It's amazing. Was using it for stills and video for a pro shoot at the O2 Indigo on Friday. I doubled it up with the 17mm F1.8. The manual clutch is really useful. I haven't used it as a macro but am going to try it now so pausing the video......... I'm back, its bloody brilliant at macro, just shot a cactus flower, F2,8 ISO 200 shutter 1/800

Thanks for watching and it is not something that is mentioned about the lens, it's overlooked really 👍👍
great video (again!) - many thanks

Thank you very much for your nice feedback and for watching 👍
This may be sold in some kits with the pro-level bodies, but suggesting it's a Kit Lens is wrong as, frankly, there's nothing to upgrade to beyond this. This is a pro-level lens with a constant F2.8 throughout. The kit lenses in the Zuiko range are the plastic 14-42mm and 40-150mm commonly sold with the EM10 and Pen ranges. These too are exceptional products for their size and cost.

Love that 14-42mm. Real sleeper, though the build quality is subpar. That’s why I have multiple!-) and used one up already. Gem of a lens IMO.
thanks for making this video .. i have been using this lens with my om-5 & procapture for birds in flight in my garden because it's a small space. with 2.8 i can shoot early & late & (i'm in scotland) when the sky is constant 18% grey😂, tho f3-4.5 gives a wee bit more dof. yes BIF with a wide angle! 18-24mm at 70-100cm from the perch is my sweet spot to get pin sharp images..so MACRO-BIF , this lens does it all, it's a keeper

Thanks a lot indeed for watching and for your comment, and I can imagine the great shots you must be getting with your set-up and even in the grey lands of the north - cheers 👍👍
Great video, I have been in and out of Olympus a couple times. I have the urge to to get back in, but don’t want to spend the price o the OM1. Well done

Thanks very much for watching, and I can imagine and cost of moving camera systems is a bit much, and it's hard enough affording the gear in the first place. Thanks again. 👍👍

You’ve just convinced me that I need to use my 12-40mm to get some macro shots. TY And I like your use of ‘superpower’ to call out the near-macro capability of this lens. And I am hoping that this approach to macro will help me get ‘into macro’ because I always find it very daunting and challenging to execute a good macro shot. Perhaps this near-macro lens will be more accessible. TY for your insight. ❤
I use mine with the Raynox 250 clip on magnification lens and it gives almost similar results to my $1400 OM 90mm.

I know you have this lens, the 40-150/4.0-5.6, 45/1.8 and 17/1.8...any other M43 lenses?

@@MyPhotoJourneyI have the same lenses although I sold off the 14-42 and picked up the 60/2.8 and 75/1.8.
Thank you. Great lens! Please would you allow your photos and camera settings to appear on the screen for a bit longer. 1 second is not enough time to read a detailed caption.

Thanks a lot for watching, yeah will do, I will give them a bit longer. 👍👍
Have you considered making your videos at 24p? The reason I ask is that I watch on my TV with a Roku. I like to watch at fast speed and when I do your video drops down to 360p quality 😢. So I usually end up not watching. I notice that 24p video plays just fine at faster speeds. Thanks.

@@MyPhotoJourney Thank you!
The Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 is a pro lens. Its so affordable now on the used market I guess you can call it a kit lens. The first version of the Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 is also affordable now. But I understand calling it a kit lens when you buy it with a camera at the same time.

I love my 12-40, its a real pro lense and not a kit lense at all olympus pro lenses are the best you can get for mft

Thanks a lot for watching and for your comment. Maybe I wasn't being generous enough calling it a kit lens, and I wasn't trying to be controversial. Cheers 👍
This lens is as close to perfect as you can get. Through all formats (full frame - m43 etc)

The 12-40 2.8 Pro is not a kit lens, in fact when I bought my original EM-10 I declined the two kit lenses and opted to get the 12-40 at an additional cost instead. Why do you choose to mislead people?

Thanks very much for watching and for your comment. I have just mentioned how I see it, and when I have looked to buy my em1 that case was being offered as part of a kit 👍

@@MyPhotoJourney Nonsense. It may have been offered as a package with the camera, but it has never been of a quality that would be described in common parlance as a kit lens.

This is a pro kit lens setup. package for Em1 or Om1 bodies. Just like the 12-45mmf4 is a kit pro setup for Om5.
