To those saying this car is slow.... They are running it slow to not risk wrecking such a cool piece of history. Yeah it would be awesome to see it flat out. Cars are meant to be driven, etc. But understand this is a museum piece and be glad for the chance to see it drive at all.

G Spawn That's because Jet engine throttles can take a while to spool up or down. That's why piston engined military aircraft were used up into the 50s and 60s in some countries, the engines were far too slow to react compared to piston counterparts.

@@KevinJDildonik well, they are using a PT6. it's a free turbine design so you could, in theory, run the engine at max power all the time and control the speed entirely with transmission and brakes. but with what they had available at the time this was built, i doubt they could have feasibly done that

It also only runs on one "gear" so it accelerates relatively slowly at first (like a kart would), and in that hillclimb they don't really get the chance to floor it. I tried it in Project Cars 2 (not the best simulator but the only one I know that has this car) in the old Le Mans track (which has a super long straight) and boy is it fun though. When that thing gets speed it really feels like a jet plane accelerating in the runway. Edit: I just noticed someone already explained this better than I did

I watched this car race at the Indianapolis 500 on tv when I was a kid. It was blowing away everyone. No one could keep up but it broke down a couple of laps before the finish. They immediately cut the jet engine size 50 percent so no one would be successful afterward plus no more four wheel drive. It scared the hell out of its competition.

It takes a very brave man to drive fast in that particular car. Speed is not the problem, but braking very much is, the car is in constant drive & attempting to fight against the turbine engine torque with the brakes is very tricky, & the turbine usually always wins over the brakes.
