Easy Bird Photography with the OM Systems OM-1 and the ED 100-400mm IS Zoom: the EzPnS method.

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The EzPnS (Easy Point and Shoot) method uses the camera’s automation to produce consistently well exposed and well focused images of birds and wildlife, so that you can take care of what only you can do…seeing and framing the wonders of nature. The OM Systems OM-1 with its sophisticated automation, and a range of great lenses, including the ED 100-400mm zoom, is the idea camera for the EzPnS method. In this video I will show you how to set up the automated features to get the best shots of birds. Future videos will cover Birds in Flight and Wildlife, as well as “Field Craft”…the actual experience of using the OM-1 and ED 100-400mm zoom in the field.

Very detailed instructions at a comfortable pace. The use of menu and chapters make it easy to review while you make the settings on your camera.

Very Interesting - is there a similar video when setting up an OMD EM1 miii for bird photography? the menu seems a little different.

You can probably figure it out, as the principals are the same…but I don’t have that camera.

Is there some library where presets can be found? I noted there are such attempts for older EM1's It would be quite nice to circumvent this manual settings ( and saving ) and have a local library via PC/Mac and of course your phone.

It just indicates where the camera is focused. You can turn it off in the Auto Focus menus. :)

Steve, I have been using the Olympus OM-1 Camera with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm Lens for just a few weeks now. I noticed that I am not able to get a good focus on sitting birds in a distance, as with the Nikon Coolpix P900. I am wondering if you know the approximate distance in yards that the OM-1 Camera with the 100-400mm Lens should be able to focus on to get a good capture. Thank you, Jan

I have had no issues getting good focus on birds at a distance. I am using Bird Subject Detection, and generally the cross focus target area. If the bird is very far, I am not going to take a photo most times as I know the results will be unsatisfactory due to air motion and pollution between me and the bird…but If I do try, I would switch to the smallest focus target area to be sure focus in on the bird. In my experience the camera will detect a bird that only fills the small focus target area, even with the camera set to cross. Not the spot focus, but the small area.

@@StephenIngraham Yes, I use the Bird Subject Detection but wasn't using the cross focus target area or being sure to use small focus. I appreciate and will follow your advice. Thank you very much! 👍

U can skip the first 27min. Nobody buys a $5000 setup without knowing how to get to the menu. Subject detection, back button focus, saf caf, that's all u need to know.
