The main ingredient of Gukesh's success | Trainer Gajewski | FIDE Candidates 2024

Спорт

One of the main ingredients of Gukesh's success at the FIDE Candidates 2024 was his trainer Grzegorz Gajewski. Gaju, as he is called by people who know him well, has played a big role in Gukesh's success. How did Gajewski ensure that Gukesh was ready for this big challenge? What were the things that he did that worked out perfectly for the youngster, difference between Vishy Anand and Gukesh and what are his thoughts on the upcoming match with Ding Liren. This is an interview that will give you insights into a man who is quickly becoming the best chess trainer in the world.

Well done Sagar with these interviews. The way everyone is so comfortable and gives you hours of interviews sometimes exclusively is testament to your hard work you have done over the years and your good intentions and your style of comfortable conversations (never looking for TRP Drama) I remember you said in one of your streams that few years back you would not get even the invitations to cover the tournaments. So happy for you

0:02 "Grzegorz" is hard to pronounce for non-natives and as a rule of thumb Poles never say their surname first. In communist times it was the norm to go surname first, followed by the first name, so this is probably the reason why we find it objectionable.

Gukesh fought while the old guard only woke up when it was too late. The other young guys also fought but caught a few unlucky losses. It could have been anyone, and Gukesh made the best choices in this tournament. The fact that he's so young makes it exceptional, so let's see how he does in a long match. He's been the most impressive young guy for a while now. I do fear that if he wins, his win will be overshadowed by Ding being lost and the best player not even participating.

well to be fair his win will always be overshadowed even if he wins. nepo had the greatest candidates performance in history in 2022, and ding was the only 2800 player in the world other than magnus, yet, they were both overshadowed by magnus not participating.

  • @donramanayake1505

The difference is it has been established over 10 years that Magnus can dominate ding, fabi, Nepo etc. with the young players, who are still gaining in strength Magnus cannot with the same confidence keep holding to that - every generation in chess has been better than the last. The change in guard is welcome and time for Magnus to prove he's capable to fend off these guys as well.

When you interview seconds, can you ask how exactly these top GMs train. Do they just work on openings, or studies? Do they practice in classical time control? Do they do blindfold chess? How do they identify where work could be put? To improve technique do they practice end games? I am asking this because these players are already at the highest level. What more could they train for? I haven't completed this video. Probably you asked.
