This series is like a Junji Ito manga; the story starts out very simple, something strange makes its presence known, things get worse as the story goes on, no real/definitive explanation on the story’s entity, there’s no real way to stop it, and there’s more meaning to it than expected. “The Man in the Suit” could have just been a simple analog horror of a suit coming to life and going on a rampage, but Unknowingly actually has thought this story through, giving it more emotional while providing an understandable motivation for Goji. That’s a sign of a passionate artist.💙

We can understand where his hatred comes from while also condemning Goji/The Man for his actions and obsession with taking revenge He turns others into monsters by force and clearly many of them suffer from the pain of getting made to "fill the suit" He kills people just for "daring" to work with Americans It's understandable why the man in the suit acts the way he does, acting with this hate considering what he lost, but not excusable for his actions As he's a complete insane shell of whatever man existed before the suit

I like to think of it as a modern day version of Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. They’re both meta-narratives about the main antagonists of their respective movie series becoming real life creatures that terrorize the crews producing their films.

Fun fact! Im around 240 lbs, the gojira suit was around 100kg or around 230 lbs, this is due to the suit being made from a concrete like mixture, making it incredibly hard to move in as well as being incredibly hot Imagine having to essentially lift me on top of you, with incredibly hot lights blaring down on you, in a suit with little to no ventilation, as well as being surrounded by fire and explosives Honestly only a man who has the might of godzilla could endure such conditions on set

One point of correction. The event that directly inspired Gojira was actually the case of the Lucky Dragon #5, a ship that was in the vicinity of the fallout of the Bikini Atoll nuclear tests. The entire fishing boat was covered in radioactive "snow", and the whole crew would become poisoned by radiation. 22 out of the 23 would recover. The 23rd would be the first person to die due to the Hydrogen bomb. The Japanese were the first to die from a nuclear bomb, and would be the first to suffer deaths from the hydrogen bomb. While the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are obviously linked to godzilla through themes, motifs, and outright references, they were surprisingly not the primary inspiration.

I want to say, this is the second "britally gory fictional fate that doesn't actually jill you inside a animal suit" scenario but the implication its caused by heavy intense radiation makes it worse Personally, my prediction is that the Man wont mutate into irl Godzilla, but will mutate into a barely recognizable blob of flesh and thorn skin and bones and blood splattered and the main danger, beyond of the obvious trauma and horror from a kaiju sized gore of flesh, is possibly that the radiation will keep on going up and the man in the suit will end up becoming so powerfully radioactive he could potentially be like one of the atomic bombs but constantly affecting the surroundings, becoming the very thing he wanted to punish americans for

Love how this series calls out America’s bombing. It’s a war crime to bomb civilians but American history and many Americans will refuse to consider that because it would require addressing a lot of patriotism born on the back of terrorism. Even now if you say that America was wrong to bomb primarily civilian areas people would get mad at you about it, because it challenges the image of Heroic America, it challenges the idea of the bombing being a valiant retaliation against Japan for Pearl Harbor (which, I do not recall Japan using atomic bombs to attack Pearl Harbour, but what do I know I’m just a sensitive snowflake right), they’d get mad that their visage of America as a valiant heroic force is being challenged by the reality of their own actions.

As soon as the shin godzilla movie kicked in, I freaked out lol. Shin Godzilla has to be one of my favorite movies of all time simply because of the amount of emotion you can feel. It intricately captures multiple sides of a conflict, while being able to criticize larger issues. My favorite aspect though is that out of any movies in the franchise, shin godzilla feels the most like the original, and perhaps that is because the directors went in with the same goals the original had: and that is to tell a deep story of tragedy and sorrow. The man in the suit in this way feels the same as godzilla and shin godzilla- while each story is unique, it aims to tell a story, one that all of us shouldn’t forget. It genuinely feels like a love letter to the idea behind godzilla himself, and for that I adore it.

I've always loved the behind the scenes stories from the Godzilla films and its spinoffs. I love how this takes from so much of Godzilla's history, and uses the sounds and music from the series alongside the visuals. You can tell it's a passion project from someone who deeply appreciates Godzilla as a series, and the amount of excellent fan-made works for and about Godzilla made in recent years, alongside the excellent official Godzilla projects, makes this, in my opinion, a new golden age for the Godzilla series.

I find a lot of the horror Vintage Eight makes to be build a sense of dread, and borderline existential. For a stand alone, I recommend checking out their series “Children Under the House.” I also recommend "Sinkhole" but it will make more sense if you see some additional ones before hand.

Technically something like this *Is* possible but not to that degree... (From reading a few books on the subject of how the body can be weird) the human skin can often act like a "vine on a wall" similar to the healing a cut process..theres a story (unsure if its true or not) but this person once sat in a single place so long that their flesh genuinely began to mend and sorround the thing they sat onto. It took a few surgeries to remove the object from their body.. I think there are photos of it (dont reccomend it, im still unsure if the story is actually real..the pictures could be faked) The main reason why you dont see this happening to you is because you dont CONSTANTLY wear your clothes or glasses or something, you also have to do it for a LONG LONG time without moving anything to eventually "trick" the body into thinking what (on your body) is just an open wound to be healed, or a forgien body such as a leech or something. The man in the suit being affected by the radiation most likely sped up this process by an unbelieveable speed, the bite that causes the people to er- mutate can be something like a "Radiation Infection" to do the same to the recipient, id put it similar to a version of cancer and an overcharged immune system on a rampage. Fun Fact: There's actually Marvel comics released in 2021 that has a somewhat similar premise to The Man in the Suit. I'm referring to the "Darkhold: Iron Man" comics, in case you want to check them out for yourself.

This was an awesome breakdown of the series, some very cool theories and the history behind the real productions was incredibly fascinating. It's really great that Unknowingly could answer some questions, somehow he sounds exactly how I imagined, seems like a cool dude :P That teaser was so exciting! I've been dying to do some Man in the Suit inspired stuff in Blender, really cool that we'll be seeing some official 3D TMITS action!

I hate it because people that join the godzilla fandom because of it have the balls to say "is that the man in the suit" on a video about the orignial suit actor's death

Btw lil theory by me. So when godzilla bites i think he releases that blood or smth that mutates the human, like when that toxic blood gets in human it just explodes it and making it stick to the skin of the suit. I mean he has abillity to mutate others.

31:54 On this point. My favorite quote from another video is that both Monsterverse and Minus one equally represent two different era’s of Godzilla. The original meaning with war and the destructive power of nuclear bombs and the goofy era where he was just another monster who on many occasions was a protector of humanity. Nuclear power has become not just a weapon, but a sincere asset that when handled responsibly- is far safer for our planet than other forms of energy, I don’t appreciate the monsterverse slander by calling it “whitewashed.” If you wanna see whitewashed godzilla, like you said- The censored cuts of the original movies and “Zilla” the disgrace that had to have God taken out of their name. TOHO has a great relationship with legendary because they handle Godzilla with care and know that the goofiness fits well with Godzilla. Godzilla represents humanity in many ways. Not just reckless destruction and tragedy.

I love how projects like man in the suit and Godzilla minus one have brought back what made Godzilla such a terrifying character. For a hot minute all studios seemed to care about was “make giant lizard and monkey fight! Oooo look at those effects aren’t they epic? Who cares if everything in between the fights is boring and lifeless all we need is the fights!” No we’re going back to how grounded the horror of godzilla really is.

I know that it isn't the main point of the video, but I always hated when people say that america made godzilla "wacky" or into an "action hero" when toho did that themselves with the showa era and it was widely beloved. Plus, it isn't a bad thing. Godzilla is maleable and can work in any genres, and that is arguably his greatest strength and why he has lasted so long in cinema
