I’ve had one of those bad dreams
Where we’re standing on your street
I quit smoking those cigarettes
But I’m never getting over it
And you’re looking right through me
Just like Shakespeare wrote a tragedy
‘Bout our story never finished it
‘Cause our love we never finished it
I’m coming over tonight
Knock on your door just like before
I need that look in your eyes
‘Cause we’ve had the loneliest time
I’m thinking over the night
I could be yours just like before
Rewrite another try
‘Cause we’ve had the loneliest time
(If you wanna try it, if you wanna try me,
If you wanna try love, baby leave the light on for me,
If you wanna try it, if you wanna try me,
If you wanna try love)
I’ve had more of those bad dreams
You were ten feet in front of me
I went running but I couldn’t catch
Just the shadow of your silhouette
Then you spoke the words to me
When you left, I still need to unpack it
Let’s save sorry for another night
‘Cause this time love, we’re gonna get it right
I’m coming over tonight
Knock on your door just like before
I need that look in your eyes
‘Cause we’ve had the loneliest time
I’m thinking over the night
I could be yours just like before
Rewrite another try
‘Cause we’ve had the loneliest time
(If you wanna try it, if you wanna try me,
If you wanna try love, baby leave the light on for me,
If you wanna try it, if you wanna try me,
If you wanna try love, baby leave the light on for me)
What happened was
We reached the moon
But lost in space I think we got there all too soon
But you know what
I’m coming back for you baby
I’m coming back for you
And in the morning
Sun hits the water
Is this nirvana?
And in the morning
Sun hits the water
Is this nirvana?
And in the morning
Sun hits the water
Is this nirvana?

modern pop music went through a 70s vibe resurgence in years 2020-2022. They have already moved on from this sound.
It's been a year and this song is still stuck in my head. The harmonies... that violin. It's a beautiful timeless song.
This is probably one of the most well orchestrated pop songs in recent years. The harmony and vocals compliment each other perfectly.

This is catchy not in the way modern pop songs are, but in the way that older songs are. Like there might be a moment that stands out and goes viral on TikTok, but I think the overall song is very earwormy based off it's feel in the way that older songs weren't about having one hook. Another thing I really love about this song is that you can tell she really loves what she's doing and that Rufus also loves what he's doing. This feels like a very genuine song. Also they're both from Vancouver so it's like she's supporting artists from her region of Canada which is pretty sweet.

Genuinely a queen. I just cannot understand how someone can be SO treasured by a massive cult audience, so beloved by musicians and singers the world over, and consistently put out absolutely peak tracks like this, and still fly under the radar of so many. The music video is incredible, and the song itself is legendary... and honestly, it would increase my appreciation for Carly Rae Jepsen even more, but at this point that's not possible. It's max; I literally cannot love her any more than I do.

I sereously think this is one of the best pop songs made in recent years. It's upbeat and nostalgic at the same time, it makes you feel happy and it makes you want to dance, it's catchy and the harmonizing is spot on. Also love the disco vibes, and the vintage esthetic.

only issue i have is the production of modern songs is it sounds too clean? like the high quality audio we have now is great but but lowkey takes the soul away from a song. like it sounds too sterile. not quite sure how to explain it. old songs sounded "warmer" somehow. also real drums need to be used more. we basically just need more real instruments. i love electronic music but certain things just can't be replicated with a computer.

also i recommend the group tennis if you're looking for 70s/80s pop vibes. the have a lot of the same issues i mentioned in my previous comment but they're still good. also weyes blood sounds like she came right from the 70s but her music is more folky / joni mitchell vibes.

@@hv5516 this. So much this. The bop present in that bit with chord pattern on retro instrument isn’t even present throughout. I actually suspect that’s because it would be too much of a ripoff otherwise, as that part sounds very much like existing songs.

What are the odds of two voices so unique Coming together to form such a masterpiece. Rufus wainwright is extremely underrated and has the most amazing voice on the planet. He pairs so well with her.

This song needs WAY MORE attention. I love that 70's disco/80's pop sound. Also, the galactic aesthetic is just✨✨✨
Carly's visuals always surprise me. She's so creative, and the visuals combined with her songs are just perfect, she's definitely one of the best artist in the industry.

IMO it's the goat of pop songs, can't be denied lol
Always had a bit of a soft spot for Carly because I used to fancy the hell out of her as a teenager (still do tbf lol) but pop's not really my bag, I'm more of a punk/metalhead. This song's been getting a lot of play on the radio at work though and I massively dig it. Their harmonies are genuinely delicious on the ear and are mixed to perfection. Really, really well thought out and put together tune; you don't have to be a fan of a certain genre to appreciate an amazing track 🤘
