère fois que j'ai entendu c'était durant mon service militaire à Rouen en 77/78
With Blackmore you can ear every note but also distinctly the silences between every note. Nobody but him can do that §
В 1972 году мне было 15 лет... мы готовы были слушать их круглосуточно! И сегодня благодаря им мне опять 15...

Eh. High energy blues rock is a type of music. Other types of great music came along. I actually like a lot of hip-hop. I liked punk, new wave, Talking Heads, U2, Police and the Smiths. And I've bought about five copies of Machine Head in different formats over my long life.

You just don’t know where to look. Stop focusing on mainstream and dig a little deeper. There’s artists today that are just as good, if not better, than the older guys.

@@Justin-hv7eu I read multiple guitar magazines and a magazine called Classic Rock out of England that features new bands. I am constantly scouring You Tube for new artists and have found a few great new bands but it is nowhere near the multitude of great bands from the 60's to the 80's. On another note you shouldn't presume to know what someone else does in the pursuit of new music.

One of Ritchie's best guitar performances. Nuance, subtlety and you can clearly see how comfortable he is on guitar.
