Today, we'll take a look at a neat little pen, the Machine Era Markup, a followup to the Machine Era Classic with a little bit more cliption.

I never had the classic, but I love my stainless markup. Funny, the first thing I did when I got it was take off the clip. A couple of notes that you didn't mention, my markup came with both the Schmidt 6040 and a Pilot G2. Another nice touch was that they included 2 clips with the pen.

I love my classic. Incredibly solid pen and works great with a trimmed montblanc cartridge. Works well in the pocket because of it's small size, but wenI've gotten numerous compliments on it. I am considering buying a markup, not because I want to have it clipped to my pocket, but because it will keep the pen from rolling off the table. That is my only complaint about the classic.

I'm glad they made a model with a clip. I have an original one in black DLC and I tossed a Fisher space pen clip onto it. Worked like a charm.

Awesome review. I have this model in black. I really like the stainless model.

The clip works as one would think a clip would, but also as a kickstand to keep the pen from rolling off the table. I’ve liked mine so far; some milling would be nice though.

This is the sleek non-nonsense kind of pen I prefer. As you mentioned I do hope they have a titanium option for a bit lighter weight. Also, another video with a Big Lebowski reference; the Dude abides.

Nick, Quick yes or no question (and I hope you can find a moment to reply)... Will the Schmidt Fineliner refill fit in the original Machine Era pen? I have the brass one that you have, and if it fits, I’d like to try out the Fineliner refill. It seems nice. And I’d like to try something other than my G2 refills. Thanks for your help and for your review.

Totally agree. Got the brass version off Kickstarter. The clip is a huge miss. Way too thin for me to feel like it will reliably keep the pen clipped, and to me it looks really cheap and almost like an afterthought. Only plus side to the clip is that it keeps the pen from rolling on a desk. Other than that, the pen is great.

Brilliant review Nick. Great information, great style of review and I love your humour and those ending puns are always a laugh. Thanks! I really do need to order the Brass original version and then moan when I have to pay 20% ULK import VAT. LOL. 👌🏻😀👍🏻

After the first day my right hand is covered in ink. Due to screwing the cap on the end over and over. I still like it though that will take some getting used to...

I think they removed the grooves for it sliding in and out of the pocket? I love the classic, but I'd rather have a clip, so I'm their ideal customer. Instabuy.

I've owned the classic for a long time now and love it- but I'm considering upgrading to this one. I think your review was very well done, except there was one thing you missed. The clip keeps the pen from rolling around when you set it on the desk. For me, being in college and dealing with small and unlevel desks, this is my biggest frustration. I would probably use the clip if I had it, but I don't care too much about using the clip itself. I care more about getting my pen to stay still on a crooked desk.

IMO The anti-roll feature is about the only thing the clip is useful for. It's so thin and dainty, I just don't see it holding up to being in/out of clipped into a pocket. The gap between the clip and pen body itself is also really tight, so it's not gonna work well on jeans. I can force it onto the pocket of my jeans, but the clip's spring is so weak it won't really stay there. I like mine (got one of the copper models during Kickstarter campaign) a lot, but I don't use the clip. I really like the pen, but I'm pretty let down by the clip to be honest. I think they'd have been better off to just machine a pocket for the Fisher Space Pen clip to fit into - it's a waaaaaay better clip.

the easiest way to get the clip off, especially if you have the black version and don't want to mar the finish, is to thread some dental floss underneath it, slide it to the top of the clip, and pull gently.
