Norn is also at that age where kids tend to idolize their parents. She doesn't know her mom as well she knows her dad. She might intellectually know Paul is a flawed man but hasn't really internalized it yet. It's the same as known a skyscraper is tall vs standing at the main entrance and looking up.

Well, also, despite his flaws, he did always treat her as a priority and so she didn't really see the things about him that Rudeus and his party members saw. Whatever you hear about somebody, really, you can only judge them on what they're like to you, and he did do his best for her. As a little kid, she can't really understand things like, him being stresed out and drinking too much, she just understands he loves and protects her. She understands nothing about Rudy, really. Yet.

What really confuses me about people being upset about Norn and Ruijerd is that it’s the same situation as Rudy and Roxy. One of the them is an immortal being who spent some time with the other when they were a child. Then they were separated for years before reuniting when the other was an adult, and got married.

@@whimzycloud Roxy didn't have any romantic feelings for Rudeus until he saved her in the Labyrinth. When she asks about him during her travels it's out of concern for a disciple who she cared for as a teacher. The romance didn't occur until she literally experienced the scenario of her dreams - a young but handsome man rescuing her in a time of need.

Norn is an incredibly complex character who challenges the reader's perspective on several occasions and she's one of the most humane too. No wonder she's one of my favorites.

I really enjoyed Norn being included in the story as it does help to give a bit of context of what an average person for the events of Mushoku Tensei , someone that is a bit more relatable to me at least.

Yeah, I don't personally find her relatable, but I think she's that kind of character where everyone knows someone like her or knew someone like her at school, so her perspective and involvement kind of adds this dimension of normality. With isekai often that comes from the MC, but with Rudeus being such a strange character to begin with a Norn type gives that aspect.

I love you mentioning the Aragorn and Arwen thing.

I've already read the whole story but it was nice to get reminded of it. Normal person surrounded by geniuses is really an interesting trope that i wish was more common.

I really like Norn character development in the story and I like how she goes on to become the student council president after Ariel

Been loving S2 Part 2 so far. The best part of the season’s release is more discussion content from you. You helped me really appreciate the show and series as a whole.

The author also utilizes Norn (and to a degree Cliff) as the viewer's/critic's stand in within the story; voicing out the common criticisms/complaints a viewer may have about our MC or his choices. It's a clear sign of how well the author knows what they're doing.

They're both supposed to be pretty, I just meant she is average in every respect except prettiness, which is genetic so not really something she thinks about, and which is just like, well, the author wanted the main characters to either look pretty or otherwise interesting in the illustrations, so a plain mediocre girl wouldn't really be as good!

Well, thanks to you I've started rewatching Mushoku Tensei from Season 1 on. I'm completly amazed how much was already foreshadowed in the early episodes (e.g. Rudeus whishing for a beautiful girl falling from the sky as he watched the red sphere in the sky, just for Nanahoshi to appear when the teleportation calamity happens in full), and how entertaining they are even after a few watches. I feel almost a bit apologetic for entering your comment section so strong the last time because of the "age-(gap)-question", which I hate with a burning passion , as there isn't anything more useless and insecure then being concerned about the age of fictional characters. I appreciate your approach of analysis, which is much more calm and far less judgemental then other anitubers I'm aware of (with the exception of Rev). My apologies for not being able to pinpoint your accent to a specific time and location, as I'm living north of the Alps, so I'm not that tuned to hearing different English accents. Nuances are usually lost on me unless it's over the top. (Your video on Dubs was very englightening, thank you for that) I have to admit that I'm now completly spoiled on Mushoku Tensei through your videos, which I'm fine with as I don't want to wait another 5 years until we get to the midpoint of the story. And of course there are still the Light Novels which are still interesting to read. Just because I know the destination(s) doesn't mean I can't enjoy the journey. Way I always saw it, being with in a couple years of each other is great for younger ages to support the connection through a level of equality in life experiences, maturity, and by extension easier and more effective communication, however as a person gets older that "support" while helpful ultimately pales to the value of a meaningful connection, and at that point the difference between the twos ages in maturity to equal out, and its not unheard of for a childs admiration to mature into love as they grow and mature (we have so many I fell in love with and married my teacher stories for a reason) What matters most is that the youngest member of the relationship has reached a level of maturity to make such a decision (that age varying by upbringing and beliefs)

I think the reason people have a problem with this relationship is, that they have only seen Norn as a baby or child. It is unusual for Anime characters to age much during the story, so the baby Norn is stuck in some peoples head.

Yeah, it does make sense, but then, isn't it an easy transition to seeing say, Aisha as an adult when you've literally seen her become CEO of a company? I get the sense you got from it, but you can remind yourself of it and not have it feel jarring because you read it. I think a lot of these people who complain just haven't read it and are like, wait, that little kid marries that warrior guy?

@10:20 oh but when Connor McCloud of the clan McCloud does the same thing more than once it's acceptable. Ruijerd didn't groom Norn or even show any interest in her beyond the fact she was a child in need of protection and then much later a grown woman that he knew of previously. People are so quick to jump on the bandwagon of judgement when it comes to this story.

I always wondered how Orsted knew Paul was supposed to have only 2 daughters when he first met Rudeus. I didn’t know about Luicelia. This must have confused or even angered Orsted to have someone claim to be the brother of Luicelia’s mother traveling with Luicelia’s father.

Norn got delt the bad hand in teleportation incident being with her Dad (great survival skills not so good parenting skills). Paul is deep in the bottle and depression at failing to find his family Norn has a front row seat. Rudeus shows up, and Paul fucks up reuniting with Rudeus, with some arrogance from Rudeus thrown in. She sees someone that apppears stronger then her father and it's her brother. Norn has had zero normalcy she can remember gonna take a bit to work through it, but the one thing she needs to do sit down with Rudeus and clear everything up. That will do the most good emotionally for her, which they will eventually do.

If anything, she got a good hand, If she'd been alone, she'd have just died. Paul could help them survive and also, wanted to, because he loved her. For all his flaws, he did show her he could provide, and keep her safe. He was a good father to her, but succumbed to the stress in a way an adult would see but a child wouldn't. The way she feels about him makes total sense - all of it does, really.

People on twitter really acting like they would baby sit Norn even as an adult to prevent her from getting with the love of her life. Ugh its so dumb. Let a grown ass adult do what she wants sheesh... I mean sure Norn might still have some over idolization towards Ruijerd but who tf is going to deny them each other.

It's a setting where fate exists and she is fated to be with him, it happens in every single loop. But nah, they just can't handle that a character that is a cute little girl might later in the story be an adult and choose to marry him.

Turns out the plane isn't freaking me out as much as I thought. While Norn isn't my favorite, she's just kinda there, I do relate to her in some regards, like I've mentioned on X, so an alright character in my books.

It's not so bad, for me I get more bothered by the claustrophobia than the worry about being in the air. I don't like the lack of control, but I feel the same way when I'm on a train that is stopped in the middle of nowhere waiting for something to clear so it can continue - that situation has no danger involved at all but it gives me anxiety because I'm just stuck in a metal tube full of strangers until some things outside my control allow me to leave haha. You'll probably find that flying is not really scary so much as frustrating in time, too

You did it, though, it'll feel routine after a while. First time I was on a plane I was like 4 and I apparently squeezed my dad's hand so tight during takeoff that it hurt him. imagine being hurt by a 4 year old girl's grip lol - I must have been really scared!

I don’t think the age difference is necessarily the issue, it’s more that they had a relationship more akin to like an uncle neice type relationship prior to norn being an adult. So the existence of that prior relationship is what makes is weird at least for me. The other loops are fine cause that prior relationship doesn’t exist and they meet first when they is both adults.

They didn't, really, though, I mean, they only knew each other for a few months when she was a kid. He always protects children, that was established, so he was no different with her than with any other kid. He made a big impression on her, which is understandable, but then they just never saw each other again until she was an adult. It's not like, to his mind, he did any more than be a bodyguard to her - he didn't raise her or even watch her grow up as a family friend like an uncle type person might.

I keep forgetting that a comment helps the algo, I do love Norn because she is the everyman in the story (but I love most of the characters for one reason or another) I hope the ko-fi has been helpful and I have 4 more weeks of renfaire. so try not to stray too much

The people that complained about dark anime are the anti's, and the best part is when they complained different anime, they end up being a big hypocrite about. I seen about 2 small youtubers that complained about "anime fan service", and I end up seeing fan service in there likes with many other degenerate stuff in there to.

MT isn't even that dark, I mean, there are dark storylines but it's mostly quite optimistic. It's not dark as a setting like Goblin Slayer or Berserk or whatever other stuff you might class as grimdark, or even Re:Zero which isn't a dark setting but is very dark for the MC. It just has stuff in it that people freak out about...

I've noticed that. Seems like she did because Aisha literally mentions it and Norn just says she doesn't remember her that well - she knows that Sylphy was around when they were kids but doesn't remember it, and the last time she saw Rudy he was with Eris, so that also looks sus to her. She's just a kid.

I like them as a couple and don't really care about that sort of thing in my fiction, but she was at least always with Seshoumaru as she was growing up so I can kinda see why people who care about that sort of thing in stories might see it as weird. Here Ruijerd and Norn don't actually see each other from the age she is in the anime now, until much later in the series when she's all grown up, so while he is still influential to her, she's not even seeing him, she just admires him.

@@NatalieXHunter sometimes I get the cold feeling we may not get a sequel.. The story could just end on an open-close note... We know in the end, Spitogami is defeated by Orsted, so Rifujin could just call it quits. Mushoku took him years to write and rewrite. I think Lucillia would be absent most of the story, like Ruijerd until the sh*t really hits the fan and the world is in danger, probably when Laplace is reborn. A Lucillia vs Seighart battle would be Epic, before Lara shows up and puts a stop to it or something. So many great ideas to execute but who knows if and when we'll read this anticipated sequel 😥

Actually it only took him 2 years to write the WN (all 26 volumes), and the rest of the time he's been rewriting it for the LNs while also writing another series. I don't see why he would want to quit, especially not now there's an anime. Just seems like being needlessly pessimistic. He said he'll do it and there's no reason to think he won't, or that it'll take 20 years or whatever.

@@NatalieXHunter because most anime/manga/LN never get completed or have a sequel. The fact that the anime has now pretty much surpassed the manga now, too is what makes me pessimistic. I started reading the manga in 2016, then moved to the novel because of the constant long breaks between chapters. The latest chapter is "To Begaritt" and the anime is "Turning Point 3".. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if there never was a sequel because we All know what would happen in the sequel: Laplace is reborn and defeated, Hitogami is defeated and speculations on a Greyrat sibling squabble... Not exactly mind-blowing like the 26 volumes of MT. We enjoyed this novel series so much because of the unpredictability of the story and where it was heading to. Most people thought it was just a typical Isekai until Turning Point 1. Personally, I'd prefer a story during the 2nd human/demon war with North God Alek Kalman 3rd and how he managed to persuade a Demon King to marry him and bear his child, or, a Orsted side story similar to Old Dragons Tale, that details some of Orsted's loops, his opponents and how they end upon Laplace defeat.

It's there an story with Eris and cat women training? 🤔... To make an season of it?

Yes, but I think it'll be an OVA. The girl with blue hair who we saw in the Badigadi episode in S2 part 1 is related to that story, so the fact she was included means they'll definitely animate it, but I see it being either and OVA or an episode 0 for season 3.

I fully ship it as well. Like, the final loop, when all is won, Orsted gets to live out his days with a long lived woman who understood the fight and who was related to key people Orsted knew in the lore, I just want that to be what happens.

@@NatalieXHunter I think I didn't make myself clear enough. Have you watched Edge of Tomorrow? Over many,. many, manymanymanymany loops, Toim cruise's character starts to care A LOT about Emily Blunt. Maybe even falls in love with her. They even fight because he keeps trying to save her. There are hints that the same happened to her in Verdun. I see some interesting storytelling possibilities of hims being super caring of her and people not understanding.

Well, I'm not American, so I don't think it's that. I say it that way because it means 'the race has a long lifespan', not 'the character has lived for a long time'.

It's hard to say, really. Zenith isn't a normal person after the MTI and I didn't want to go into that in this video. Norn is the one who really observes the religion and takes comfort in it at times.
