The Legendary OVW 4

Ойын-сауық

The breeding ground for WWE talent used to be Ohio Valley Wrestling. Better known as OVW this developmental for WWE churned out some of the best talents that wrestling fans saw in the early 2000s. Names like Batista, John Cena, Randy Orton, and Brock Lesnar. These 4 superstars defined an entire generation of wrestling fans. What made it so amazing was WWE actually had direction for each of these characters. John Cena ultimately became the king of the class, but 2002 was a defining year for WWE. It was during a time where Stone Cold and The Rock's time was dwindling down, and WWE was left without a top-tier star. Vince Mcmahon took it upon himself to make these 4 talents stand out above the rest. In this video, I present to you the legendary OV4.

I believe these 4, along with Edge to an extent, were the crucial ones WWE needed to fill the massive void that was in losing BOTH Rock and Austin, and in short order too. what a truly talented quartet of performers the OVW 4 were. John Cena, Dave Batista, Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton have all etched their names into the WWE history books. All four men had unbelievable careers. They may not all have gotten off to a smooth start but they all eventually found their niche and became megastars. If WWE could have kept finding and developing talent like those four then the WWE product would have been much more entertaining and watchable over the last two decades. I remember being in awe of Lesnar initially as he ploughed through the WWE roster. I also was a fan of Cena’s from the moment he debuted and challenged Kurt Angle. I did go off him when he adopted the rapper gimmick and then received a never ending mega-push, but I eventually came to like and respect him for his talent and work ethic. It took me a little longer to buy into Batista and Orton but both developed into credible superstars and there’s no denying either man’s legacy. All four men had fantastic careers and all four men deserve every ounce of the success that they worked so hard to achieve.

My favorite member is Orton. Growing up, I used to be enthralled by his mannerisms and his facial expressions. He just told a story with his eyes. And also his slickness in the ring. I was a teenager who didn't know that wrestling is a work, but even I could tell that Orton was so good, it seemed like he wasn't even trying. Even now the man is brilliant in that ring. His quickness when he strikes the RKO is something else. His consistency and his longevity is rewarding to a fan like me who's been following wwe since 2004 (although I was a bit of a fan even in the Lesnar years). 23:34 Randy Orton easily is the work horse. :) Made Cena that famous he is, just remember the feud involving cenas dad... the amount of hate he took. or built it further vs hunter, only to give the buzz to cena again. Cena deserves everything, for his behaviour towards the weak, he was awesome there, if have to give it to him! But I think Randy deserve the recognition of being the best out of them. Plus he is the only one left at weekly top level and still performs like its 2007 man. :) The Legendkiller has become one of the biggest legends in the buisness himself! He doesnt get enough credit imo. As heel he was not only gold, this guy was platinum. The look, the hair cut, the tounge movement, the moments of shaking, the adding of the slidering... this guy was the shit in the ring and a loved his calm yet sadistic promos... it was so fresh to me. Awesome. :) Double HoF incoming, if WWE does it right he goes triple! Himself, Evolution and Rated-RKO. :) Edge should get the triple HoF honors as well, but this is a subjetive opinion. But both should at least get double for E&C and Evolution. Randy is my all time second fav, right behind a masked big red machine. :D

My favourite has to be Johncena. As a teenager I grew up watching him. This man is a diamond on the mic. Once I realised that he had a gimmick in the past named basic thuganomics and I started watching those raps, I just couldn't believe my eyes. The way he's transitioned from that to PG is nuts. And of course 17x has to happen..... But as I started to grow into an adult, I started to realise the underappreciated genius of Brock Lesnar. The kind of legitimacy and realistic nature he brought to WWE matches is something no one can do. Whenever Brock was in a match I just had to watch it. Of course there are many superstars who gave us amazing matches but If we wanna talk about unforgettable legendary matches Brock Lesnar has to be in them. Arguably a GOAT!

No greater set of 4 wrestlers ever. 44 world championships, 13 Wrestlemanias main-evented, all had hall of fame level careers by 2008. Just ridiculous. Over 60 total championship reigns too. And even more impressive considering Batista only was healthy for 5.5 years and Lesnar wrestled 8 of his years extremely part-time. If they had stayed full time their full careers it's possible that we're looking at a set of 50+ world championship reigns. Absolutely incredible

All 4 of these men basically were the face of the Ruthless Aggression Era. Yeah, Brock Lesnar left but still, when you think about that era, you’ll think about this monster run throughout 2002-2003. Randy Orton on the other hand literally evolved overtime. They set their eyes on him and it paid off greatly. Look where he’s at now? He’s considered to be one of the greatest wrestlers of this and the last generation. Batista had his ups and downs due to his departures, but his best work would be in the 2000’s without a doubt. Now, John Cena, he’s by-far the most accomplished out of all of them. Maybe that’s debatable because Brock Lesnar is pretty successful too but Cena has done so much. I’m just glad that I grew up watching most of these men. They shaped my childhood in a way.

What those guys have in common?! The Physic, those guys can wrestle great matches and doesn't need to Do 450 or 630 splashes. Those guys are Sport Entertainers, not Pro Wrestlers, and we all know that Sport Entertainers draw more. Cm Punk and DB for example. Yes they were so over, but were they known outside of IWC? No, they weren't. While Cena, Brock, Orton and Batista are known by a lot of non Wrestling fanbase. Some people will think this is a shot to Punk or Db or Others but this is the truth. Think about, can u see Adam Cole beat Brock Lesnar in a Steel Cage match??

Great video. You look at things the same exact way I do. Wwe needs to go back to being themselves, and not try to please the internet. The internet will always complain about the current era, until that era is passed and nostalgia kicks in. Truly wonderful video.

Randy is the WWE guy out of these 4 like he said. Dependable, reliable, great in the ring and on the mic/in storylines, and will go until he physically can’t. One of the few veterans we have that is consistent, so cherish him while he’s here. Also Randy vs Brock Lesnar soon, please WWE, a definitive answer is better than nothing.

Glad I am found someone who is looking at possible positive outcome for wrestling rather than just want indie stars wrestling 5stars on PPVs. Because we all know pro- wrestling is weekly progression of stories and I think big poster boys having natural charisma and look are the way to keep the business alive. As wrestling needs poster boys outside ring too who will keep money coming with great ring workers like Michels, Rey Mysterio, Jericho, AJ Styles and Jhonny Gargano because at the end you need someone bigger than pro wrestling itself to draw people on shows where we will see 5 star matches & someone who keeps business alive. Someone like Hogan, Austin, Rock or Cena which are names bigger than wrestling itself. Hopefully someone like Peter Burdox would be the next guy.

I highly recommend watching OVW bideos from the 2000's; WWE had SO many people down there; really too many toname. They had a weekly TV program and made money. Danny Davis and Jim COrnette knew what they were doing.

Just realized.. Outside OVW, Brock and Bastia never had a match. Brock faced Cena and Orton (in there respective matches) Brock last faced Orton at SummerSlam 2016 along with Cena at Rumble 2015 (with Seth) for the Title Cena and Orton last faced each other on 7th February edition of Smackdown in 2017
