    The sight glass on all Yamaha XT225 motorcycles is behind that hole in the bash plate. I advise running it at the very top. It does not have much oil capacity. The filter (which you clean, not replace) is up above the sight glass. Under a round cover with 3 different kinds of bolts in it. The XT225 is the best small displacement dual sport ever made/ I have a 2001 model that I have made about $3000 in modifications too. Over $1000 of that went into the suspension (I weight 240) Clarke 4 gallon gas tank, Renthal bars, lever guards, better mirrors, kickstarter from an TTR-225, aftermarket centerstand, seat concepts seat kit, rear Immix Racing rack, Dunlop D604 tires, 4mm thick super heavy duty tubes, Tusk tank panniers, foam grips, an FMF exhaust, rejetted carb, stock airbox with a Uni filter, and a number of other things. I also got a 70% complete 2003 parts bike with a 1200 mile engine in it, food frame, wheels, and a lot of other stuff. It has been stone reliable for almost 30,000 miles, most of that off road and dirt roads. Properly set up, these bikes are better than any other size. They will eat a CRF250L for lunch. And they have that simple carbureted, air cooled engine with screw and locknut valve adjustment. Maintenance couldn't be simpler.

    About your key. I lost my one and only key for a bike I had years ago. The guy at the locksmith shop pulled the tumblers out of my helmet lock and hand filed a key just by looking at the shape of the tumblers. In less than 20 minutes I had a new key that worked perfectly. I think he charged me $15. Ironically enough, I found the lost key about two weeks later.

    Doug Maverick yeah its a great bike. This one in particular runs weird, sounds weird, smells weird, has bent hand guards, collapsed forks, is missing the front sprocket gaurd, was leaking gas, has rust inside the tank, and at one point it was stolen. That's what I'm complaining about.

    @@FridaysTheBomb you should replace the gas tank with a plastic one then have the carburator rebuilt. The rust will screw up the carb. You can get a bigger gas tank while you are at it. It's a nice bike. All you have to do is fix everything you are complaining about.

  • @commandermcfadden817
    @commandermcfadden8176 жыл бұрын

    I love my xt225. It's light, 6 speed , killer mileage. I would like a plastic tank though , because I know what thus dude means about rust in the tank. If left hidden for a long time it'll get rust in the tank which can flake off and clog carb. jets .

    The sight glass for your oil is more forward inside the hole on the skid plate. The part that's blacked out is where your kickstart would be if it had one.

    I know this is an 8 month old video but i bought a 2006 XT225 off the showroom floor. I bought it for my wife but i ride it a lot for fun. I have taken it in some very gnarley terrain and it always got me thru it. I have owned many bikes and this XT is the most dependable bike I have ever owned. I adjusted the valves once ( only very slight adjustment needed) at 10,000 miles. In my opinion, it is the best small dualsport made. I also have a 2015 XT250 for me but I only have 2500 miles on it. The fuel injection sets it apart.

    Nice little bike ha one couple years ago, mine was stolen from my shed on a rainy night it was in new condition and the bike my son learned how to ride. I only had liability insurance with Geico but they paid me more money than it was worth. The police called me 4 weeks later and said they had the bike, when I got to the tow yard it was so destroyed the insurance totaled it. I will say great bike for trail riding, thanks for the story.

    Nice video and nice bike. :) BTW - the oil level window is located just behind the hole on the right side of the skid plate. The solid metal thingy you were looking at is actually the place where you would put a kick-starter. Just look to the right, beneath the oil filter. I know it isn't easy to find and it could be painted over if someone did a lousy paint job on the motor.

    I have a similar stolen vehicles story. 1971-My 1967 GTO convertible was stolen. I had my craftsman toolbox full of tools in the trunk. I had no insurance on the car. I was only 19 and I could not afford full coverage insurance. Three days later, the police called,it showed up 20 miles away. I thought when I got there the engine and transmission would be out of it the top would be ripped if it was still there, and my Keystone mags and tires would be gone. To my surprise, the car was actually clean, the gas tank was full, and nothing had been disturbed...they did take my box of tools.

    Anybody can key a lock without changing the whole lock itself. You just take it apart and match up the pins, not good at explaining it but I watched my supervisor do it all the time on a sorts of door locks at the place I used to work. Or if they can get away with it you can give the dealer the VIN number and they can look up what key was made for that vehicle or bike and make a key. All that info is usually in the original paper work at the dealer/manufactures business. You generally have to have proper ID and proof that the vehicle is yours and since you said they had a title already then it would be easy, at least until the DMV or police run the VIN.

To many idiots out there stealing (especially in CA), I have no idea how to prevent it.. I was thinking some kinda alarm or GPS tracker if its stolen.. idk. Drew's XR650L disk locks will help, but there is another option thats a disk lock with an alarm in it that will go off if it sense any vibration. i almost bought one, but since the bike was in an apartment parking lot, cars drove by it all the time and i figured id have a problem with false alarms all day. my 650l was chained with a 1/4" chain and 3/8 master lock. the person attempted to cut the lock and failed, then decided to cut a link off the chain. i assume after that the bike was thrown into a truck or something. the bars were not locked

    Some low lifes will have the title, but put in for a lost title replacement with their DMV. They then sell the bike and after a spell steal it from the party they had sold it to and then resell it. Along with a spare title, they also have spare keys. If the value is under a couple of grand, the Government will not bother with the case. Sometimes if the value is higher they will not find the Perp guilty because they don't want the expense of putting them in jail. My bike got stolen and that is my story. The Judge said maybe the Perp's landlord stole it. Three times they postponed the case the day before court hoping I would not show up the next time.

    Man I would say this is probably exactly what happened, but the guy I bought it from lived almost an hour away, and was really nice. His kids came out and said hi to me when we were looking at it and everything. Just didnt seem like the type who would, or even could get away with doing that.

    @@FridaysTheBomb I am not the best judge of character. Lots of great people have ripped me off. If a con artist seemed to be a con artist, it likely wouldn't work for them. I would think with today's computers it would be hard to get a new title after it was on the stolen list. To forge a title, why would they go after a $1,500 bike when they could forge a title for a $20,000 bike? Anyway water under the bridge for both of us.
