'My Eyes Deceive' and the Future of Roblox Horror

although a topic very different to what you may be used to from me, i saw this as a very important thing to talk about. roblox is in a period of rapid change as of late, and games like these are an example of that. hope this video was worth the wait!

    Genuinely one of the only videos about my eyes deceive that actually treats this serious topic with the respect it deserves, and treats the warning as a real warning, and not just something that the creator 'has' to mention.

    I can’t begin to describe to you the way my stomach sank when I saw that final line of text in the second ending. Good lord. It really disheartens me that content such as this is just readily available for children to play, given how mainstream the internet has become. We’ve seen this fall with places like KZread with all these new content farms, and now watching Roblox start to fall down that slope is incredibly worrying too. Thank you for treating the topics in My Eyes Deceive with such genuine care and gentleness too, as much as these topics could’ve been handled much better in the game itself. Just a great video all around.

    @@inkedpawss but the problem with that is a lot of Roblox games lie and at most set there games to be 9+. And even if Roblox themselves aren't making the games, they should be at least semi responsible for curating their games. If most adult Roblox games were set to be 17+ like they're supposed to, then you would have a point, but 90% of them aren't.

    there's 0 incentive as a roblox dev to make a 17+ game. the method to verify your age requires you to send your id to roblox and i dunno, based on roblox's recent controversies i don't really want them seeing my government id even if they most likely won't misuse it. it's much easier and more profitable to make a 13+ game or some recreation with the edgiest parts chipped away like the one mentioned in the video to maximize the audience. the 17+ bars are easily replaced by the all ages restaurants/hangouts that have much more activity at the expense of what, not being able to serve virtual alcohol?

My curiosity made me feel sick and sad. Being reminded that this actually happens in real life. Making my stomach churn more. It's heartbreaking. It's sickening. But it also makes my blood boil for those who hurt children like this or at all. Edit: I'm aware of the warnings but my curiosity was just too potent. I think next time I'll just.... I feel bad for kids these days, there exposed to so SO many awful things. And because the internet so accessible, one google search can lead a kid down the wrong rabbit hole. And sadly, it seems like parents are to lazy, or don’t understand how such a “harmless video game” can effect a kid so much. Roblox is so targeted towards young children, that parents don’t see the harm in them watching yt videos about it. It’s really sad. Really really sad

As a kid I couldn't play roblox in 2015-2016 because my parents heard rumours of bad stuff but now my sister whos the same age as I was (7ish) has free reign on Roblox and much, much more and when I try to warn my parents about things they shrug it off :< it sucks seeing it happen in real time, especially with the memories of my parents trying to keep me safe as a kid :

    i generally disagree with a big part of the message/idea of the video tbh. i dont think that sheltering kids from difficult and serious concepts is a good thing, rather it can very easily be the opposite. that's not to say that this game or all games with serious themes are appropriate and good for kids, i think the way such topics are handled is very important and i think the vagueness and the way the developer tries to disconnect from these themes instead of being clear about them is not a good thing. serious and heavy topics still matter to children, especially when they are *about* children. educating children on these topics through the medium of fiction can be a very powerful way to help them understand what is so bad about them and can help children undergoing such situations understand that what they are experiencing is wrong and tell someone. it is a similar case to sex ed, where these things are important for children to understand whats going on, not make mistakes, and prevent abuse (this is already a long proven thing btw) the real and far more serious issue is what you brought up near the end, the extremely unmodderated space full of predators and what those do to children. that is an actual issue that needs to be addressed in multiple ways. moderation is important but can only go so far, and roblox is clearly not willing to put in the effort to moderate. better parenting/parents actually checking what their children are doing is another way, sadly as it is right now that doesnt happen much for a variaty of reasons including that in the era of fast changing technology, it can be hard for a parent to keep up and understand how to check on their children properly. the last way there is, is education, a very important tool that can come in many forms, knowledge is powerful and a core part of preventing abuse i'd rather have a child learn about why it is bad and harmfull to interact with these people in the chatrooms than to experiance it firsthand with no knowledge of what is going on and why it is wrong

  • @Wandergirl108

    @Wandergirl108

    I agree that sheltering children is unhealthy, but exposing them to horrific events is only healthy to a point. The sanitation of media is, to me, the same as physical sanitation - preventing children from ever encountering any germs at all is incredibly bad for them, but that doesn't mean throwing them in the sewer is a good idea. Take for example the story of Little Red Riding Hood, which is literally about this exact topic, but portrayed in a way that children won't understand the specifics, just be scared by the idea; that's how to expose children to the dangers of the world in a safe and non-traumatizing way. This game…toes the line, IMO. I'm not sure where I stand on this particular game.

  • @chocomelo454

    @chocomelo454

    The game wasn't made for kids tho and the ending is too vague for kids to understand. The line about her stomach wouldn't make sense tk a kid. They don't know how pregnancy happens they think it just happens. To them it's just an odd addition or will miss what irs implying and think the girl is just fat. And the belt sound... kids don't recognize what that means the way adults do. If yiu play a belt unbuckling sound to a kid, they're not gonna think anything about it bc if they do use belts (which most kids don't) they'll just associate it with getting dressed for bed (or getting home from school if yiu were me. They're so tight I hate belts. But I also love belts.) If you wanna teach kids make a game that will teach kids. This was just stolen and ripped onto roblox. It was made for people who know what those sounds mean. And imo shock never works with kids. I saw a lot of PSAs growing up and shocking disturbing ones gave me psychic damage ong I now am afraid of baby animals. You gotta come at it with some tact all you do to the kid is teach them the wrong thing. Usually they don't get the disturbing shocking PSAs an take it literally.

    horror and kids don't mix, you either get cheap cashgrabs that wont be scary to a toddler or predatory (whether intentional or not) games that talk about or show subject matter that should not be near kids. This was always going to end in a lose-lose situation. Also I don't know where to shove this in casually but on the topic of roblox horror: do you have any opinions on the game Jim's Computer? The story is kinda ehhh in my opinion but I find how it shows the horror to be pretty scary for roblox standards, then again I could be heavily biased cuz I also have to do repetitive habits to feel safe at night, and any disturbance in those habits can cause a lot worse than just going to bed uneasy :/ soo I'd just like to get someone who has more of a brain than me to check it out or smth. idk man someone talk to me about Jim's Computer im lonely

    I honestly don't hate the original (with the caveat that a proper content warning would have been nice). It's friggin' brutal and gross but it doesn't depict its content graphically, and doesn't romanticize. I think it'd be hard to cover the subject, without it being harsh. I guess a more explicit exploration of the good ending depicting the protagonist actually getting help COULD have made it more tasteful, but in a weird sort of way I understand wanting to end on an ambigous and uncomfortable note. There's a lot of valid critique of it to be honest, but I can see the throughline of the dev on how or what they wanted to portray, though not every choice is exactly in great taste, I think it's ultimately well intentioned and with interesting (though absolutely iffy) execution. Roblox port though? Yeesh that's a real bad idea.

Feels disrespectful, especially with this game being re-uploaded to Roblox. The idea of a monster mimicking voices has huge potential, maybe making it that the father was the monster the whole time. KZreadrs cashing in on the Roblox port just made it even worse.

I'm not against dark themes but it's used on such a shallow way, and just steals from a real life case? I'm going to comment to agree with YoshiBoi08 in the comments here, and add my own point. Your video makes sense and is true in most regards, but I disagree with the main point. This game wasn't made for a cash grab, child predatory means, or a silly horror game. It was made to bring light to a horrible thing, which kids NEED, and this is a good format. Do kids need to hear the specifics of SA or assault? No, and this game never says the problems. But kids need to know there problems EXIST somehow, and a game like format where they can understand its _bad_ without needing details is good. The simple way to put it is that seeing the content will make kids aware of it being bad, which prevents them from possibly falling victim to manipulation. But regardless of whether or not they see the content, these things could still happen in real life. And nothing on the internet can stop that from happening, or cause it to happen if it does, but it _can_ make rights and wrongs known early. Speaking as somebody who could have used games like this when I was younger, before it was far too late for me to understand the moral options. (Not in the case of SA, but other types of abuse I will not go into detail about.)
