Today, we're going to take a look at a thinner and less dressy version of Tactile Turn's Bolt Action pen, the aptly named Tactile Turn Slim Bolt Action Pen.

Started with a huge leap to buy a Para 3 (first expensive knife). Now I am watching pen and pry bar videos. That escalated quickly! Videos are entertaining none the less.

It all gets out of hand quickly. 1 knife can turn into 100, 1 flashlight, 1 mini pry bar, 1 pen for even a gun turns in to 20 or 30. It's all a big fall 😂

@@rong.2457 i agree with Ron. Just run, don’t go down this tunnel. Turn around! 😂
Just got this ten days ago. I got the regular length, and I found that the issue with only being able to position the pen in one position for writing wasn't an issue. Could be due to the length, or just the way I hold it, but I figured I'd mention it.
Great review - I’ve been thinking about both of these pens and your review has helped with making an informed decision. Thanks!
1:18 well there goes the future hampton inn sponsorship
I have been waiting for this
Nick i need help! What size of O-ring that i need for the hinderer extreme duty pen? Please help me out! God bless you!
Thanks Nick. Just bought one, they did change it a little. Maybe they took your review to heart. Great vid.
Picked one up in exactly this spec. I had to change the spring on mine it felt very gritty.
I don't know if you have addressed this before but what about the direction for engagement and disengagement? I like to push the bolt toward the clip to engage, call it clockwise looking down at the pen. These are opposite and not my preference. Thoughts?
What size bit do you need to remove the clip?
I have the Slim Bolt and Side Click in copper … both are awesome but I reach for my Side Click more often for work.
Does anyone have input on titanium vs copper vs bronze?
Got the regular short bolt in bronze and love it, going to collect all four variations
Do you prefer writing with the slim or the standard? Also, it's clear that the slim pen clip can be removed. can the original clip be removed? Thanks for the review.
The machined clip just looks more premium to me. I have a side click since 2020, and may add a bolt action. Hardware interference in the hand is a good point, & leads me to stay with the longer length option.
AR-15 BCG Look are the screws grade 8 and are they staked?
Yes! I really wanted to like the slim because you can get the clip in timascus, but the clip style kills it. Why can't i get timascus clip on the full sized one?
Nice review my thoughts exactly
Agreed on all points. Wish they kept the old clip. Looks way better and in general, milled clips are stiffer.

I'm on the fence. I like the deep-pocket clip of the original bolt action pen because it is more secure in the pocket; but the look of the optional titanium Damascus clip for both the slim pen and the pencil is so spectacular!
Hi. This one or the bullit campen? Thanks for the tip.
Yea, hope they make a slim version with the traditional clip shape but still offer a Damascus upgrade with a new designed clip just for the slim models. The new clip is nice on the side click pens since you need the top free for the pusher. Have you seen the Limited seasonal Stealth DLC pen for fall 2021?!
That clip is superior in pocket retention and anti-bending. Hate the side click, love the bolt action. Need to try the slim. Have bent out a BAM and bolt action short clip lol
I have a regular titanium with damascus bolt, just like Nick's. Unlike Nicks, the action on mine is rough and sticky; occasionally I need to disassemble the whole pen to unstick the bolt from a useless halfway position. Definitely assume that the one Nick is reviewing is the very best quality-controlled one produced, because mine sure wasn't.

Have you tried sending it in for warranty? Believe they have a lifetime warranty for the function of the pen.
I wish they still did aluminum, the anodizing colors were nice.
Lol I’ve never heard anyone say “ Man, I wish this rode a little higher in my pocket”
Great and valid points Nick!!✌🏻🙌🏻👊🏻 Love TactileTurn though
Thanks Nick
The machined clip looks more premium and the slimmer model is better to hold if you plan on writing a lot. Things to think about.
I like the new clip 😊👍 looks casual
Is it the shorts or the Mini?
Lefty note: they have made lefty versions of their pens in the past (I have a lefty click) and maybe they will again.

This pen just does it for me. Perfect lines. I agree with you about the clip, without even holding it. Must have one, problem is deciding between all the options. Maybe pen & pencil 🤔 Argh
If he could make a slim side click in zirconium with the old style clip and a round button, I'd be interested in another.
Agree 100% on the clip, I prefer the 'deep carry' version of the original, has nothing to do with the look or fanciness, I just prefer not having an inch of pen sticking up out of my pocket. If they come up w/a slim with a deep carry clip I'll be getting it immediately as the slimmer package would be great in the pocket.

Yeah totally agree, for pens deep carry is a huge deal for me. With knives I prefer deep carry but can go either way. Tactile turn said they couldn't use the old clip with the thinner diameter. I have a hard time believing they couldn't find a work around. To me that equals well we have the milled clip and those work on it so let's just throw those on it.

I agree - too much of the pen sticking out of your pocket - too easy to catch in things. I like the look of the slim clip, but practicality in the field comes first for me

Great review and now you make me want to buy the non-slim version. LOL.
They recently changed the clip to something I think youd like more. Deeper Carry.

They take a *lt* of different refills. I'm sure you could find a rollerball refill that'll work - full details at TT's site for each model.
First off, I love the original. It’s my go to work pen when I don’t have to write for hours. If I write for a long period or time, I want a slimmer and lighter pen. So I bought the slim in full size. While it fit the slim and lightness bill, I had problems with the pen requiring me to send back the first and anal the second. The first had a defective clip (and I’m with Nick, I don’t at all like the look of the clip) in which the screws would not lock in place meaning the clip kept falling off. I suppose I could have used loctite but I chose to send it back. The second pen would not accept my preferred Levenger refill which is same size as the G2 and the refill fit perfectly in the first slim pen that I ordered and fits perfectly in the original. So I sent the second back too. The folks at Tactile Turn were great and had no issue taking back the pens. Besides those issues, I found the bolt area in need of chamfering. It was unpleasantly sharp each time I deployed the ink. So while I love and highly recommend the original, I can’t recommend the slim. And as a lefty, I can say that I didn’t like the feel of pen in my hand as Nick described. In the end, I bought a TiScribe Bolt V3. And I love the pen except that I very much prefer the more professional look of the Tactile Turn.
So bummed about the clip, said they couldn't make it happen with the slimmer diameter and old one. I have a hard time believing they couldn't find a way to work around it.
Now if USG will just do a TiScribe Slim...👀
Ordered...🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
I own the non-slim version of the pen and always wish it was a bit slimmer. But I can’t get over the clip design on the slim version so I’m not getting it. If they made a deeper carry version with the clip style matching the original one, I’d be buying it (despite the poor customer service experience I had with the first pen because it actually is a nice pen to write with). New subscriber here - just wanted to say I’m loving your videos and getting ready to do my first knife disassembly.
1st comment. I just got my BAM 3 weeks ago.
Bet it would anno real nice.
As nice as it (they) is (are), I can't get past the $99 price tag. Not saying the price doesn't match the machining and material involved....just that for me, that price disqualifies it as a PEN for me.

My old lady is now referring to nick as nick shabbat.
now we wait for Tactile Turn and Kara's Kustoms to spend the next year releasing slim versions of their bolt-actions while constantly saying they're working on slim versions of their click pens. I don't understand how there's a difference in making a slimmer click pen if they've already got the barrel design for slimmer pens.
Old clip is far superior for sure
The little button/disc your thumb presses and moves to open/close the pen is not the bolt. The bolt is the part inside the pen to which the thumb button is attached - the part that moves the ink cartridge. The button is a "bolt lever".
Milled clip on knife = good, but milled clip on pen = bad?
I know different strokes and all, but the original clip is super boring to me. I love my copper slim boltie and as a righty, I hold it most comfortably the way the video shows lefty grip. YMMV, as always.
Yeah I like old clip better 👍
The normal Bolt Action clip is simpler, and better because it tucks away well in a pocket. The slim clip makes the pen stick out of the pocket way too much.
I'm all for tool-ish EDC since I'm a Civil Engineer, but heck that shallow clip is NO for me. I ain't spending a $100 on a pen just to lose it, until they change that Clip I'm sticking with my rOtring 600
That new clip makes it look so much more sophisticated and modern. The original looks like the Amazon 30 dollar pens being made in China
thanks
I would get this if they didn't charge that much for the timascus hardware
Everyone steals the pens from Hampton Inn.
I completely disagree on the part about it being less dressy. The 3D machined clip looks much higher quality compared to the simpler bent metal clip on the original, and combined with the thinner pen it substantially dresses it UP. Why would a fat pen appear more "classy"? If anything it appears less sophisticated and elegant, just like a big watch. You are dead wrong IMO.
Twist: Nick steals a new pen from the Hampton Inn for every video.
The bolt will always become loose! Very disappointing
Knowing the reviewer got it for free ironically makes me not want to pay for one.
Ohh hey, more bolt action pens... 🤦🏻♂️
But it is just a pen!? You can buy metal pens for very little money, slap in an all weather filling and done right? Honestly, this is such an overpriced category. Saw regular pens costing 78 euro...... really, just a black aluminium pen.......
