Deep Purple - Child in Time - Made in Japan (1972)

Музыка

Inspired by the Cold War, Child in Time is featured on the band's 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock.
A live version later appeared on the 1972 album Made in Japan. The band were well known for their strong stage act, and had privately recorded several shows. The tour was successful, with strong media interest and a positive response from fans.
I couldn't find any video of Child in Time from Japanese tour. So I created a video of this legendary performance from different concerts.
The urban legend is that man committed suicide with gun when they were performing Child in Time. You can hear it at 10:02
Gillan said: Never heard about that… it is probably a made up fact like most things…
If you know something more, please leave a comment.
A Rolling Stone readers' poll in 2012 ranked Made in Japan the sixth best live album of all time.

this is my dad's favorite song. i remember driving with him in late evenings as a kid and 'child in time' always was the first song to play in his car. as a little kid i didn't quiet understand this music but now i'm so grateful to my dad for showing me this masterpiece. we still listen to rock music in my room in evenings sometimes or watch live concerts together - my 60-year-old dad and me (his 17-year-old daughter). this song will always remind me of those warm evenings in his car and that tenderness between us. i can't express all my feelings in words i just love my dad he means the world to me. he'll never see this comment but thanks daddy for raising me right and showing me real music. you don't know how much i love you much more than you could ever imagine

Who would think a song about war could be this beautiful? Deep Purple, Ian Gillam. Perfect pitch, perfect lead guitar, perfect kb, perfect rhythm section, and 100% pure rock and roll. I might be old now but i will never regret being here for this fantastic music. When younger people think us older folks don't know much about music, i just look the other way, i don't think many would understand it.But, there are some that do, i thank them for that. We grew up hearing music from the great generations of 60's, 70's, 80's. We heard, we learned and we appreciated all the glorious sounds from those days.

I was 19yrs old when this came out! I was Deep Purple mad, i loved their music, still do! I remember when they came to my home city of Newcastle upon Tyne & they played at the City Hall.... it was AMAZING Then i spied a guy just behind me & he was Ian Gillans double... I didnt know which way to look, The stage or behind me. So as we were in the aisles dancing, i grabbed this guys arm & got him dancing... We were a couple for 4 years He really was gorgeous looking But we split up, as we were rather volatile but so passionate We would never have made each other happy though. As the years have passed, and mellowness settled in, we accidentally met up again after 40 years & the old magic was still there. Wed both had a couple of marriages between us but this time we'd really mellowed out & After that meeting we married within 8 weeks... Been blissfully happy ever since Its our 10th wedding anniversary this year... no regrets & pleased we didnt do it When younger. Brilliant song always Peace & Good Cheer to All 🇬🇧👧

  • @TinusAirius

I have always been and still am deeply in love with the middle part of this version of Child In Time, the improvisations in between the sung parts. The tightness of the band, the outstanding quality of each one of the musicians, the interplay between Lord en Blackmore, with Paice and Glover driving and pushing behind it. It is the most genius utter oneness in brilliance that I know of of a band. It is jazz and blues and hardrock morphed into one intoxicating 4 minute eargasm. Purple was my favorite band when I was a child, and this part of this version of this song is the pinnacle of why I have always loved them so much, with Highway Star of Made In Japan as a second. Made In Europe also has moments of brilliance and I also think Come Taste The Band is a great album, even though the line-up and the sound are completely different. But that Purple quality is always there. Love.

This piece is gorgeous, each of them plays perfectly: Gillian is exciting, Backmore makes a spectacular solo, Paice also repeats the minimal nuances of the studio version, perhaps even improving it. Deep Purple are among the biggest rock bands of all time, the so-called British "Hard Rock Triad" was composed by them together with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Three incredible groups at the same time. This album is surely one of the best, if not the best in the world, among live rock records.

One of my favorite if not my favorite guitar solos. I saw DP on this tour. I think they played just 9 songs but if know DP, you'll understand. I miss guitar solos, drum solos and organ solos. On a different note, we had floor seats, general admission in those days, really close to the stage because the crush of the crowd moved us forward. On Space Truckin' when Gillan was belting out "yeah, yeah, yeah space truckin'...yeah yeah.....some guy next to stage right under Lord was banging his head on the stage. Lord said something about it in an article in Cream or Circus, It was exceptionally loud too.
