To be realistic, most people wouldn't really like transporting to another world suddenly. Also, the longer you are stucked somewhere away from home, the more you want to return. Unless it is nothing but bad memories.

I mean she was also transported to that world and the world itself was constantly rejecting her. Her body is literally incompatible with it - prolonged exposure to the world would result in her death. Add to the fact she can't use magic, and the world is just outright worse.

I think the thing is, everyone's experience and whether they want to go home more than they want to stay will be shaped by two things - how good their life was at home and how good it is here. If you take someone like Rudeus, it's easy - he had nothing in his old world to miss, and here he had the opportunity to learn magic, make a lot of friends, have a good relationship with his family, etc. He has no regrets when it comes to staying in the new world, and a lot of people might relate to that. For Nanahoshi, her experience in the old world was fairly good and she was only 17 - she didn't need to 'redo her life' with a new chance because she hadn't had a chance to live much of it yet, but it was going alright, and she had people she misses. In the new world she can't use magic, can't speak any of the languages at first, and starts to get sick just from being there. It's like if you replace 'another world' with another part of this world. If you got suddenly dumped into the middle of a desert in a faraway country where nobody speaks your language, it doesn't matter how cool and interesting the animals and the local culture of the first place you eventually come across are, you're not going to have a good experience and you'll be doing whatever you can to get enough money for a plane home. But Rudeus' situation is not like that. Most isekai protagonists are somewhere in the middle, and either come to want to stay because of the connections they make or can't go home anyway. I think Akihito will represent that middle ground - someone who will think the new world is cool and interesting and who will start with some advantages (not as many as Rudeus, not as few as Nanahoshi - given he won't be able to use magic but people will have prepared for his arrival), but who will also have reasons to miss home. As I said, kinda like Subaru.

Just finished Volume 10 and Nanahoshi being at the School & the reaction right after was priceless with her joining the school group (Everyone at the wedding party)

Poor girl, she just wanted to return home. She's just a normal student. I would have gone insane if I were summoned to an unknown place. :(

All keep coming back to Rudi tho. She didnt die, yet becomes part of this mess. I believe this was due to Rudi's final thoughts and his feelings towards her as she speaks about him even though he just saved her. Rudi somehow cursed her even if unconsciously or by accident.

After reading Redundancy, I wonder how's Nanahoshi doing after Rudy died. He always there for her so she won't be lonely. It would be sad seeing your close friends slowly growing older everytime you see them.

Only her human friends. Unfortunately, she would have to witness the death of Perugius. Sylphy and Roxy and their children will still be around. Lara is off looking for a large enough mana pool. For what she's not clear on, but she's also looking for a man, who she won't find until papa has passed. Papa has lots of mana, which they are currently reliant on. No papa, no mana; find mana pool, find man... strikes me as an alternative Akito or what's-his-face Nanahoshi boyfriend teleportation to since up the timeline; remember, without Rudy and Nanahoshi, the loops are a failure, but with Rudy, the current loop won't need the initial teleportation... paradox.

Nanahoshi is a very interesting and unique charackter in the broder scale of Isekai. Low-key, the author of mushoku actually wrote 3 different isekais into one story. One looks at it as a new start from a life they'd given up on, one looks at it as an inconvenience and loss to the life they had, and the 3rd was already one time given the standard "royal summoned hero" shtick so he just went with the flow. Interesting concept. It's like he started with Akihito and branched off that idea but he wrote it in after lol

Yeah, the author is amazing. Actually, I would think the author envision Rudeus journey first, then branch out from there, first was the total opposite Nanahoshi, then the middle ground. The author stated he was also a NEET, but his family supported him in his roughest patch, so he was really grateful for that. So he wrote Mushoku Tensei that signify redemtion and family theme.

@@nguyendi92 that's the beauty of perspective, most typical authors probably would've done the reverse, set out to make a cheery hero style Isekai and throw in a character like Rudeus after the fact but tenseis author set out from a unique starting point and just kept adding new layers and twists to it like showcasing two separate and different scenarios of reincarnation with one of them being the typical version, 'royal summoning', and another being the less typical 'struggles to fit into their new world'.

Just when she is able to go back, plot-kun just slap her over and over, poor nanahoshi

Kinda fun when the pieces of the puzzle continue to fall into place and I remember details from previous videos and the show that I can connect and add up. Great job explaining the pieces while keeping the big picture in mind!

The best part of Nanahoshi Gourmet chapters in Redundancy: (spoilers of course) Perugius reminds us of some of the food and other cultures developed by humans lost during the Laplace War since the Asura Kingdom and in the Light Novels, the Millis Kingdom were the only Kingdoms that survived the war. The reminder of the effects of war and genocide hits like a hammer in these chapters.

My favorite platonic relations Rudeus has ever. My favorite was him giving her letters to give to his family in the future when he's no longer around, one asking for understanding and forgiveness, and one for his family to help her if she ever has need of it.

Spoiler for Anime only fans. A friend actually pointed it out for me. At episode one there is background talk saying two students were missing after the accident. At episode two, we see a little glimpse of Nanahoshi arguing with her two male friends. We even hear a phrase from her. At episode 21, we hear Nanahoshi with the same voice. I was shocked to find this level of details the show writers have put in. It was not in the WN if I remember correctly.

The argument is definitely in the WN prologue. The two arguing (taller boy and Nanahoshi) each get a partial line ("---- That's why, you----" and "You're the one-----".) while the third one tries to stop the argument.

@@Rammsoldat I didn't catch the "Nanahoshi style" restaurant scene. I'm gonna assume it's added to the LN. It may have been in the WN, and I just plain missed it cuzz he thinks a LOT of Japanese things, though I tried to google most of them I'm sure I missed some.

I get a smile on my face every time you call it Truck-kun. It's such a staple of isekai at this point that referring to it in that way almost makes sense.

Great video, Natalie. Nanahoshi's part in Mushoku Tensei is truly an enigma. She has to suffer so much, and yet, thankfully, her existence is greatly improved by our pervy, "fat ass," trouble magnet 1st MC. I wanna protect Nanahoshi so much. I intensely look forward to Rifujin-sensei brings us! I just checked out all Orc Eroica that I could find in English, and, boy, that's a different sort of Rifujin.

Do you think you could make a video series where you walk through the whole plot of this manga/anime? That way you can put extra information in that Anime only viewers wouldn't pick up on? I prefer doing it this way, where people can kind of choose which spoilers they want (so if they want to know what happens to a character they like they can find out without having every event in the story and all the twists spoiled, iykwim).

I already suspected while watching ep 21 for the first time that Nanahoshi was an interestingly unique character. It's her name which is really uncommon in the world of MT. Maybe it is someone else like Rudeus who also got reincarnated. Remember in ep 1 when Rudeus got injured in that car crash, 2 other people mysteriously disappeared who were also involved in that accident without a trace of blood or something? She could be one of those possibly (I haven't read the LN or manga yet so I don't know).

The author is currently writing Ork Hero also called Ork Eroica.

Wow this is amazing. Just realized that the sequel will be much more eventful than redeus' story. Like wow, I have not seen anyone do that before. I thought redeus would be like the hero of the world or something and he's the chosen one. And after watching your videos. I was completely dumbfounded. This story just even became more incredible.

Spoiler for Mana teleportation incident. The Miko girl with time reversing powers got caught up with the first generation Dragon God's time looping magic construct casted in Orsted body. There was one chapter which entails the experience of the said Miko, There was a time demons conquered the country she was living at. There was a time when she was killed in civil war. There was a time she experimented on due to her miko ability. and many more. Times 200 The only thing that saved her was the boys smile and kindness. She fought time using her time reversing powers, again over and over(every loopl. Seeing him die and die again. Her hatred grew, she does it on every loop. Since it doesn't stop. Every time Orsted loops she also restarts as a child(5) a normal villager in a rural village, taken by the kingdom, forced to use her powers to summon. Her actions began to twist the fate of the world, that twist is what you've observed in the episode 7-8 the red dot in the sky(magic that summons nanahoshi) while an unknown soul traversed that crack in fate and resided on Zenith's unborn son which was supposed to die. The story of Rudy begins with that, changing the lives of people around him, Paul, Roxy, Sylphy, and Eris. The twist on fate became bigger and bigger because of that which caused the event of Mana teleportation disaster.

Oho! The grass was growing in Perugius' floating castle in the WN? Than that's something they changed for the LN. Kishirika liked the taste of tea made from the grass so she ordered every demon king to grow it and thus there's a whole bunch under old Kishirisu castle, the gang having to haul all that grass out back to the teleport circle is part of the reason why they get trapped by Atoffe.

In the WN, they didn't just get grass from the demon castle. They were given seeds and shoots, with instructions on how to grow the stuff. Being that Nanahoshi spends most of her time at Chaos Breaker, and needs the stuff daily, it only makes sense to keep the stuff on hand.

Why is it interesting? You're probably caught up in the fantasy. Nanhoshi is actually realistic in the sense that 99.9% of people from our worlds would want to come back.

Every time you upload I'm torn between being spoiled and getting to actually experience these scenes without knowing what happens. Hopefully they announce a second season after this one ends. By the way, how far would you say anime-onlies such as myself are through the story so far?

The anime is currently on volume 6. I think there are 25 or 26 light novels (people reading in English have to switch to the web novel after volume 14 because that's all that is translated so far - it's a similar thing to Re:Zero in that respect).

She has different rings that offer her some protection, where she can't use magic - magical items can often be used by people with low/no mana.

Even if she found someone to lone her mana (Sylphy for instance, maybe Perugius), she would have continued to fail her summoning projects. It was Rudeus' connection to various obscure points that made any of her successes possible. His arrival. Engagement to Sylphy. Buying a haunted house. Zanoba's zealotry to dolls. Cliff's dedication to curses. Perugius knowing of the Mad Dragon King.

@@NatalieXHunter That's not really what I meant, I short-handed a lot. Without Rudy dying first, Nanahoshi would have died instead. A Rudy with Nanahoshi personality. Now there's a paradox to work out. Anyhow... Without Rudy, the teleportation incident wouldn't have happened. Rudy wouldn't have had reason to go to the Shirone kingdom and make promises to Zanoba. Zanoba wouldn't have been sent to the Academy. The mobile doll wouldn't have been found. Without the mobile doll from the haunted house, and Zanoba's dedication to figuring it out, the concept of stacking circles would have taken longer to figure out. If Nanahoshi were in Rudy's place, would she even care about teleportation. Maybe, but the drive would likely have been weaker. Teleportation magic is forbidden, and she wouldn't have had Orsted backing her, nor Perugius teaching her. It's a mess of cards when you start thinking about the what-if's if not for Rudy. On the slapping hand, did Hitogami know about Nanahoshi? If he did, would he still send Rudy to the Academy?

I'd say it's totally possible that the "Nanahoshi style food" could be added retroactively. For example, if Rudeus meets Nanahoshi outside their encounter this season (I'm not trying to spoil, so I'm being vague" and we are shown a flashback of him eating in that restaurant. It could be like a moment that happened but was just off-screen. "Oh, I saw a menu item with Nanahoshi on it while eating with my Dad!" and it shows the menu and the chef bringing it over. Maybe even have Rudy ask about it. I can't remember the scene from the books, but just use however that encounter played out. It would be a bit lame to have something like that relegated to not being shown, but it would make sense. Since it is a minor event, even if they showed it this season.

Well, yes, they could easily do that, though the scene did have another important bit to it with the identity of the chef, which it wouldn't make sense to show that way. I think they might just reference it like you say, but it would just be to show he had heard Nanahoshi's name somewhere.

Anime only and I had a feeling she might be Japanese. I watched this video because I was curious about who she is but stopped half way through when I felt I learned enough. Excellent video, I only stopped as I didn't want to be spoilt further.

That's what I keep screaming when I read lots of Chinese Light Novel. MCs wants to go back to Earth and they were just factory workers or students who struggle to even find job. Not to mention there are Miko that can revert back time, so if she lives long enough, she will eventually find a way. "Magic is omnipotent, the magician is not". It's all about knowledge and imagination since we have seen so many things impossible in this world that can be possible through magic, including Time Stop, Time Travel. Even inscribe magic circle inside the body or soul transfer.

@@johnwong5317 from great power comes great responsibility. If i was a stupidly overpowered hero i wouldn't be able to just chill and enjoy life. I'd feel constant guilt about all the suffering i could prevent whit my uber cheats and i'd spend my entire life in the other world doing just that. I'd rather live a quiet life rather than shoukdering the lives of milion of people. And this is the best case scenario. Many people would become Light Yagami if given cheat powers. I suppose that if you are enought of a sociopath you can ignore your concience enought to chill despite being overpowered, but i doubt i could do that.

Well, most of the isekai series that have anime adaptations aren't even finished in the novels yet, so I think it has a strong chance, given the source material is there and Studio Bind seemed pretty committed to it.

I think his name is Akito. It isn't super clear, because both Akihito and Akito are possible pronunciations of 秋人.

Nanahoshi is a character I couldn’t get into, but I still felt bad for her as the story went on. In a way it’s respectable how she keeps trying to return where most people would give up.

She explains herself quite succinctly in a later volume. She can't wear touki, and she can't use magic; and while she doesn't age, she can get sick, alluding that she likely has a normal lifespan. It disgusts her how these people live; people die of infections because they don't properly clean wounds. She had a life, a good life; this world is just too weird for her. Think of it this way. I'm rather partial to wiping my ass with soft paper and flushing it away. I've shit in a bucket, and a pit, hung my ass over a log, and wiped with moss. Without a porcelain throne analogue, I'd be a little put out too. Fakku nano!!!

That girl in the Mask towards the end of Season 1, I felt like there was a reason why Nanahoshi saved Rudeus when he was about to get killed by her master. I can only imagine the fan fiction of Rudeus meeting someone who also came from Japan.

First, and most importantly, I Love your dress. Extremely beautiful design and compliments your model. Now, perhaps I missed it, but why does she wear a mask? Does Rudus ever actually see her face and does it make any difference?

Yes, Rudeus does get to see it. It's never stated why she wears a mask, but it is inferred that it's because she's Japanese. There's no Asians in this world.

Yes, as you can see from the pictures from the LN and manga in this video, she is often seen without her mask later in the story when she's with people who know about her. She probably wears it because her appearance stands out, and because she doesn't age, which people would find sus.

I think Nanahoshi will become a villain in the sequel. *Spoilery details bellow* When Akito shows up, Nanahoshi will want them to go home. Lara will want him to stay and help with whatever threat her visions from the future revealed. Akito is also really curious about this world (if the epilogue is to be believed) and I think he will be inclined to stick around, much to Nanahoshi's despair. Even if he wanted to go home, how are they going to power the complex mechanism of the teleportation circle? Rudeus... died of old age... Cliff and Zanoba as well. Her friends who saved her from herself and from disease while risking their lives, they are gone. They left behind these dolls, at first Nanahoshi only found her doppelgangers to be slightly discomforting, but useful tools. The automatons can handle public appearances and let her focus on her work. She scoffs when others treat them like people, but when Akito befriends Anne and treats her like a real person, Nanahoshi doesn't admit it, but she feels like she is being replaced. Her mental state is already fragile and the final straw is Akito becoming close to Lara. When she is at her lowest, Nanahoshi will be approached by someone. This person can help her. He has both the mana and intelligence to operate her teleportation circle and agrees to send her and Akito (by force if he isn't willing) back to their world. All she has to do is share her knowledge with him. Nanahoshi understands that this will lead to the death of a lot of people, but she never cared about this world so she accepts Demon God Laplace's offer.

Fuck, imagine if Hitogami managed to obtain time-travel ability. Rudeus should've been converted to pure mana after he died, but imagine if the time-travel forced him back to his past.

@@NatalieXHunter basically he is anime-only for Mushoku tensei, but noted how the first episode mentions how 2 other high-schoolers went missing, how the VA wasn't credited for Nanahoshi and a bunch of other things. so the info was indeed there, he just caught on to it :D

Rudeus said his mana went somewhere else. What if that summoned akihito on this new timeline? Damn, waking up 12 times a year seems more of a nightmare than a blissfull experience. Akihito maybe a bit perplexed if he sees nanahoshi be well adjusted, has friends and is much more mature than their last encounter which is just a juvenile lovers quarrel

I think it really depends on whether you consider him a pedophile. See, to me, a pedophile is someone who is exclusively or primarily attracted to children, which doesn't really fit with Rudeus. Rudeus is more someone who would probably just be straight if he had lived a normal life, but because he was just shut in all the time and never really mingled with people, he developed this kind of degenerate attitude where he kinda will find almost anything or anyone arousing at the start (he says in the series that in his past life he never cared about age or gender in his past life, and there are various other pints where he reflects on this). In his new life he does form relationships with people normally, and discovers that in those conditions, his preferences are adult women - he entertains the idea he might be gay or bi, when he's attracted to Fitts, but he kinda knows on some level that Fitts is actually Sylphy - and in this state of normal socialization where he has a chance to have relationships rather than just fantasize about weird stuff, he realizes he feels no attraction at all to people like his little sisters (he could have slept with Aisha, but he really didn't want to). So, it's to me, not so much the redemption of a pedophile, because he wouldn't have had those thoughts in his past life either if he had lead a normal life. It's more an example of just what kind of spiral of degeneracy he was on before, and how that changed in the new world as he lived a better life.

He was mostly a degenerate and at most a Lolicon and many degenerates fantasize but wouldn’t actually do all that stuff in real life. Also he has prior life memories but actual physique and maturity of a child I think. Although apparently past life he was kicked out for bating to his niece but that might have been changed. But there are a lot of degenerates that watch and do degenerate things I guess. And also pedos can only only be with kids and proper age individuals do nothing for them

He did do that in his past life, but when he thinks about that again in the (deleted) Redundancy chapter where he's thinking about why Aisha and Ars freaks him out so much because it reminds him of the shameful thing he did there, he does state that he wasn't specifically attracted to his niece, it was more like, he could put in a voyeur camera so he did. That doesn't make it less of a crime or less gross, but it does sort of hint at what I was saying that his underlying mentality was general degeneracy rather than specifically having an attraction to children, which is why it's a bit different to calling it redemption or even rehabilitation of a pedophile, iykwim.

No way I was correct, I made a few comments on the site I watch this anime on and I guessed because her name was so Japanese compared to every single name we know and I figured we'd see someone eventually who's like Rudy. But I'd never guess she was so close to Rudy technically in his past life

I think it would've been better if it was show that the Magic circle technique that Dragon-God Laplace used to create magic circles within Elinaise is eventually discovered by Cliff & then used by him to:- (1) Improve the Magic-Curse tools (2) Establish a new branch of Magic based on magic circles within Body Cliff uses his Internal magic circle technique to:- (1) Free Elinaise from her Curse & allow her to effectively increase her his Mana-reserves (2) Allow Rudeus to activate TOUKI & further improve his MP-reserves (3) Allow Zanoba to get control over his TOUKI & improve his overall MP reserves (4) Allow Roxy to get the ability for Telepathy & boost her MP-reserves. (Spoiled first carefully) Isn't that Nanahoshi Shizuka really Nana Nakagawa (know as Setsuna Yuki) from Love Live Nijigasaki High School Idol Club. The names (Two Nana and a Starlike meaning "Hoshi") and appearance (her character picture similarities) were lookalikes.

Best thing about Nanahoshi and Rudeus is that Nanahoshi sees rudeus as a father or big brother figure and not some lover.

Is her wish to go home a new kind of isekai protagonist? In the past this was actually the more common isekai protagonist but that was before the term isekai was used. To be honest, I am more surprised why not more isekai protagonists desperately want to go home. Admittedly though in most cases where the MC is of the type who would want to go home, it is often outrigtht said that is not possible.

@@icii0i40 No. Those pathogens of that time are very different from our current ones. Just as that an innoculation against one type of flue does not work against another and needs to be redone every year. That is even assuming they are more or less the same, because in RL small pox would be an example of a pathogen that is now extinct but existed 1000 years ago. Now, admittedly, due to my modern food having been a LOT better then at the time my overall health is a lot better then the average person in 1000 AD, so I probably have a decent chance to survive most of the diseases assuming I find some source of income and persons to take care of me (which would also be a big issue when dumped into a world without any safety net at all).

It's not that she's a new type of isekai character (even in some modern isekai like Log Horizon everyone wants to go home more or less), it's that she's a different type to Rudeus, and it's understandable in both cases why they see things the way they do, so them existing in the same story and working together makes you think about the isekai concept in a different way.

It sounds terrible, but I cant help Imagining the thing that informs her that the Time has come is "The Biggest Bloody Period of her life!" 🤣 As everything starts turning back on.

In that case, the mass teleportation was a summoning magic.... Huh?!

Well, I don't think anyone really forgets their native language, even if they don't speak it for years - it is probably the language they think in.

Well to be honest I never like rudeus but I like nanohoshi because she more relatable then most modern Isekai Characters.

No he doesn't. Their relationship starts more work-like towards sibling-like as described by Zanoba in his turning point monologue. (2nd Shirone Kingdom arc) 1st is related to Aisha and Lilia rescue.

No, he's a happily married man with a baby on the way before those two even become friends, prior to that, they were work colleagues. And nanahoshi was very standoffish, where as Rudy had a serious trauma from turning point 2 so he was only a reluctant colleague at first.

No. There are several well defined reasons why he keeps her at arms distance. 1 - He had erectile dysfunction when he re-met her. She wasn't interested in him, so there was no effort made to progressing intimacy. 2 - He remembers the scene of saving her from truck-kun. Remember, he thought the kids may have been in a lover's quarrel. 3 - She has some kind of relationship with Orsted. He really doesn't want to give reason to piss that guy off. 4 - She is too close to him in regards to their previous world. He's afraid of what she'll think about him when she eventually finds out. Which she eventually does. She doesn't say "Thank you for saving my life." She says "THAT FATASS?!" 5 - Sylphy is fine with just about anyone else, but has clearly stated that she doesn't wanna share Rudeus with Nanahoshi. She's kinda vague as to why, but it's inferred that it's because they speak their own language when together.

LOL that was kind of an accident (I don't even really know what Wendy looks like properly - we don't have Wendy's in Europe so I haven't seen a picture of her for years!).

Shizuka means silent and Nana means 7 and Hoshi means stars, thus silent seven stars. Spoilerish: Her body rejecting the world is very much like Subaru mana poisoning in re zero. Would be interesting if she became a little dark or twisted from the experience. It’s interesting how she’s contributed to the world still despite everything. I do think that incompatible bodies and whatever other issues could be solved somehow based on what other series have done. Also would be hilarious for her to be called a JK Baba in the future lol. For some reason I’m getting some Satella vibes from her in the future although that’s not due to an authority but more so body and experiences and maybe her love for her boyfriend. On a side note, curious about what power the last summoned person will have if any. If it’s another RBD or similar power and what their flaws would be. I’m assuming it’s going to be Akhihito in the sequel

Spoiler (What I kinda hope they do with her character) I hope that in the future, if the fight against Hitogami starts looking grim, Nanahoshi decides to help in whatever she can If she has a chance to help Akihito and her other friends, I hope she acts heroically and even becomes willing to fight If u know Blink from X men and how she fights, Nanahoshi could come up with something similar with clever use of her scrolls, if she had the magic crystals nessecary It'd be cool and show that she's changed, willing to put herself and her goals at risk for the sake of her others

I finished V14 recently and Poor Nanahoshi :( she has to go through so much to leave and she dosen't even have the luxury to trying staying in this world because she's slowly dying of mana poisoning. Also poor alternate-future-Rudy that guy had it rough and when Rudys said he'll burry him next to Paul because that's where he'd be the happiest, that shit went straight for my kokoro 😭. I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop ever since Orsted reacted so angrily to Mangods name and now that it finally did.... damn he played a long fucking con with Rudy. I guess he's a god so it's not that long for him, but still, he actually managed to butter up Rudy enough to execute his scheme. Also I didn't expect Rudy and Eris getting back together would be motivated by "you better fucking do it or certain doom awaits".

I think that turning point hit me the hardest. It answered so many mysteries and caused so many things to change in the alternate timeline that I think no other turning point does. I felt so many emotions at the same time. I felt sadness for Old Rudy's entire fate. Felt anger towards Hotogami, felt fear from how devastating he could be. Most importantly my head blew off with the reveal of Hitogami's final plan.

I have a question to ask about Why was she summoned ?

Someone in MT world wished for her dearest friend to not die. Nanahoshi and Rudeus summoning is a side-effect from that wish being granted.
